Work Text:
Jack knew this was wrong, knew he was breaking a plethora of protocols, but-
“Damn, baby… you feel so fucking good.” He breathed over the glorious view of Gabriel beneath him. The other moaned in mutual agreement as Jack rhythmically thrusted into him, bending him over his desk.
The air was hot and their skin hotter. It smelt like sex and sweat and pheromones. There was absolutely nothing better than rutting into his mate. Nothing better than spreading the other alpha’s ass wide for his cock.
Jack gripped Gabe’s hip, keeping his pace as he leaned down to trail kisses up his back ending with a rough bite over their bond mark at Gabe’s nape. Gabriel howled and reached a hand back to grab a fist full of Jack’s blonde hair to pull them as close together as possible. Jack’s other hand stroked Gabe’s length knowing the both of them were so very close…
But before they could knot, before they could kiss one more time, before they could say they loved each other it was all gone.
Jack woke up with a start in his hotel room.
Damnit.
Another dream. Like all the others he had since Dr. Ziegler put him back together after the Swiss HQ was destroyed. She was the only one who knew he was still alive and Jack was grateful for both his life and her silence. But in these quiet moments after his dreams he would wish he had remained dead.
It had been two years since he’d lost everything. His life, his sight, his friends and his mate. Now he was no longer “Jack Morrison” or “Soldier 76”. He was the one man army, a wanted vigilante, the boogeyman for what remained of Talon. He knew from the U.N. reports that they were responsible for the terrorist attack and he would take them all down for it.That is why he was in this dusty, run down hotel room in the middle of Arizona.
He took his visor from the stained bedside table and got up from the bed to get dressed. It no longer bothered him that he only saw in shades of red, blue, and purple— like constantly looking through 3D glasses. It hardly mattered when his entire wardrobe consisted of leather jackets, white T’s, jeans, and no lace combat boots. Not to mention the ability to switch between inferred and heatsigniture vision was extremely helpful in most of the situations he found himself in. His neck ached as he pulled the shirt over his head and he ran his hand over the long healed bond mark on his nape. It still hurt after all this time, but it was a good reminder of why he kept going.
After a few weeks of gathering information in and around the state capital Jack was eager to follow up on a promising lead. The old Ford pick-up engine cried when it started, but was drowned by the air conditioner as Jack put it on full blast so he wouldn’t melt from the hot desert sun. He drove along the main stretch of Route 66 for a little over an hour until he had reached a stretch of it that hadn’t been developed for tourism. Off on a little dirt road was an antique single pump gas station with a bar adjacent to it. If not for the large skyward sign, The Branded Bull, it would be almost unnoticeable from the main road.
Inside most of the space was taken up by the bar with only a few tables on the far wall. They were made of recycled barn wood which matched the rest of the western decor. At the bar, prepping for the evening, was a man he hadn’t seen in two years. Despite the years he looked all the same from the tumbly brown hair covered with a cowboy hat to his bright red serape worn over a flannel and jeans.
“Jesse McCree.” The cowboy froze his eyes darting to the door where Jack stood.
“Don’t go by that name anymore, stranger, it’s Cole. I hope yer not here for trouble.” He said, placing a hand on top of the holster at his hip. Jack wasn’t threatened as he strode to the bar top and took a seat in front of the other.
“Not unless you don’t have answers for me. My sources say you know where some Talon operatives are hiding out. I need to know where that would be.”
Cole narrowed his eyes. “I don’t know what yer talking about. So I’ll kindly ask ya to leave my bar now.”
Tensions rose exponentially as Jack reached over the bar, grabbing the gunslinger’s shirt and pulling so his knees bent forward. Cole went to take Peacemaker out of its holster, but Jack wrestled it out of his hand. There wasn’t going to be bloodshed today, but he wouldn’t stand being lied to.
“Wrong answer. Tell me where they are and I’ll leave.” He growled.
Cole’s breath hitched in his throat for a moment as the air was permeated by the alpha’s predatory pheromones. Composing himself he put his hand around the other’s wrist that held onto his shirt. He wasn’t one to sell out his friends.
“Gettin’ all up in my face ain’t gonna change my answer, sweetheart. Still don’t know what yer talkin’ about.”
“If I didn’t know better I’d say you were defending them. Why would you of all people do that?”
Before the situation could get much worse a pair of hands pulled Jack off of Cole and pinned him against the opposite wall. Hanzo was considerably shorter than most alphas, but was not any less strong or protective of his omega. A punch to the face made Jack’s head hurt and he slumped against the wall, his visor falling to the floor. He couldn’t see and another blow made contact with his face before he heard Cole tell Hanzo to stop.
“Jack!? Yer alive!?” He came over and handed the old soldier back his visor.
His nose was bloody, but he had been through much worse. He didn’t want anyone else from Overwatch to know that he wasn’t dead, but there was no point in trying to hide it now. After an apology and several long minutes Hanzo calmed down enough to wait on the few tables as customers started to fill the dive bar.
