Work Text:

In the world of The Simpsons there are many places. Filled with good and bad people. Every person has their own story. This is the story of a young adult from the town of Springfield Jari Kennish.

"You might be wondering who I am now right? I'm Jari..."

Just 3 years ago towards the end of 2020, my buddy Travis and I were car mechanics at Quality auto repair & body shop. I said "don't worry. Travis and I will take care of it." to a customer, Vik, who brought his Rolls-Royce in for a routine checkup.

To no surprise, we finished the checkup within a half hour.

To no surprise, the only thing I had to fix was a small scratch. When Vik asked how much, I replied "no charge." he patted my back, thanking me.

I was questioned by Travis at the repair area of Quality ARBS the next day.

The latter called Vik "not" being charged weirdly. I said "but he's a fucking regular isn't he?" excuses were made about certain customers needing special treatment so they would keep coming back.

Bad excuses which Travis didn't buy for one second.

Bad excuses I made to myself to force Vik to keep returning to the shop. I replied "just let me see what's going on with it." when Vik returned with complaints.

Complaints about not being able to go on on road trip to visit his family.

Complaints about the GPS refusing to navigate anywhere else but Quality. I questioned Vik about the multiple packets of air fresheners from the rearview mirror.

When I was finished with the repairs, Vik goes into detail about the air freshener collection.

When Vik returned to the Quality for a tire repair a few days later, he expressed his wish to take the car to another mechanic. I said "please don't do that." but he called out my incompetence.

But at this point, he was more than convinced about me "not knowing" how to work on a car.

But suddenly, I cut his car's brake lines before Vik angrily sped off in his vehicle. I couldn't have him or his "air fresheners" going anywhere else.

Travis revealed Vik's vehicle crashed into a stack of tires nearby as he sat with me in the break room of Quality.

I replied "I wanted to be friends with him so bad that I lost who I was." when he confronted me about my "odd behavior" towards Vik lately.

When Travis and Lexi, the auto repair shop owner, gave me two options a week later, I took the first one.

When the two options were therapy or being turned in to the police, it was a no-brainer. I would eventually return to Quality as a better mechanic.

Sarah, my therapist felt I was ready.

More grounded and no longer obsessed about others.

More focused to the point that Lexi dubbed me the repair shop's superstar. I thanked her for still allowing me to work there in the garage area of Quality.

Lexi said she saw me as a good person.

As a good person who "simply" did something bad.

As a commotion broke out in front of Quality, I followed Lexi out to see what was going on. Vik "who heard I was still working at Quality" was the one causing the disturbance.

And I tried to tell him that I had changed.

Vik said "i don't fucking believe that for a second." while shaking his head in disgust.

And when he called me a "psycho" who needed to stay locked up, I replied "that's understandable." Vik still hating me was completely understandable.

Months later I was surprised to see Quality auto repair & body shop had been featured in a famous car magazine.
