Chapter Text
The trials for the government attack took a bit longer than everyone expected but after 6 months, they were finally done. With full public support, all ex-heroes were completely acquitted of their crimes. This was helped by the fact that any of the wounded Academy heroes, government guards and military personell had testified that they had at no point felt threated for their life and that the ex-heroes had all extremely opposed the one killing that had happened on that day. Everybody understood that sometimes, the means to an end were justified and that this had been one of those times. Everytime a new hero got acquitted, it was breaking news and they were officially reinstated as active heroes of the Academy.
Only Daydream decided to really officially quit as a hero and instead become a reporter. The Academy had thrown a huge goodbye party for him with more tears than any hero cared to admit. He was now one of the most popular reporters out there, especially under teens as the MrBeast paper had become the news source for teens and young adults.
Quackity and Schlatt’s trials, however, had only just began. Before any of their trials could begin, the Academy and Government were first purged of any hero and government official who had (willingly or unwillingly) supported Quackity and Schlatt and those trials, because they could add valuable information, had to begin and end before the two leader’s trails could end. It was an exhausting task to not only find who had supported them but also who had done so willingly. All in all, everyone knew that the trials for the two leaders would probably take years but luckily, all that time they would be locked away in Pandora’s and most likely, Pandora’s would become their forever home.
Cypher had been the first hero to be acquitted of his crimes and had immediatly taken over the role as head of the Academy officially, even if he had been doing so behind the scenes the whole time. Spreen, the former head of the Academy before Quackity had taken over had also come back and together with Captain they now formed a three-headed lead. Spreen had taken over the financial and administrative part, Captain the active heroes part and Cypher, of course, the heroes in training part and the system worked perfectly.
The first elections, which took place three months after the government attack, had seen an turn-out of over 80%, the highest election turn-out in the history of L’Manburg and the former vice president had won with a landslide after his extremely strong performance as interim-leader of the country.
Also as expected, the adult members of the Syndicate had all gotten life sentences for their part in being the most feared villain organisation. However, as a thank you for their part in the overthrowing of dictator Schlatt, all four were eligible for parole after 20 years. After all their identities had been revealed, the public was once again reminded that even the worst villains started out as normal people with a normal life. Of course, Technoblade had taken his sentencing with the pride of a fairly beaten warrior, only grumbling about the mandatory psych test that he knew he wouldn’t pass. Wilbur, however, had taken his trial and the sentencing so badly that the judge had added mandatory therapy to his sentencing before the psych test even took place. Philza and Niki had simply been happy to hear that they would be eligible for parole as it had been the story for days leading up to the sentencing that parole would mostly likely not be possible.
The four kids had gotten a lot lighter sentencing. None of them had ever killed anyone and they had only just started to go out with the adults. All four had gotten similar sentencing, with only Tommy’s sentence being higher because he had been the most active out of the four. All four had to spend time in a youth detention center and all of them would be placed to pandora’s as soon as they turned 18 to finish the remainder of their sentencing. They also all got mandatory therapy and were enrolled in a program to reintroduce them to normal life.
Bad, Foolish, Kris and Jimmy were also fully acquitted of their crimes and they all returned to their day jobs without any problems. Of course they all visited Dream’s cat cafe whenever they could and because of everything that happened, a real friendship had also flowered between the four. They often went out for drinks or they played games together.
Only Dream had gotten a real sentencing for his part in the government attack, just as Cypher had predicted. He didn’t have to go to prison and the fine he officially had to pay was covered by the Academy, however he was sentenced to mandatory power monitoring for two years. This meant that he was always wearing an ankle monitor which could read any sudden change in his energy levels that could point to a power manic. And, because his friends were absolute traitors (he loved them), he had to go to weekly therapy sessions for a full year. Luckily, his therapist was a nice women who reminded him of Captain and he actually enjoyed going. She even accommodate to him by only scheduling him in the evenings so he could still run his cafe as normal.
And that was needed because his cat cafe was doing better than ever. A story had gone round that heroes often visited a cat cafe called Patches, and ever since then people had absolutely flooded the cafe. Dream was busy every day to make sure the cafe was running exactly as he wanted to and he had even officially hired Drista so they always had enough people running the cafe. At first one of the heroes was always monitoring him but as soon as he got his ankle monitor, they went back to their normal duties and while Dream enjoyed the company, he liked the freedom he had without them. Not that he would ever spend a long time without his friends. He still lived above the cafe with George and Sapnap and Punz and Foolish were at the cafe so often that Drista had started to refer to them as the “unmovable statues in the corner.”
“Dream” a very groggy looking George said a second after teleporting into the cafe.
“Can you go get Sapnap for me, he doesn’t want to wake up.” he whined and Dream couldn’t help but laugh.
“It takes you just as much energy as me to get him! But you just want the extra minutes to cuddle with Cherry!”
“I don’t see your point.” George simply said back and Dream just shook his head, gave his friend his normal drink and teleported to the apartment to get Sapnap. As usual, Sapnap woke up in the panic of being teleported and started swearing like a sailor before the many cats that swarmed him calmed him down. It was like nothing had ever changed at all.
