Finally, she makes a sound. “If you didn’t actually want to go, then you could’ve just said that, y’know,” she tells her, somewhat accusingly.
That throws Nancy off guard.
“What?”
“You don’t have to pretend that you want to be here, Nance. You can still go home if you want.”
Nancy quickly pulls over so she can look at Robin. She doesn’t care that it’s the middle of a busy street. She hopes that her expression conveys the same amount of hurt that she feels on the inside. “That’s—no, it’s nothing like that. I promise.” She pauses. Repeats, ‘I promise. I really just… didn’t have a good night last night. It’s okay. To be honest, I was looking forward to this ever since you asked me.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, Rob. Believe it or not, people actually want to be around you.”
