House of Alphas

Chapter 53: Let There Be LIght

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

“HELP! LET US OUT!” You shouted at the top of your lungs.

“AYE DOWN HERE!” Your alphas tried to scream with you, aiding in volume. Their booming voices carried a lot further than your own. It was daunting to know you were fighting with the terrifying screeches of those in peril and the gleeful monsters.

Shadow Curses.

When you fight them, an ominous tune begins to play. A grueling symphony that has you both fearful for your group and perplexed by the daunting harmony.

Shadow curses were more aggressive and stronger than the others. The regular curse spirits were simple mobs that you killed. Some of them range from different strengths and levels depending on where you are, but for the most part, they were just dirt off your shoulder. Sometimes you tried to run or avoid them because you didn’t want to deal with them.

There were also of course the curse bosses such as Jogo, Hanami, Dagon, Mahito, and Rika, but those were bosses.

Shadow curses were like the updated trash mobs you fight when you are getting to the more difficult part of the game. You try to avoid them just because you don’t want to use too many supplies and they are trickier to fight. More of an annoyance, until you learn Divine light. Then it’s easier.

You first come into contact with them one random blood moon and after that, it continues to persist throughout the game. You meet Priestest Utahime who helps you strengthen your light magic and teaches you the special move Divine light.

One thing that you are learning now is that shadow creatures consume dark magic to get their strength. You thought all of its power derived from Kenjaku or the blood moon. Now you realize this fight here is what gives it to them. The witches’ home is their feasting grounds. You could feel the abundance amount of energy flowing through the floors alone. The energy that courses through this place is insane. If you don’t do something…the monsters will get stronger and much too powerful for even you to handle. If that happens they will consume your pack. It was like a ticking time bomb. Your curse energy was the timer. Once that runs out…

Fuckity fuck- you rubbed at your throat, your voice growing hoarse from all the screaming. Your alphas still persisted as you began to drown in uncertainty.

One episode down and you are already dealing with high-level mobs. You thought all of this was going to be a cakewalk, you planned so carefully but you keep coming into contact with shit you shouldn’t be fighting so soon. Your light magic isn’t anywhere where it needs to be. You mainly used it to heal not fight. You didn’t think you would require it till later.

“It’ll be okay, don’t stress out.” Toji rubbed your back gently, sensing your discomfort.

“We will keep you safe.” Nanami added.

“I’m going to attack the barrier, there’s only so much it can handle, step back.” Sukuna rolled his shoulders as he took his true form, ready to charge.

That was a silly idea. “No Sukuna, you could hurt yourself.”

“That’s why I have you to heal me back up.” Sukuna got in a crouch, as the others pulled you aside to safety.

“Can we just wait a minute-“

“There’s no time-“

“We can take turns too if need be “

*BAM!*

There was a loud slam, followed by scuffing and shuffling as if someone was dragging themselves along the wall. Your eyes darted to Mai who struggles to get to you, a deep scowl on her face as she bores you with the most scornful expression. Her body looks bloodied and abused. Like she had a wild dance with rocks.

“You!” She hissed holding her gun up. “How are you doing this!?”

“It’s not us!” Gojo scoffed.

“Let me-“You put a hand upon Satoru and gave a look to your alphas before you rested your gaze on the beta. “Mai… those creatures are of the shadow realm, your magic can’t kill them and the witches are only feeding them, making them stronger.” You hold up your hand as it shines with white light, “I can fend them off Mai please-“

“This is a trick! To let you out!” Mai thrust her gun forward making your alphas growl and try to stand between you and a possible bullet.

You push them aside, “Mai! My betas are out there! I would do nothing to harm them! Do you understand?! And Nobara-Maki- and Todo! They are my friends! I don’t want to see any of them get hurt! You have to believe me!”

Mai’s hand trembled and you heard more screams- and then it was silenced with a loud crunch. That was another life… gone… you choked on a sob, “Mai! They can’t defend themselves! Please! There’s no time for this!”

“You’re lying!”

“I-it’s not me! If you don't let me out, they will all die fuck-“ You duck down to grab a sharp rock.

“What are you doing-“

You didn’t allow your alphas to stop you as cut your hand. Thrusting it out you offered it to Mai, “I will make a blood oath with my life-“

The hell you will!” You gasped feeling Nanami snatch your wrist back, you didn’t mean to activate yandere Nanami but here you are, “Do you know what a blood oath is little girl?” He growled out rather upset with you. Your other alphas looked to share his sentiment.

A blood oath was more than a pinky promise. Think of it like a contract you cannot rip up. By the laws of nature, you will be held accountable.

