Work Text:
Depth of void, depth of emptiness
How does it feel to feel nothing?
How does it feel to fall at the depth of void, depth of emptiness without knowing it?
How does it feel to slowly lose the grip of the present? As darkness took over you in a blink of an eye?
Hinata went over to Kenma's apartment to spend time with his boyfriend but it seems like fate had other plans for them. It's been weeks since they last saw each other. Hinata's last memory of him was still vivid.
Kenma kissed Hinata's corner of mouth and smiled.
“Some burns like that don't last too long, Sho. Let's get it over to the doctor to see. You'll be fine.” Shoyo smiled at the memory.
He accidentally burned his hand from the boiling water at his kitchen and Kenma immediately went to his place not minding off the half an hour driveway.
It wasn't the fondest way to be showered with care since he had a burned hand but his boyfriend's presence makes him feel fuzzy and sweet. His love burns for Kenma and if that means forever, he's willing to go that far.
He smiled as he went out of the cab he'd taken to go to Kenma's apartment. The familiar colors of his house appear to his sight. Hinata beams in delight as he holds over a bouquet of red carnations for Kenma as an act of appreciation.
He knocked two, three, and so on until someone finally opened the door. A very.. tired looking Kenma, dressed in his own product which is a black Bouncing Ball hoodie.
“Kenma!” Hinata beamed at his boyfriend whose eyes were wide. He put his arms around his boyfriend and tried to kiss him but Kenma pulled away quickly. His face scrunched distortion.
“Shoyo.. what are you doing here?” Kenma's voice was hoarse and quiet, but something seemed off that bugged Hinata's mind to no end.
“Visiting you! What else? It's been awhile too..” Kenma nodded, while Hinata went inside. Kenma was looking.. pissed as ever as he went through his computer.
Hinata didn't pay any attention to it and looked around the situation of Kenma's house: Well, it's– to say atleast; a fucking disgusting and messy one.
“Kenma, how did your apartment go from clean to this?” Hinata's voice lies with curiosity but Kenma's face darkened.
“Are you here to scold me about it?” Kenma's tone was harsh and that caught off guard Hinata but he smiled at the latter whose head had it turned to him.
Kenma's eyes glinted with a little bit of light as he saw Hinata walk in with a handful of plates of food, what a good delight.
“Here,” Hinata's smile was happy, he had been cleaning Kenma's apartment and hadn't received anything of certain affection and appreciation. He placed the juice, apple flavored, which is Kenma's favorite.
Kenma only nodded but he had his face painted with furrowed eyebrows and whatnot softening as he saw Hinata walk over inside but that faded with an immediate twist done to his stomach and feelings.
As Hinata place it to his table, Kenma pushed aside his keyboard and mouse to eat but–
A huge splash of liquid burst into Kenma's lap and Hinata had his eyes wide open.
“Kenma–” He started.
“See! This is why I haven't called you over! You do me no good Shoyo!” Kenma stared in disbelief.
He can't take back what he said. Everything that bothers him until now. The high demand of attention to his company: replies to emails and sponsorships; and lack of sleep are taking a toll on him.
Hinata's expression fell. His eyes had a hint of pain and guilt.
“Sho, get out.”
“What?” But even before Hinata could speak one more thing, Kenma stood up and left him blank.
Kenma went back to his room, he found everything cleaned up, luckily, his gadgets and device are still alive and active. He opened his phone to pop a playlist but was met with Hinata's face instead as his wallpaper and a message.
[6:46PM]
Sho:
Kenmaa
I went out for now!
Come to me once you feel a little bit better then we could talk about it ^^ ❤
He didn't pay it any mind. The feeling of listening no longer in his mind and the more Kenma stared to nothingness. The more he falls into a depth of void: emptiness.
He wants to feel something but he couldn't.
“Both of you fought and the first thing you do is fucking call me, ask me if I'm busy– seriously?” Hinata smiled but it didn't reach his eyes as it usually does.
“Sorry–”
“No. Don't say sorry.. just come over and bring snacks over.” Hinata nodded as if the blonde could actually see it.
“Okay..”
Tsukishima eyed his phone in worry after Hinata called. Silently waiting for Hinata to come over.
A few minutes of battling with himself on what to say which he's never done by the way.
“Hey..”
“Sho..” Tsukishima started. Staring at Hinata whose eyes glisten.
“Kei.. hey,”
“Come in,” The tangerine haired nodded and made his way inside.
“Want a beer?” Hinata wants to politely decline. He felt vulnerable with his state right now. He's lying down on the couch inside Tsukishima and Kuroo's apartment.
