Stillness

Summary:

Legend has it that when the rain comes, the hydro dragon cries.

It’s an old saying in the land of Fontaine, but one that has lingered and remained in Navia’s mind since that one fateful day.

Notes:

It's been over a year, but I'm happy to be able to post something before the year ends.

I'm a bit rusty, but hope this makes you all smile a little somehow!

Work Text:

Legend has it that when the rain comes, the hydro dragon cries.

It’s an old saying in the land of Fontaine, but one that has lingered and remained in Navia’s mind since that one fateful day.

Her words seemed to have stung him.

While she has apologized since that day, she can’t help but remember the expression in his eyes.

Distraught, guilt, stress…

And to add to the memory, the rain had come to further dampen the atmosphere.

Since then, she has associated the rain with such a memory.

But then again, it was only today that she truly gave herself the time to process through her emotions. There had been so little time to dwell on everything. From the moment she aided the traveler with Lyney’s trial to ensuring the safety and organizing relief efforts to those who had lost possessions and loved ones due to Fontaine’s prophecy almost drowning them all along with many shocking revelations.

As much as she had questions, she preferred being able to manage what she could control for the time being.

Today though, she has decided to give herself the time to truly face her inner tribulations.

Perhaps a bad time as the rain adds to the somber emotions she kept in a bottle, especially in regards to her father, Silver, and Melus.

As grateful as she is for the life she is granted, she cannot help but think that fate, time, whatever higher being there is beyond the archons, is cruel to humans.

The rain persists as she steadily walks along the vicinity of the Fountain of Lucine. While many run for shelter, she continues her stroll with her umbrella providing her shade from the downpour.

Navia’s mind continues its reverie. In actuality, she would want to be working right now but her subordinates have requested her to give herself a moment to breathe.

But really, it feels like she is mostly drowning

Emotions are definitely so difficult to deal with.

At times like these, she would be speaking with Melus and Silver. Oh how she wishes to tell them that while things have been going well, especially thanks to their dedication. During times like these, they kept her grounded, allowed her to be vulnerable before helping her pick up the pieces of her frail heart especially during the time of her father’s passing.

Her eyes begin to water, up until she sees a familiar figure a few meters ahead standing in the midst of the shower.

A wave of deja vu hits her as the memory of his expression back when she lashed out on him plays in her head.

The same emotions can be seen in his eyes, but she catches a new one she knew all too well.

Grief.

It has not been long since Furina’s departure from the Court of Fontaine. Immortality, given that she is mortal, is a hard thing to grasp, but given that they had been together for possibly centuries, it could count as some passing as well.

Possibly there’s more to it, but she would rather not ask.

He may not show it externally, but his eyes gave the impression that if he were to dwell on whatever burdened him, Neuvillette would likely shatter.

She approaches quietly, providing him shade with her umbrella. Such gets him to finally notice her presence.

He’s taken aback at first, but then his expression softens ever so slightly as the downpour persists but lightens to some extent.

They both say nothing, simply allowing themselves to ride the tides of their own respective emotions.

But at least, now they aren’t exactly alone.
