While David was talking to the driver, Crutchie had pulled himself up onto the back of the trolley car. His left foot was on the bumper, but his right foot skittered against the paint, trying to find purchase. He was going to fall. Without thinking, David jumped down off the curb and sprinted after the trolley as it began to pick up speed."