Crying, his eyes are red rimmed from all of it, his voice is hoarse from talking and ranting about Kenma, his state is way too vulnerable for Tsukishima which he doesn't like. Hinata knew it but maybe he missed a step or two because Tsukishima, inside the living room with him, staring at him, may have gone softer as they grew older.
“Yes please,” Tsukishima sighed but went to get up from the floor where he's been sitting. Trying to comfort Hinata whose huddled up in a blanket and fucking taking away all his tissues stocked inside their storage room.
“Here..” Tsukishima didn't know what to do or say, both of them were sitting in the seats, the alcohol in front of them at the countertop.
“Sho, you know Kenma loves you right?” He didn't know why he said that. But Hinata nodded at it.
“Hey Kei! Oh– what a surprise.. a lovely one at that, what brings you here chibi-chan?” Tsukishima stood up and greeted Kuroo who was in shock but still smiled.
Tsukishima brought his hands down to Kuroo's waist and kissed his cheek.
“Evening Tetsu, I'm sorry I forgot to text you about Shoyo coming over.. he's–” Kuroo only nodded, seeing Hinata's state he knows he's not in the right position yet to ask.
“Hi Kuroo-san, I apologize for the intrusion.” Kuroo brushed the shorter's greeting off. He's now dressed in a shirt and sweatpants, dressing in a suit every time is tiring sometimes.
“You're fine Chibi, what happened though?” Volleyball? No. He wouldn't cry over one.
“I and Kenma fought.. he said some words..” Now that brought Kuroo's attention to the brim of Hinata's story.
Hinata doesn't exaggerate. Kuroo is very aware of that while for Kenma, of course he doesn't too and Kuroo knows Kenma's attitude way too much.
“I–” Kuroo got cut off by the blonde who watched both Kuroo and Hinata inside the kitchen.
“Let's drink.”
Two hours later and the two are a mess. An utter mess. One bottle of tequila which Kuroo bought somewhere from around the country he traveled to from his last work trip: Four cans of beer later and here they are.
Shoyo said words that were incoherent but enough to understand and damn, it hit deep. Kuroo feels bad.
“Kenma doesn't love me anymore.” It was a faint declaration but Kei was hugging Shoyo before he knew it.
“I'm too drunk but Kenma loves you, you dumbass. King's right, you're a boke." Kei said, his words were slurred.
“I love him, like you get me? He makes me happy, Sho,” Kuroo smiles in love as he hears Tsukishima say that. He walked in the living room and oh boy, he shouldn't have. Hinata's face is pressed on their glass table. A drunk mess, same with his heart.
“Kei.. love? Wanna go to bed?” Tsukishima's head turned.
“Yeah wait– Sho!” Hinata hummed and Kuroo wanted to film this. Tsukishima's words slurred over as he walked to Kuroo and their bathroom to throw up.
“Hinata..? I'll call Kenma okay?”
The tangerine just moved, Kuroo took it as a sign of okay and proceeded to call Kenma.
[10:39PM] On Call
Kuroo:
Kenma
[10:39PM] On Call
Kenma:
I was about to stream Kuro
[10:40PM] On Call
Kuroo:
Okay I know but can you pick Chibi up from here? He went–
Kuroo didn't even get to finish his words before Kenma pressed the end call button.
He stared at his phone in a matter of seconds before Kenma messaged him.
[10:42PM]
Kenma:
He left here on his own earlier
Kuroo sighed as he battled with himself internally. He knew how stubborn Kenma could be. He didn't want to let the tangerine haired to go home by himself so he figured on letting Hinata stay–
“Kuroo-san.. I'll take my leave.” Kuroo was surprised. Hinata's face is damp with tears. His hands held out his phone, wallet, and a wipes for his face. His skin is flushed with a red tint from drinking alcohol.
“Chibi–”
“I– I'm sober.. I was sobering up when I had my face at the table,“ Hinata said sheepishly. Kuroo doesn't want to believe this guy in front of him. Kuroo made a mistake of not believing Oikawa that Hinata can handle his alcohol well.
“I– are you sure?” He asked out of hesitancy but the shorter one in front of him only nodded and muttered a thank you to the guy.
“I'll text you Kuroo-san, thank you again.”
Hinata walked down the sidewalk, his mind still hazy. Wondering how, what, and why? The cars driving, the other people walking, and the buildings that shine with lights in and out all faded into the background as he thought of the immaculate beauty of someone.
His hair is two toned. Black mixed with blonde color. His eyes are the corresponding color of his hair somehow. His face is planted with a calm expression. His smile lights up Hinata's whole world always but how come he's the reason for its darkness too?