“I-I don’t know what else to do!” You whined.

“I’ll make the blood oath.” Getou took the rock from you.

“No, me!” Gojo stepped forward.

“Enough!” Mai shouted at you all. “Just…just save them please…” She slid down the wall and with one last ounce of strength she tossed the key toward you.

Sukuna caught it with ease, turning it inward as he unlocked the gate.

Don’t you ever do something so reckless again.” Nanami gave you a pointed look, not letting you go until you agreed.

“Yes sir…I’m sorry.” Pleased with your answer he released you. You stepped out and then pointed to Mai, “Can one of you carry her, I’m going to need to save as much of my light magic as possible.”

Sukuna shook his head, “She will slow us down.”

“Yes, we will remember her noble sacrifice.” Gojo saluted, “Thank you, Megan.”

You rolled your eyes, “Someone pick her up and let’s go!”

“I got her princess.” Toji lifted the beta upon his back, the woman letting out a pained grumble.

“Alright, listen carefully whatever you guys do stay near me okay? The monsters are weak to holy light and won’t step too close. I won’t be able to kill them but at the very least I can protect who is in my circle okay? Attack what you need to but don’t exhaust all your energy it won’t do you any good. After you kill one it may have about a minute before it regenerates. Got it?”

Your alphas nodded but you noticed a certain look from Sukuna.

“What?” You questioned him.

“Nothing, let’s go.”

“Right.” You didn’t sit on it but you did see Sukuna look toward the others, for a secret conversation. Perhaps it was due to the fact that you knew about these new monsters that they and the world had never seen before.

You will make up a lie about it later but now was no time for you to play ignorant. Not when lives were on the line.

Sukuna went first with you second, running up the dungeon stairs as you held up a light to guide everyone. When you broke into the hallway, witches were running toward you screaming for dear life. The shadow creatures crawled on the walls and ceilings, slithering and clawing as they widened their sharp hungry jaws.

You held your bright light as the shadows screeched and flinched away, howling in anger as they paced on the outside of the white circle. Their dark flesh sizzled any time they got too close.

The two witches you saved let out a cry. “Thank you! Thank you so much!”

“Stay by the light and do not use your curse energy!“ There wasn’t a moment to spare as you trudged through the darkness with your white light. Your alphas would jump in and out of the circle to fight the creatures and save whatever witches they could. You stayed focused on your magic, trying to maintain it. Slow and steady. However, the more people you saved the bigger you had to make the circle. The more curse energy you had to pump out.

You were almost to the front entrance when you heard G. Ma shout, “Don’t let them eat the core! What are you doing!”

You went to follow her voice, but Sukuna grabbed your arm. “You are running out of steam, we need to go.”

“We haven’t found the others yet!”

“Well then let’s go through the walls!” Gojo blasted a chunk into the castle, making the other witches gasp. “It’s all falling apart anyway!”

Witches ran through the hole Gojo created not at all concerned about trampling over you.

Oh fuck-“

“Ah! We need to get out of here!”

“Hurry to the portal!”

Everyone was screaming around you in a state of panic.

“WAIT! STAY IN THE LIGHT!” But they gave not a moment to stop and think.

“PROTECT OUR HOME!” G. Ma screamed.

You jumped through the giant hole Gojo created and found a large shadow creature. It was gigantic, filling up the entire hallway. G. Ma was trying to fight it back, using her magic to block it, but it kept chomping away at the shield.

Momo and Inumaki were beside her, pushing it back with what they could. Other witches that were brave enough to stay also cast spell after spell, protecting their grand witch.

Todo jumped around killing the other monsters behind them, “There’s no end to them!”

The barrier that G.Ma and the others were holding was doing nothing. The giant monster was chomping away at it piece by piece, ripping it apart like an alligator. Each time it bit into the curse shield it got bigger.

“Damn, that thing is huge!” Gojo shouted.

“They keep feeding it!”

“Raven!” your betas called.

Upon your name, G. Ma hissed, “Wretched girl who let you out!”

“You are only feeding it you stupid witch!” sukuna growled.

“Shut up!”

“We need to make it to the portal!” One of the witches screamed almost getting snatched by a shadow.

Yet G.Ma doubled down, “We must not allow them to take our home!”

“I don't want to die!” Another cried, standing on wobbly legs- doing her best to follow orders. But she was terrified. You could smell the stench of her wetting herself.

There was so much going on, screams of needing to runaway while the others fought on to save what they could. Their bravery and ignorance is their own downfall. You could see how they all died now.

