Work Text:

Seungkwan has two boyfriends.

His first boyfriend is Vernon. He’d met Vernon on a dating app, they went out a few times, Seungkwan fell hard and fast and asked Vernon to be his boyfriend after their fourth date. Easy as that.

And then, three months into the relationship, after they’d exchanged ‘I love you’s and were starting to get comfortable talking about their future, Seungkwan’s best friend Chan had confessed while drunk that he had feelings for him for years.

Seungkwan’s mind was sent spinning. Not only because he never expected Chan to confess to something like that, but also because it meant that the crush on Chan that Seungkwan had nurtured in the far reaches of his mind didn’t feel so misguided anymore.

For the sake of transparency and honesty, he’d told Vernon what Chan had said and had also told him about his little crush on Chan, one that he intended to never act on.

“Do you want to date him?” Vernon had asked.

“No! I’m dating you,” Seungkwan had said.

“Forget about me. Do you want to date him?”

“If I wasn’t already with you, then yeah. I suppose.”

“Then do it,” Vernon said.

Tears sprung to Seungkwan’s eyes. “Are you breaking up with me? I promise I haven’t cheated on you, and I’m not going to cheat on you!”

“No!” Vernon had said as he took Seungkwan’s face into his hands. “I want you to be happy, and it seems like dating Chan would make you happy. So, if you want to make him your boyfriend, then do it. You can date both of us.”

“What?” Seungkwan was stunned.

“Only if he’s cool with it, of course, but you should just date both of us. If that’s what you want.”

“That’s a bit greedy though, isn't it?”

“No, it’s not. You are the most beautiful, caring, funny person ever, so of course more than one person is going to have feelings for you. You should take advantage. You shouldn’t be punished for being amazing.”

Seungkwan had giggled. “Okay, I’ll ask him.” He kissed Vernon on the cheek. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

So, Seungkwan had proposed the idea to Chan. Chan was confused at first, but that was to be expected, Chan was always confused. But he’d agreed once he’d gotten his head around the concept.

Chan and Seungkwan went on a date, and then another and another, and everything was going perfectly, so Seungkwan officially asked Chan to be his boyfriend. And Chan had said yes.

So, yeah. Seungkwan has two boyfriends, both of whom he loves very much.

---

Four months into Seungkwan and Chan’s relationship, Seungkwan starts to feel like something’s missing.

Dating Chan is great. He’s attentive and loving and being with him is just fun. He brings a bit of joy into Seungkwan’s life every single day. Seungkwan realises that Chan is someone he wants to spend a very long time with, ideally, the rest of his life.

He’d already had this realisation with Vernon. Vernon is supportive and kind, and always brings Seungkwan back down to earth when he needs it.

So now, Seungkwan is faced with the situation where he has two people in his life he loves desperately, and yet, they barely know each other.

Being Seungkwan, he endeavours to fix this.

“Channie,” Seungkwan says when they’re lying on his couch one evening. “Would you ever consider going out to dinner, you, me and Vernon?”

“Oh.” Chan seems shocked by the question. “Yeah, I suppose so. Why?”

“It kind of makes me sad that you guys barely know each other. You’re the two most special people in my life, I don’t want you to be strangers to each other.”

Chan hums in thought. “If he’s special to you then I’m sure he’s a great person. I’d love to meet him.”

“Thank you,” Seungkwan says, and he leans over to give Chan a kiss. “I’ll ask him and then let you know the details.”

Vernon is easy to persuade, Seungkwan knew he would be. Vernon always goes along with what Seungkwan wants to do.

So Seungkwan books a table at a restaurant he knows that both Vernon and Chan like, and then he waits for the day to come, getting progressively more and more nervous. He doesn’t even know why. He knows that Vernon and Chan will get on, but this feels so monumental somehow.

---

When he shows up to the restaurant with Vernon on Friday evening, Chan is already there. Seungkwan smiles at him fondly as they walk towards his table; Chan is punctual to a fault, especially so when it’s something important. A little swell of affection settles itself in Seungkwan’s chest.

“Hey, Channie,” he says, and he leans over to kiss him. Seungkwan had agonised over whether or not to kiss his boyfriends in front of the other, but he ultimately came to the decision that he would. It’s better to start doing it right from the beginning rather than awkwardly starting a month into them knowing each other.

“Hey, Kwan,” Chan says. And then he stands up and turns to Vernon. “You must be Vernon, it’s so nice to meet you.”

“It’s really nice to meet you too,” Vernon says. And Seungkwan sees both of his boyfriends standing in the same room, next to each other, for the first time. The swell of affection that was bubbling in his heart before grows even bigger.