Once Jack explained what had happened and Cole understood why he was after Talon the cowboy relented the location of the ex-operative.
“I’ll tell ya where they are. Just promise me when ya get there you won’t go in guns blazin’. They didn’t have any choice in joinin’. They’re just tryin to their best to live a normal life now.”
Jack agreed with no intention of keeping it. It didn’t matter who they were. Talon took everything from him so he was just returning the favor. It wasn’t too far from his hotel room, it would figure after all this they were just under his nose. His neck burned as he returned to his hotel room, he couldn’t say he wasn’t envious of the happily mated pair. Between that and the setting sun Jack would have to settle for hunting down the Talon operative the next day.
An apartment complex was not what Jack was expecting when he drove to the address Cole had given him. Most Talon agents hid in warehouses, hovels, some even camped miles from any civilization to try and remain invisible to normal society. It was not the nicest neighborhood judging from the cracked exterior walls and bars on most of the windows, but still a legitimate residential area.
With a grumble he hid his pulse shotgun under the seat of his pickup. His 9mm Sig Pistol would have to do so he wouldn’t attract attention. Jack parked and walked up to the address door with a hand in his jacket pocket, gripping his pistol.
He had mentally prepared himself to assault whoever answered the door, but was taken completely off guard when it opened. The man was as tall as he was with dark sun kissed skin and mostly grey hair. What floored Jack was the scent in the air. It was alpha, but comparatively faint to one like his own, and extremely familiar to him .
This couldn’t be real, each of them must have been dreaming.
Without a word they threw themselves in each other’s arms. Jack pushed them inside and up against the nearest wall as he buried his face in Gabriel’s neck and scented him. His tongue ran over his scent gland and bit down without thinking.
When Gabe woke up this morning he was not expecting this. It was supposed to be like any other day since escaping from Moria O’Deorain’s clutches and erasing his true identity. It was supposed to be working under the table jobs to earn just enough for rent and food. But when he opened the door there was Jack, looking completely different, but smelling completely the same, and then they were renewing their long healed bond marks.
The blood on their lips as they intertwined caused Jack’s pheromones to spike. The heavy lust musk permeated the air and Gabe’s eyes went wide. Fear rose up from his chest and he pushed Jack off of him, the other didn’t know.
“Wait!”
Jack was stunned for a good minute. Just staring as his head buzzed, and then he blinked and his brain caught up to the rest of his body.
“Gabe… I thought you were dead.”
“I was. Talon brought me back.”
Jack’s face stiffened along with the rest of his body. If anyone else had said that to him they’d already be dead. He looked away as his emotions tore him in two different directions. Between his hatred for Talon and the love of his mate he’d thought he’d never feel again. “So you did work for them.”
“Yes, but it wasn’t by choice.”
It shouldn’t have mattered, but Jack would find every excuse to forgive Gabriel. He simply couldn’t keep his anger as his heart swelled each moment he realized the Gabe in front of him wasn’t a dream. Closing the distance he brought his mate into another hug, this one much more gentler than the first.
“Jack.” Gabriel sighed after a soft kiss, pushing him back at arm's length. “I have to tell you I’ve changed. It won’t be like before.” He motioned for Jack to take a seat on the couch in the space just left of the entryway. With some reluctance Jack obliged.
Gabriel explained after the explosion he was found by Moria, who had actually been a spy for Talon within Blackwatch. She took his broken body and put it back together using her experimental technologies. A corpse stuffed with nanobodies and drugs to create an uncatchable assassin. They had sent him after Jesse not expecting the omega to survive, let alone wake up Gabriel’s consciousness that they thought had been—conveniently —lost since he had died. He didn’t know if it was his death or Moria’s experiments, but he didn’t undergo ruts anymore and his scent was progressively fading every year since.
“I’m barely an alpha… barely the man you fell in love with”
Jack was stunned for a moment. Staring at Gabriel who had gotten up to pace midway through his story. That’s what the problem was? He got up to gently hold the other’s shoulders to still him and give his mate an incredulous look.
“Gabe. That is the single most asinine statement I’ve ever heard.” He took the man in his arms and buried his face in his neck. “If you think the only reason I loved you was because of sex… then I was a terrible mate.” Jack wanted to tell Gabriel how much he hurt without him. Wanted to explain that life had no meaning to him between hunting down Talon agents, because they had taken him away from him. But all that talk would be for later. “I love you for you, Gabriel. I still do. I never stopped.”
His hand moved to cup the other’s bearded chin in his hands before pulling him into a kiss. It started gentle, lips pressed sweetly together. Hands gliding over fabric clutching at the body underneath it like it would disappear in a moment. And then it became more needy. Tongues slipping together before he trailed kisses down to his neck.
Gabe felt foolish. He wanted this as much as Jack. Missed him in equal measure. He kissed back as his heart swelled just as it used to when Jack filled all his senses. It didn’t matter that the alpha’s pheromones wouldn’t drive him feral like they used to. The feel of his hand on his chest, the other stroking him through his pants, was enough to get Gabe panting as he pulled at Jack’s shirt. Without another worry or doubt in his mind he led them to his bedroom.
