“Hi!” Enid squeals as she bounces up to the man, nearly shoving the piece of paper with Wednesday’s number into his chest. He moves half a step back, eyebrows drawn together before slowly taking the slip of paper from her hand. His eyes widen, eyebrows shooting halfway up his forehead as he reads it then flicks his eyes back up to her face.
“I’m flattered, but I can’t accept that.” He says awkwardly, gently pushing the note back toward her. “I’m sorry, but there’s actually a girl I’m interested in.”
Enid tilts her head, quirking an eyebrow in confusion before it dawns on her. He thinks she’s hitting on him and offering him her number. “No, no, no. I’m Enid, Wednesday’s roommate. That’s her number.” She quickly corrects.
“Oh! Hi, I’m Tyler.” His frown shifts into a wide grin and he offers a hand to Enid to shake. “I’m sorry none of our trees have been to your satisfaction. Hopefully, you’ll approve of the tree we selected tonight.”
It’s Enid turn to frown as she mulls his words over. She’d been more than happy with the first tree, why would he think –
Oh, she’s going to hurt Wednesday. Of course, her roommate would use her as an excuse to keep seeing the cute boy instead of actually admitting to herself she’s developed feelings for Tyler. If Wednesday isn’t willing to do something about her crush, she’ll just have to do it for her, Enid decides.
“You should call her.” Enid says, holding the slip of paper out to him again. “Ask her on a date.”
“Yeah?” He asks, his eyes wide and hopeful.
Enid nods, offering him one more encouraging smile as she turns away. Her smile widens as her excitement for her friend grows and she skips to her car. She hopes she makes it home before he calls so she can see Wednesday’s face when he asks her on a date.
And well, she’s also hoping she makes it home before Wednesday decorates their newest tree. If Wednesday has been using her as an excuse, she thinks it’s only fair she gets one traditionally decorated tree in the apartment.