Seungkwan loves them both so much. More than he could ever describe. He’s so glad that he arranged this dinner.

“Let’s sit,” he says.

“Have you decided what you want yet?” Seungkwan asks Chan.

“Of course, I have. I love this place!”

“I do too,” Vernon says, smiling at Chan.

“Well, you have good taste then. But I already knew that since you’re dating Kwan.”

Vernon starts laughing, a big loud laugh that he reserves for times that he’s truly amused by something.

Chan looks incredibly proud of himself for getting such a good reaction and he has a cute, smug smile on his face. Seungkwan loves them both so much. He has a feeling this is going to go well.

For the rest of the dinner Seungkwan tries to talk as little as possible. He wants this to be a time for Chan and Vernon to connect and develop a friendship on each other’s terms and based on their own interests and similarities rather than their relationship to him.

And it works out. They talk non-stop, and about things that Seungkwan isn't able to contribute to. He should feel left out by this, but it’s nice to see them bond over things that Seungkwan wouldn’t be able to talk to them about. It shows Seungkwan that doing this was worthwhile.

But as the evening goes longer, he watches the way Chan’s eyes linger on Vernon’s face and how the tips of his ears go pink when Vernon smiles at him. And he notices how Vernon laughs especially hard whenever Chan makes a joke and how he always has a faint look of amusement and happiness on his lips.

Seungkwan knows what’s going on.

He can see right through them.

Huh.

Seungkwan understands both of them, of course he does. He remembers what it felt like to first hear Vernon’s laugh that he reserves only for people he especially likes or to suddenly be struck with how enchanting Chan is.

But he wasn’t expecting them to feel it to.

Seungkwan stays sitting there, keeping as quiet as possible, and he starts to devise a plan.

---

The next day, a Saturday, Seungkwan meets up with Vernon.

“How did you like Chan?” Seungkwan asks. He tries to keep any teasing out of his voice, he doesn’t want Vernon to think he has to go on the defensive.

But Vernon’s ears burn bright red anyway. Seungkwan doesn’t point it out. “He was nice,” Vernon says.

Is that all? is what Seungkwan wants to ask. “Would you want to hang out again, the three of us?” he says instead.

“S-sure,” Vernon says.

“Okay, cool. I’ll let Chan know.”

“Did Chan already say that he wants to hang out again?” Vernon asks. Seungkwan wants to coo at him. Seeing his boyfriend with such an obvious crush is adorable.

“No, I haven’t asked him yet. But he will.”

“Okay,” Vernon says, trying to act cool. But Seungkwan can see the small smile on his lips, the same smile from last night.

Seungkwan picks Chan up from dance practice that evening, like he always does. He keeps telling Chan that he needs to learn to drive so that he doesn’t have to rely on Seungkwan, but Chan claims there’s no point when Seungkwan is so happy to do it for him. Seungkwan calls him a passenger princess but doesn’t put up that much more of a fuss.

“How did you like Vernon?” he asks while they’re on the road.

“He was really cool!” Chan says. “I see why you like him.”

“Yeah,” Seungkwan says. “He’s really handsome isn't he.”

“I suppose,” Chan says, looking away from Seungkwan and reaching into his bag.

Seungkwan giggles to himself. Chan is so polite.

“Would you want us three to hang out again?”

“Yeah, that sounds cool,” Chan says.

“Great, Vernon already said he wants to too, so I’ll sort something out soon.”

“Oh! Okay!” Chan squeaks. Cute.

---

The next time they hang out they go to the zoo together. Seungkwan packs some lunch and they have a picnic as well.

For most of the day Seungkwan hangs back and lets Vernon and Chan get to know each other better. Most of the time they don’t even seem to realise that he’s a couple of paces behind them. Seungkwan isn't offended by this at all. He knows what the new crush feeling is like, and he’s been dating both Chan and Vernon long enough that they’re comfortable with each other and the honeymoon phase is over. Seungkwan is happy with this. He likes it, in fact, knowing that his boyfriends might start to like each other just as much as he likes them.

They look good together, Seungkwan thinks. And Vernon clearly thinks Chan is really funny. Chan deserves that, Seungkwan thinks his jokes are lame most of the time so it’s good for someone to hype him up.

When they finally settle down to have lunch, Seungkwan feigns having to go to the bathroom so Chan and Vernon can have a conversation without him there. He peeks at them from around a tree and watches them talk.

They’re so cute, he thinks. He loves them both so much.