“G. Ma! We must get out of here!” You yelled above the commotion, scaring away the other dark shadows that Todo was fighting.

The alpha fell to his knees, panting. “Th-they keep coming back...” he huffed out of breath.

“They can't be killed.” Nanami informed, “Our best form of action is getting out of here!”

“Fools! If we let these creatures devour everything-”

You growled in anger, “They will devour you! And all your witches don’t you see! Look around you!”

“G.Ma! Trust raven!” Inumaki yelled.

“I trust her! Just like I told you! She saved the villagers who were attacked! And she risked her life to protect her cursed friend. Trust us G.Ma! Trust Raven! STOP BEING A STUBBORN OLD HAG!” momo shouted.

G. Ma gasped in shock looking between Momo and then you, and finally her other witches who were secretly begging for the same thing. Fear sketched in their expressions.

You pushed on, seeing a chance to break through the thickhead woman, “I know you care for all your witches no matter if they are bad or good. You cherish them all. But if we don't leave they will all die, right along with you.”

G. Ma grits her teeth, before her face relaxes, “Witches! We must retreat! Follow Raven, the prime omega!”

Everyone nodded. “Yes ma'am!”

G. Ma released a wave of energy that pushed the giant monster through the wall. It screeched from the sudden impact, but was quickly recovering.

“Run!”

You took off back through the wall, charging toward the front door. Creatures stood in the way, but as you came at them with your light they scurried away. Gojo blasted the door open so your group could run out together. On the path of blood it still rained ooze of dark shadows. They were everywhere. The giant shadow from before let out a loud roar as all the other creatures did the same. Every shadow came charging your way but you let your light pulse.

“They’re coming!”

“Raven will protect us!”

“Stay in the light!”

“You got this baby.”

Adrenaline pumped through your veins as well as your buzzing light energy. Your heart was pumping at full speed, about to bust out of your chest. You were their saving grace, all of their lives were upon your shoulders. It was all terrifying. Watching as the aggressive shadows all threw themselves at your light. Relentlessly cruel. You let it all flow through you, the fear the hope the anger - all of it- covering everyone in a warm blanket of light.

Your eyes focused on the tower.

You must make it.

There was no time for what ifs.

You just had to.

No matter how much it all hurt. No matter how scared you were- this was something you had to do. Like, it was as simple as breathing.

The shadows swirled around the world, engulfed it. Your circle of light dispersed it, as if it were the eye of the storm. You could feel them. Feel them try to destroy your light. Pressing on it- urging you to give in and let them consume you.

The tower began to glow, the hands on the clock turning quickly- someone was in there using the portal!

“Someone is activating the portal!”

Once the shadows noticed this too they all began to charge toward the tower- trying to destroy it.

“AH! They are trying to break it down!”

“We must get there!”

“Hurry!”

There was a bright arc that swooped across the realm. In front of the tower, you could see Maki fighting with a lance that burned fire. Her warrior cries could be heard far and wide as she circled and danced around.

“Gojo, Sukuna!” you cried.

“Got it!” Gojo and Sukuna began to shoot at the shadows from afar. Fire and a blast of purple shredded through the shadows. In a matter of seconds, the cut they created was quickly replaced by more.

It was an endless sea of darkness that they had to keep trying to dispel.

That was until you got to the tower and you light pushed all the shadows away.

“Maki!” you cried as the woman readied for an attack but she noticed the monsters were repelled by your light.

“Wow- that's amazing.” she let out a tired laugh, using her javelin to hold her up.

You looked behind her to notice the chains that she put on the door, followed by some yelling.

“MAKI PLEASE DON'T DO THIS!” it was Nobara.

“Get these chains off! We gotta get inside!” the others ran toward the door to open it up.

You furrowed your brows as you looked toward Maki.

The beta looked away sadly. “It was the only way to protect her…”

You placed a hand upon her arm, squeezing it gently, “You did amazing Maki, anyone would be proud to have a guardian like you.”

She gave you a smile and just as she was about to fall from exhaustion, Nobara ran out to catch her.

“Maki!” she cried with tears in her eyes, holding the woman to her chest, “Maki-”

"Nobara..."

"Why! Why would you-"

“Nobara! We gotta get inside okay.” Before you could help Maki up Nanami had stepped in for you to help.

Getou put a hand to your back, “Come on sweetheart we gotta go, I can feel your energy dwindling."

You nodded, filling in with everyone else as the door was shut. The witches began to chant loudly and the monsters thrashed around outside.

