Work Text:
It was late at night when Ichie woke up. Her head was still fuzzy from sleep and her eyes hadn’t quite adjusted to being open. She lifted her head up off its very comfortable pillow. Something under her shifted. She looked down.
Oh! It was Rui!
Ichie settled back down on top of her, nuzzling into Rui’s neck. Her feline instincts urged her to get her scent all over her girlfriend. Who was she to refuse?
Rui was big and warm and so comfortable to lay on. Ichie couldn’t help herself from snuggling underneath her chin and going back to sleep with Rui’s arms snug around her waist.
In another room, the lid for Fumi’s coffin lay forgotten on the floor. Yuyuko had wiggled her way in. One or more of her limbs would probably be sore the next day due to her and Fumi being a complete tangle. If either of them were awake, it would be near impossible to get up.
Thankfully, they both slept quite soundly. Fumi didn’t sleep as well on a bed, but she sometimes made sacrifices to sleep with her girlfriends. It was only fair that they meet her halfway sometimes. At least, that’s what Yuyuko thought. Besides, Fumi’s coffin was surprisingly comfortable. Plush interior lining did the job just fine as long as you didn’t mind not being able to stretch out.
Tamao absentmindedly stroked Yuyuko’s hair. It was the night of a full moon and they were in a forest. Somewhere, Rui and Ichie were off playing while Fumi chased after them. A howl echoed through the trees.
Yuyuko lay with her head in Tamao’s lap, struggling not to fall asleep. She fought to keep her eyes open.
“It’s okay,” Tamao said softly, fiddling with soft peach colored hair. “You can go to sleep.”
Yuyuko finally gave in. “Wake me up when they get back.”
Tamao agreed.
When Yuyuko woke up again, though, she was already in bed. Tamao was pressed up against her back, holding her from behind.
Ichie let out a sigh. Her head felt fuzzy and warm. Had her body always been so hard to move?
Fumi lapped at the puncture wound on her shoulder. They lay on their sides, with Ichie sinking into the bed more and more by the minute.
“I thought you vampires went for the neck,” Ichie mumbled sleepily.
Fumi pressed a kiss to the bite. “There’s too many arteries there. It’s safer to bite somewhere else.”
With dinner over, Fumi pulled her a bit closer. Ichie loved how all her girlfriends smelled. Just their scent was comforting. Combine that with Fumi’s cool skin against hers and it was enough to have Ichie falling asleep.
Sometimes, Fumi worried about the whole “immortal vampire” thing. The thought of watching everyone she loved grow old and die was enough for her to want to rip her unbeating heart out. Whenever she found herself worrying, Tamao was always there to help.
“It’s alright,” Tamao said gently, holding Fumi while she sobbed into her chest. “I’ll be right there with you.”
Having Tamao by Fumi’s side for eternity was a small comfort. Being held while she cried herself to sleep was all she really needed for now.
Maybe it was that they were the same age or maybe it was the fact that Rui was Yuyuko's first crush, but Yuyuko always felt closest to Rui. They were on the couch with movie credits rolling on the TV screen. The lights were off, and Rui had fallen asleep about twenty minutes ago. She had one arm under her head and one slung around Yuyuko’s midsection.
Rui was the perfect height to be a big spoon, and everyone took full advantage of this—Yuyuko included of course.
With a wave of her hand, Yuyuko turned the TV off. Kind of a dumb thing to use magic for, but if it kept her from having to get up out of Rui’s embrace, it was definitely worth it.
Ichie melted at the feeling of fingers scratching behind her ears. She let out a purr and buried her face into Tamao’s shoulder.
Tamao chuckled. “Such a cute kitty.”
Nails scratched down the back of her neck and down to under her shoulder blades where Ichie always had a hard time reaching. She purred louder.
“Sleepy kitty.”
Ichie flicked an ear toward her. She was half transformed. Which essentially just meant ears and a tail. A tail that Tamao had just started stroking. If Ichie fell asleep, really who could blame her?
Rui held a cold water bottle against her forehead. A heat wave was rolling through, and as someone who already had a high internal body temperature, she was suffering the worst. She perked up at the sound of the door opening. Rui turned to see Fumi at the front door, taking her shoes off. Despite coming in from a hot day, Fumi didn’t have a single drop of sweat on her.
Rui pulled her into a hug, pressing their cheeks together. She let out a satisfied sigh at the cool feeling.
“I guess it is a little warm out today,” Fumi chuckled.
They shuffled over to the couch. Rui lay on top of her with Fumi’s cool skin providing a bit of relief from the heat. Fumi slipped a hand up the back of her shirt while the other settled on the back of Rui’s neck. Rui sighed in relief.
Yuyuko stepped into the living room. It was late afternoon now, and with everyone off doing their own thing, a quiet peacefulness filled the house. On the couch, Ichie lay curled up in a blanket. Yuyuko felt a little miffed at not being invited to take a nap.
No matter, she could easily fix this.
Yuyuko squeezed onto the couch with Ichie, snuggling close to her. Ichie sighed happily and leaned into the contact.