---

The next time, Seungkwan arranges a movie night. Vernon loves movies and talks about them all the time. He had been telling Chan about a movie that he loved and Chan had said that he wanted to see it. It was the perfect set up.

Seungkwan thinks this is a good test of Chan and Vernon’s compatibility. Chan tends to ask a lot of questions during movies, whereas Vernon likes getting fully immersed in them. If Vernon really does like Chan, then he will be able to overlook all of the questions being asked, or he might even find them cute. (Seungkwan thinks they’re cute; Chan is adorable when he doesn’t quite understand what’s happening).

Seungkwan arranges the snacks and drinks. He figures since they’re having it at his apartment, that would be appropriate. But when Chan knocks on his door he’s holding some fried chicken that he’d picked up on the way.

“I didn’t want you to think I was freeloading,” Chan says.

“I would never think that,” Seungkwan says, as he pulls Chan into the apartment and kisses him. “But thank you.”

Vernon shows up a couple of minutes later with three bubble teas. “I didn’t want to make you pay for everything,” he says. Seungkwan almost coos out loud. They’re both so sweet. “I didn’t know Chan’s order; I hope he likes this.”

“Don’t worry, he’ll eat everything,” Seungkwan says as he takes the cups out of Vernon’s hands. “Except cucumber.”

“Just like you!” Vernon grins at him. Yes, just like Seungkwan.

“Chan’s got dinner in the living room,” Seungkwan says. “I’ll just grab some plates and then I’ll be in.”

“Okay, I’ll set up the movie.”

Seungkwan turns around to go into the kitchen but Vernon surprises him by grabbing his elbow and spinning him around to plant a kiss on his cheek. “You look really nice,” he says quietly.

Seungkwan leans up to kiss him properly. “Thank you. I have two boys to impress tonight so it’s very important that I make myself look good.”

“You never have to try to impress us,” Vernon says. “We’re impressed by you no matter what.”

Seungkwan smiles at him and pats his cheek. “Go put the movie on,” he says.

When they’re finished eating Seungkwan has the difficult task of choosing who to cuddle up to. He could just sit there alone, but that doesn’t sound very fun. He’s with his boyfriends! He deserves a hug.

He looks between them. He wishes they could all cuddle up together, but that would make Chan and Vernon uncomfortable. One day, though, hopefully.

Vernon seems to see his dilemma. “Come here,” he says, raising one of his arms so he can put it around Seungkwan’s shoulders. Seungkwan can’t refuse him when he looks so soft and cuddly, so he shuffles over.

When he’s fully situated, he glances over at Chan, just to check that he’s okay, and finds Chan looking at them. He doesn’t look sad, or uncomfortable, or like he’s feeling any sort of negative emotion. Instead, he looks contemplative. Seungkwan shoots him a smile and Chan smiles back.

Seungkwan’s experiment turned out well; Vernon wasn’t bothered by Chan’s questions at all. He laughed whenever Chan asked something that should’ve been obvious, but he always answered him seriously and fully.

Vernon keeps his arm slung around Seungkwan, so Seungkwan can feel his laugh through his chest. It fills him with so much warmth. He wants to be here forever; enjoying the company of his two favourite people while they enjoy each other’s company too.

When Seungkwan goes to sleep, he has a smile on his face.

---

The next time all three of them hang out, the fourth time overall, Seungkwan has planned carefully. Once again, he invites both Vernon and Chan over to his apartment, but this time it’s on a weekday after they all finish work. He’s trying to show them that a relationship between the three of them could work and work well.

Vernon shows up earlier and they hang out in comfortable silence until Seungkwan has to leave to pick Chan up from dance practice.

Chan always has a shower straight after coming in the door. He says that the showers at the dance studio are tiny and have terrible water pressure so he would prefer to just shower either at home or at Seungkwan’s.

They get in the front door and Chan yells a hello to Vernon as he heads right to the bathroom. Seungkwan loves that he’s so comfortable here, he feels so lucky that Chan views his apartment as a comfortable space.

When Chan’s done, he comes back into the living room with dripping hair and a towel slung around his neck, like usual. He plugs the hair dryer in and passes it to Seungkwan so Seungkwan can blow-dry his hair. It’s their little ritual.

Seungkwan does it for a bit, and then makes a strategic exit.

“I need to check on dinner. Vernon, can you take over?” he asks.

“No problem,” Vernon says, and he takes Seungkwan’s spot on the couch.

Seungkwan stirs the pot of food and checks that it’s seasoned properly before taking a peek at his boyfriends. Vernon is carefully carding his fingers through Chan’s hair and Chan has his eyes shut and looks completely at peace.