Pieces of the tower began to crumble but the others made sure none of the debris crushed anyone. As you held your light up high you could see the shadow curses wiggling their way inside. Your light was beginning to flicker reaching its end.

Just as your light went out the portal was open and you all vanished.

The rumbling stopped as well as the chanting.

You were back in the old clock tower in town.

Everyone was silent and then there were loud cheers and cries. Everyone is thanking you. Showering you with praise much like the first town you saved. Hugging each other and blessing you for another day.

You made it.

You felt your throat choke up as you looked upon all the faces that you had saved. Even though some had still met a grueling fate…you were proud of yourself.

You couldn't help but cry.

You couldn't believe you made it out.

All those emotions you bottled up during your escape came back at you now that you were safe. It was overwhelming.

Your alphas nuzzled you gently as you shed your tears. They whispered sweet nothing to you and you melted into them.

~

It was amazing to see your alphas seem not to have a lick of trauma from what just happened. If anything the most traumatic thing that occurred for them was when you tried to do a damn blood oath.

Truly it was interesting how much they just cared about you. They protected and helped the other witches because you wanted to but they were ready to leave them all behind. You don't necessarily know how you feel about that. It was like you had a pack of alphas at your becking call. A weapon that you control to do as you wish. And you knew they'd do anything to protect you even if that meant fighting off the spirits as you escaped just like Maki had done.

Having something so powerful such as five prime alphas felt ominously strange.

You helped the others, tending to those who needed it emotionally or physically. You alphas tried to get you to sit down but you were running on the last bit of adrenaline you had. Your battery on 1%. A strong 1% of course.

"Raven." G.Ma called you over, your betas by her with their arms crossed.

You made your way to her, your gaze cautious. You felt your alphas migrate to you, clinging close behind. Your betas' smiles had you feeling that you could relax. Then your eyes moved to Yorozu who was standing behind G.Ma with her arms crossed. You could have done without saving her.

You cleared your throat as you approached the old woman, "Yes?"

"I..." G.Ma took a deep sigh as if what she was about to say was taking a lot out of her. "Apologize."

You looked at her impressed, "Really?"

"I want her head." Sukuna growled.

"Shut up Sukuna." One of your alphas whispered as G.Ma glared at him.

"Is that it?" You questioned looking at her and then Yorozu who turned her nose up.

"Tch-If you think I'm going to let you slaughter my granddaughter then you are wrong. Let's just call this all... even."

"And..." Inumaki pushed.

"And...I will look at your mark."

"For real this time?" Gojo questioned.

G.Ma rolled her eyes, before reaching toward you, "Yes...let me see it."

You looked toward your alphas as they nodded their heads for you to continue. You rested your gaze on G.Ma and wordlessly gave her your hand. You weren't going to accept her apology until she actually gave you some viable information.

You watched G.Ma's face closely as she activated her eyes. She cocked her head to the side and then hmphed, releasing your hand, "It's actually nothing to worry about."

You pulled your hand to your chest, with a little lean to your head. "For real this time?"

"Yes yes for real this time girl." G. Ma gestured to her eyes, "This mark is actually something more. Use your dark curse energy to look at it."

"My dark curse energy..." You spoke absentmindedly while looking at your hand. Was it always that simple? "Alright." Grabbing your dark energy you pushed it to your temples and spoke- "Vizi."  Your eyes pulsed with darkness, your vision cast in shadows this time. Looking at your mark it was no longer a black fuzzy spot. It pulsed with a white sigil that appeared to be an arc of five lines going from small to large.

"Do you see it?" G. Ma questioned.

"Yes..."

"What does it look like?" Gojo questioned. You could feel him trying to peer at your hand.

"Like... a..." It almost looked like the wifi signal that you get on your phone. "Arcs... like from small to big."

Getou hummed, "What an interesting symbol... can't say I have ever heard of such a thing."

"It's something new." G.Ma explained. "I never perfected such a spell but we have a little girl by the name of Nanako, she uses this magic to communicate with us, and calls it a Celloc. But I have never seen so many arcs. Her's usually only has two."

"Wow..." You blinked as you dispelled Vizi. "I have never heard of it..." and you weren't lying-it wasn't in the game.

"So you are saying someone is trying to communicate with her?" Nanami hummed while rubbing his chin.

"Who could that be?" Toji furrowed his brows.

"Could it be possible it's someone from the other side?" Getou inquired.

"Yes. I don't know and Perhaps." G.Ma shrugged, "I do not know much about it, but I know it won't harm you. Think of it like a letter upon your hand if anything."

