Jack blinked at the hat in front of him. “Secret Santa? Really?”
“Da!” North laughed. “Is a funny idea I found from the humans!” Jack looked back at the bag and shrugged, sticking his hand in. Jack squinted at the swirly handwriting - so maybe he never learned how to read cursive, sue him. The letters stared back up at him.
Bunnymund
Jack pouted. He had no clue what to get Aster! The second everyone was dismissed, he flew off.
When North was finally recovered from the Christmas Flight, everyone gathered in his workshop. Jack got some looks when he arrived empty-handed but a quick beam allayed their worries. He closed the circle that the others had made around the pile of presents, sitting between North and Aster. For an event with five people, it didn’t go by fast. North had hand-crafted a new pair of swords for Tooth, her old ones long since rusted. In turn, he received a glass mural of Santoff Claussen from Sandy, and Sandy received a small, attention-gaining bell from Tooth. Just Aster and Jack were left. Aster gave Jack some pencils, paints, and paper. “I noticed that you enjoy making your frost look like art.”
Jack smiled and put them to the side as he reached into his hoodie. “Do you want me to paint these?” He asked, offering Aster small, wooden figurines of each of them.
“Wha. . .” Aster took the figurines. “Did you make these yourself?” Jack nodded.
“I noticed that your Warren was pretty empty of personal things, and it felt a little lonely, so I made these! I’m not great at magic, but I found a spell that would make them grow and shrink in North’s library. This way, they can double as statues!” Sure enough, the needed runes were hidden seamlessly in the figurines. They replaced North’s tattoos, a couple of Tooth’s feathers, and Aster’s markings. They were carved into Jack’s staff and Sandy’s hair. Aster pulled Jack into a hug.
“They’re perfect.”