The room was large, clean, and under furnished. There was only a dresser to the right of the door and a full sized bed on a simple wooden frame with a single nightstand on the far wall. Their clothes were shed haphazardly, like leaves in autumn in between kisses as they made their way to the bed.
Gabriel sat on the edge, his hands on Jack’s hips, looking him up at him with hungry deep brown eyes. It seemed the explosion was as detrimental to Jack as it had been for himself. The soldier was paler than he was before with many small and medium sized scars most likely caused by shrapnel. Some larger ones were cleaner and obviously the result of stitches. He couldn’t see all the nicks on his face because of the electronic visor that fitted across Jack’s eyes. Gabriel couldn’t remember what color they were or what their gaze felt like and he desperately wanted a reminder. But when he reached for the band Jack gently stopped him by entwining their hands.
“I’m not the same either. Without this, I can’t see you,” he said, kissing Gabe’s fingers, letting his tongue glide over them, to taste the salty skin. He gave a wicked smile as he pressed him down into the bed. “But don’t worry. You’re as hot as ever.”
A passionate kiss and bitten lips and the air filled with Jack’s pungent pheromones. The scent was metallic like charcoal, with a molasses-like undertone that Gabriel could almost taste. It was a different thrill to inhale his scent and not delve into an instinctual haze. His skin felt charged and everywhere Jack touched was a white snap of pleasure. When his mate had kissed his way down to his already erect and leaking cock, skillfully taking his entire length down his throat, Gabe had no hope of stifling his moan. Not that he felt he needed to, nor did he want to. Not while Jack worked more fervently to service his dick with tongue and throat at the sound of his breathy cries. His base grew tight and he was so close, but it was far too soon. Gabriel loosed a growl as he used all his willpower to pull Jack off of him. The old soldier seemed displeased himself until Gabriel turned over, opened his bedside drawer and handed him a half used up bottle of synthetic slick.
Jack was having a hard time being patient. He felt the sweat beading on his skin and clenched his jaw to control himself. Gabriel’s scent, while faint, was driving him crazy as he slowly worked a finger into his mate. The thing that had surprised him most— aside from the box of synthetic slick and toys the other kept in the nightstand— was how malleable he was, quickly able to take two fingers with only the help of a little slick.
“Damn… just like old times.” Jack purred as Gabriel sighed into the sheets bucking back on him. It was easy to insert a third and stretch the tight rim in preparation for what came next. “Don’t tell me you’ve let someone else touch you?”
“It was two years, hun.” Gabriel smiled wryly, playing into Jack’s possessiveness. It paid off with him pulling on the sheets in pain spiked pleasure as the alpha pushed entirely inside with a growl. Before he could revel in the feeling, Jack pulled out leaving him to give the other a desperate look over his shoulder. “Jack!”
A smirk crossed the old soldier’s face as he flipped Gabriel so he was on his back. Relishing in the sight of his flushed face, toned muscle, and erect cock. Jack lined himself up with Gabe’s hole and bent down to kiss him as he plunged back in. His thrusts were short, but deep so he could relish the feel of his lover’s tight hot insides squeezing him. Gabriel looked every bit as sinful as he used to underneath Jack. Although now the old soldier could see their heat. The white hot coil already threatening to release in Gabe gave away that the last two years had been lonely for him as well.
Suddenly Gabriel grabbed Jack’s shoulders, pulling him down and using the momentum to flip them. “Too slow.” He growled and rocked his hips at a desperate pace. Jack let pleasured moans freely fall in breaths of hot air as each thrust felt to drive him deeper inside his alpha. He could see the heat building at the base of Gabe’s cock as it bounced between them. His own knot was beginning to swell and he knew he couldn’t hold much longer.
“I’m going to knot you. Fill you up. And later you can fill me.” Jack purred, his breath heady as he sat up and grabbed the other’s ass to pull him into his lap. One hand held Gabe’s ass as the other stroked his length while Jack wildly thrust into him. Then as his knot popped fully, driven deep with a final intentional thrust and locking him inside, he filled his mate with his seed. He teethed at their bond mark as a weave of euphoria— sheer bliss he hadn’t felt since before the explosion—made his body shiver. Mine! He couldn’t tell if he had actually said it from the snarl that escaped him.
Gabriel groaned in pained pleasure, feeling his mate’s knot swell and catch on his rim before being buried inside and stretching him wide. God did he miss this. “Fuck..” his fingers clung to Jack’s shoulders leaving marks in his back, his vision going white as he bit over Jack’s scent gland and came, painting the skin between them. His knot didn’t swell to the size it used to anymore, but it didn’t diminish his love drunk feeling as Jack’s war calloused hands held him tight and milked him for every drop.
The lustful heat from their coupling ebbed to a contented warmth as they laid locked together. The soft black sheets were stained, their skin was sticky, and they were both indescribably happy to have each other again.
