Sweat clings to Joke’s back like a second skin, the only relief he has against the heat radiating from their bodies and oozing into the balmy humid night. There’s no air conditioning in Zo’s childhood home, no sweet, cool air to give them even a bit of respite through these merciless summer nights. The warmth threatens to consume them whole, to fill every crack and crevice of their beings until they suffocate.
Joke doesn’t care. He’ll happily suffocate, so long as he can die with Zo still under him like he is now.