"How do I activate it?" You questioned. It was a damn phone. You had a fucking cell phone on your hand. What the fuck did Mahito want to talk to you about and how the hell would you have known what it was?! Unless... it wasn't Mahito. Could it be someone else? Someone from Raven's past?

The grand witch rubbed at her chin, "What was the activation code for the Celloc?" She looked toward Yorozu who wrinkled her nose.

"I don't know, I didn't associate with those pests."

Ugh, she made you want to throw up. You wondered if it was something along the lines of answer.

G. Ma then snapped her fingers, "Ah! Ansho!"

You internally rolled your eyes. "Ansho?" You repeated for clarification.

"Yes, and to end it you can use a simple dispel spell. Put your hand to your forehead and speak the spell."

You took a deep breath, lifting your hand, "Okay..."

"Wait..." Nanami placed a hand on your wrist. "And you are sure this isn't dangerous in any way?"

"A nine-year-old created this spell what do you think?"

"That doesn't change the question." Sukuna narrowed his eyes. That seemed fitting since you heard Sukuna was a menace at nine as well.

G. Ma waved her hand, "If it were dangerous I would have learned it. Nanako's spell could only reach you if you were in one room over, the most she did was talk your head off. I would assume whoever is trying to reach you could be possibly towns over. Now that is more useful... but other than that it's just a harmless message spell. Like I said."

"I want to do it." You nodded with affirmation. "It will finally put a rest to this mark and get rid of it."

"Could we use it too?" Gojo pulled your hand to his forehead but G.Ma shook her head.

"Only the one that received the spell. Go ahead now, I gotta bigger issue to deal with right now."

She didn't need to say all of that but you nodded. Bringing your hand to your forehead.

"We will be right here if you need us..."

That was the last thing you heard before you said, "Ansho."

And everything went dark.

Sneak Peak Chapter 54

~

...

You sat on the edge of the bed, Toji comfortable in one of the armchairs, Sukuna leaned against the wall. Getou was in the desk chair with Gojo on top of the table.

You were in the center. It felt like you were in the hot seat... well you were...You had disobeyed your alphas.

"What were you thinking?" Nanami paused, looking toward you with his fists planted on his hips, angry eyes glaring from over his glasses.

You took time to gulp, readjusting yourself on the bed, "I...was thinking-"

"Speak up."

You jolted at his harsh tone. You didn't enjoy being yelled at. Or disciplined, especially by Nanami. So already your voice was cracking and your eyes were starting to sting. You fluttered your wet lashes as you wiped under your eye, "I-I was thinking...th-that Yuta could help me... regain my memories...and save Junpei-nh!” at the end of your sentence you did let out a sob. Yet your tears seemed to be ineffective this time.

Your blonde flicked his fingers at Gojo who hopped up to give you a handkerchief but then he returned to his spot. You thanked him quietly while dabbing at your face.

Your throat tensed, you just wanted to say how sorry you were. But unfortunately, you can't go back on this. You can apologize all you want but you had to go down there. You had to save this Yuta character just like you saved Maki. These were canon events that were linked together. You didn't want to go down there either- truly you didn't…but with how the plot is plotting... this was a must. This wasn't just a simple side quest of give me ten wolf skins or a silly escort quest- these quests felt extremely important. Like you just opened up a whole world of important missions that will affect everyone's lives greatly.

For starters the witches are holding the shadow creatures in their home, protecting the gates. That means that they cannot be summoned out in the world. They can be trapped there until you are ready to go in blasting the holy light up their asses.

Already you have saved countless people's lives just by saving them.

This just felt like a start to a bigger picture. Your alphas just didn't understand how dire this was.

"Listen..." Nanami pushed up his glasses with a tense shove, "I know you've been in the omega home for some time and read books or what have you about things, but the Land of Ruins is no place for any creature let alone a pretty little bird like yourself."

"I know-"

"You don't."

"Or..." Sukuna drawled shifting to his other foot. "...She does know about what she's getting into. Just like she knew about the shadow spirits. How do you know so much? And don't tell me it's in the books because I know damn well there’s not a word about shadow curses anywhere.”

You opened your mouth and blinked left then right while shaking your head, "Well I-"

"I saw it." Toji pointed.

"That was an easy one." Sukuna smirked.

Oh what the fuck-

"More lies and tales?" Nanami crossed his arms tight, muscles bulging with tension.

You were in shock, now you didn't know what to do. Quickly you looked toward your silly alphas for some aid.

Getou shook his head, "Don't look over here, darling."

"Yeah, this is like the first time we aren't in trouble."

“Feels almost strange doesn't it Gojo?”

“You said it.”

Well, they were no help!