They’re so precious, Seungkwan thinks.

They eat dinner round the table, and chat about their days before Vernon and Chan take over cleaning up the kitchen and then head home.

Seungkwan wants to ask them both to stay, but he doesn’t want to get ahead of himself. His plan is going exactly as intended, he can’t rush this.

---

The final part of Seungkwan’s plan happens that Saturday. He arranges another lunch date, just like the first one, but waits until ten minutes after they were supposed to meet to tell Vernon and Chan that he has a work emergency and so can’t make it. Vernon and Chan are both good about showing up on time; he knows they’ll already be there waiting for him. In his text, he insists that they still have lunch without him. The restaurant he had chosen was out of both of their ways, so he knows they’re less likely to just leave and waste the travel time.

Chan and Vernon are hanging out one on one. They’re technically on a date. It’s all perfectly planned out.

Maybe he feels a little evil for creating this situation, but it’s for the greater good! He knows they’ll thank him.

Seungkwan waits in his apartment on edge the whole time. He can’t text them and ask how it’s going; that would be too obvious.

He tries to watch a movie, but he can’t pay attention, so he just scrolls through social media trying to distract himself.

When enough time has passed, he texts both of them to let them know that he’d arrived home. He doesn’t want to interrupt, but also, he doesn’t want it to seem like he abandoned them.

They both text him back about five minutes later. That must mean the ‘date’ was going well if neither of them checked their phones for that amount of time.

Vernon: We’re still at the restaurant, do you want to meet us?

Seungkwan: I don’t think so. I’m too tired, plus I have food at home. But you guys enjoy!

Vernon: 😊

---

Seungkwan sees Vernon the next day.

“Sorry I missed lunch yesterday,” he says as he enters Vernon’s apartment. “Did you guys have fun anyway?”

“We did, actually. Chan is a really cool guy. I can see why you like him so much.”

“Are you saying that you were questioning my taste before?”

“Never!” Vernon says. He wraps his arms around Seungkwan’s waist. “I missed you.”

Seungkwan hugs Vernon back. “I missed you too.”

When they finish their food, and are sitting on the couch, Vernon straightens up and turns to Seungkwan, a serious expression on his face.

“I need to tell you something,” Vernon says.

Seungkwan straightens up too, no longer slouching. “What’s up?”

“I think I like Chan. In a more-than-friends way. I’m not doing to do anything about it, but I’m just telling you for honesty’s sake.”

Seungkwan takes Vernon’s hand in his. “Thank you for letting me know. And I get it, Chan is very cute. He’s easy to like.”

To Seungkwan’s surprise, Vernon starts blushing.

“Ooh, so you think he’s cute too?”

“Well, yeah,” Vernon says shyly. It’s been so long since Seungkwan saw shy Vernon.

“His smile is adorable, isn't it? And he gets all pouty when he’s tired. I get you.”

Vernon’s blush gets darker. “Yeah.”

“I won’t tease you about it anymore. Thank you for telling me.” Seungkwan tangles his fingers with Vernon’s and gives his hand a squeeze.

---

On Tuesday evening, Seungkwan meets Chan for dinner. Chan likes getting wined and dined, so Seungkwan tries to pamper him as much as he can afford.

“You look cute,” Seungkwan tells him. Chan does look very cute, but also, it’s Seungkwan’s little way of passing Vernon’s compliment onto Chan. He deserves to know.

“Thank you. You look really nice too.”

They take their seats, and the waiter comes over to take their drink orders.

“Sorry I missed lunch the other day, but it sounds like you and Vernon had a really nice time,” Seungkwan says.

“We did. He’s great; we had so much to talk about.”

Seungkwan smiles at him and Chan smiles back. “I’m so glad.”

After their drinks and meals have been delivered, Chan says, “I need to tell you something.”

Seungkwan puts his utensils down. “Shoot.”

Chan takes a deep breath. “I think I like Vernon. He’s so nice, and funny, and he’s such a good listener. Talking to him is so nice. I noticed that I felt this way when we were at lunch together. I have no intention of doing anything about it, but I thought I should tell you.”

Seungkwan smiles despite himself. He loves how differently Vernon and Chan responded to this situation, but how they both were so honest and straightforward about it. He really has two great boyfriends.

“Thank you for telling me,” Seungkwan says. “There’s nothing to stress about, I totally get it.”

“Of course, you get it, you’re dating him.”

“Do you want to talk about how handsome he is?”

Chan pouts. “No.”

“But he is super handsome, right?”

Chan’s cheeks go a pretty pink. “He is.”

