One minute he was in the men’s room. The next he was in the middle of a fairie court, being told that he had to defeat eight wizards to be set free, as their queen needed a champion and they could not successfully draft in another human.
It turned out that it took twenty-three years to finish defeating those wizards. He learned magic untold and walked upon roads made of candy and sugar, but all of that disappeared after the wizards were gone. They were years of color, and he missed them immediately.
But the fairies did leave him with a few small gifts. A magical pool stick. A fancy outfit.
And they put his son on the same road that he had walked down, ensuring they’d meet and duel at the table.
He had no idea if it was a divine provenance or just fairie magic. But he did his duty and dueled down to the last second.
In the end, the kid was worthy of claiming his part of the family lineage.