Seungkwan reaches out and pinches them. “You’re very handsome too. I have two very handsome boyfriends.”

“I think you have a type.”

Seungkwan giggles. “I think I do.”

“So you don’t mind that I like Vernon?”

“Not at all.”

Seungkwan doesn’t tell Chan that this is what he’s wanted almost the entire time.

---

The plan comes to completion that Friday. Seungkwan couldn’t wait any longer.

He invites Chan and Vernon over to his apartment. He tells them both that the other will be there and lets them believe that they will be having another one of their hangouts. But, unlike normally, he stresses the importance of dressing nicely.

They show up, and Seungkwan wastes no time. “Sit on the couch,” he tells them.

Chan and Vernon give each other a look and take their seats, looking a bit nervous. Seungkwan knows that this approach isn't the most gentle, but Chan and Vernon will be able to handle it, and he doesn’t want to stretch this out.

“What’s going on, Boo?” Vernon asks.

“I have something to say. So please wait until I’m done.”

Vernon mimes zipping his lips shut and Chan stifles a giggle. Seungkwan is grateful that they seem relaxed.

“I am just going to put it all out there. As you both know, I love both of you a lot. And you both love me back.” Chan and Vernon nod. “Great. So, the latest revelation is that Vernon also likes Chan, and Chan also likes Vernon. You both like each other.”

Chan and Vernon both whip their heads around to look at each other and then blush and look away. “You each told me this within the last week, which is remarkably good timing. You are already in sync.” Vernon and Chan continue refusing to make eye contact. “As I told you both, I am totally okay with this. In fact, ‘Okay’ might be an understatement. I am very happy about this. So, my proposition is that you should also date each other. And me. We can all date each other.” There is silence in the room. “I will be going into my bedroom now; you both can talk it out.”

Seungkwan turns to leave but stops.

“If you don’t want this, that’s completely fine. I can’t say it won’t make me sad, but I will understand. Make the decision you both want to make, not the one that you think I want you to make.”

And Seungkwan walks into his bedroom and shuts the door.

After around 10 minutes, a length of time that was starting to worry Seungkwan, he gets called back into the living room by Chan.

They’re still sitting in their same spots on the couch, and they look happy. Seungkwan begins to fill with hope.

“First,” Chan says. “I wish you would’ve warned us about this. It feels a bit like an ambush.”

“I know, I’m sorry. Please just tell me what you’ve decided.”

“We want it,” Vernon says. “We want for us to all date each other.” Vernon looks at Chan and they both look away bashfully. Chan bites his lip to try and suppress his smile. Seungkwan almost squeals because of how cute they are.

“I’m so happy,” Seungkwan says. “Sorry for putting you in this situation, but it’s a good outcome, right?!”

“It is,” Vernon says, still keeping his eyes locked on Chan.

“Have you guys kissed yet?” Seungkwan asks.

Chan shakes his head wildly. “Of course not! We wanted to talk to you before we did anything like that.”

“Do you want to kiss?” Seungkwan asks.

Chan nods shyly, and Vernon says “definitely.”

“Okay, then do it. I’ve waited for this for so long, we need to get a move on.” Seungkwan crosses his arms over his chest.

“Do you want to?” Vernon asks quietly, as if it’s only for Chan to hear. Seungkwan melts a little. It’s this softness that made Seungkwan fall for Vernon in the first place; seeing it directed at Chan reminds Seungkwan of that.

“I do,” Chan answers. He raises his voice a little. “But Seungkwan, please don’t watch us.”

“Fine,” Seungkwan says. He spins around so his back is to them.

He waits a few seconds. “Are you kissing yet?”

“Not yet,” Vernon says. Seungkwan wants to see what they’re doing so badly, but he’s meddled enough. He’ll just have to be patient.

He hears them shuffle closer to each other, and then, finally, he hears the sound of their lips meeting.

They’re kissing. Seungkwan is elated.

They keep kissing. And keep kissing.

Eventually, Seungkwan’s patience runs out and he spins back around. He only catches them for a couple of moments before they break apart to tell him off, but that short time was possibly one of the best things Seungkwan has ever seen. Fuck, he loves them so much.

“What happened to privacy?” Chan asks.

“Sorry,” Seungkwan says, in a voice that betrays that he doesn’t feel sorry at all.

Vernon wraps an arm around Seungkwan’s shoulders and pulls him into himself. “Thank you,” he says, pressing a kiss to Seungkwan’s temple.

Seungkwan stretches out his free arm, inviting Chan to join the hug. Chan, still shy, moves slowly, but wraps his arms around them both.

Seungkwan has a really good feeling about this.
