An Unusual Solution

Summary:

However, it was not long after, before Wyatt queried once more. "What's so special about Addams? She always seems to be giving you the cold shoulder, but you seem to always be by her side regardless. You know, if I was your boyfriend, I would never treat you like that."

Enid's patience was wearing thin. Sure Wednesday was kind of scary on the outside, but once you got to know her she was actually quite sweet. Even now, she finally tolerated Enid, and was not opposed to touch from her, which was usually a big no-no to most, even her family. What was Wyatt's deal with Wednesday? Was he… jealous of her?

"Fine, do you want to know what's so special about Wednesday?" Enid waits for Wyatt to nod before continuing. "W-We're dating." She blurts out.

Shit.

-OR-

In order to get a persistent student to back down and accept her rejection, Enid lies about being with Wednesday. Now, she has to get Wednesday to go along with her plan.

(TLDR : The wenclair fake dating fic)

Chapter 1: A Small Lie

Notes:

Hello! This is my first fic in the fandom. Hopefully this isn't too badly written.

I'm not sure if Wednesday's dialogue is accurate but i hope she's not too out of character.

Sorry for the short chapter, but this is just the set up. I'm not sure if I'll actually finish this fic and how long the other chapters will be, but I hope you'll stick around for it!

Anyways, hope you enjoy!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"You really didn't need to walk me back to my dorm." A familiar voice is heard as the door to their room creaked open.

Wednesday was currently engrossed in a book she had just started. Usually, she wouldn't bat an eye to hearing her roommate's voice, but when a second pair of footsteps, along with a hushed whisper was heard, she was annoyed.

She couldn't believe Enid would bring someone over to their room during her reading time. She tossed her book onto the desk, and looked up, catching a glimpse of her roommate who was half way into their shared room.

Enid seemed to be uncomfortable. She was leaning away from the unknown person, while using her body to block the entrance, as though she didn't want the individual to go inside. Moreover, her smile seemed to be false. Wednesday could recognise the telltale signs. She couldn't see the usual sparkle in her roommate's eyes. She was only smiling with her mouth. Combined with her body language, Enid was definitely uneasy.

Something was up.

"It's fine, I don't mind," a voice of a man appears. "Would you like to hangout? We could do it in your dorm."

"Maybe another time, I'm really tired after all that research for the project." Enid replies, scratching her neck.

"You sure? I'm sure we could have some fun." The man persists, placing his hand on her shoulder.

Enid shrugs his hand off, and mutters, "yes, I'm sure, sorry. Besides, guys aren't allowed to be in the girl's dorms."

This interaction was quite odd. Something was off about it and it made Wednesday's skin creep. She decided to intervene. "Sinclair. Who is this?"

The two students looked at Wednesday who had walked over, not noticing her before. "Oh, Wednesday! I forgot you were here. This is Wyatt."

Wyatt reaches out his hand with a smile, "Hey. Me and Enid are partners for our botany project. We were just discussing the content before this. "

Wednesday decides to ignore the hand. "Well, you've just interrupted my reading time. I would appreciate it if you could take your leave before I make you."

He takes his hand back and asks, "uhm, Enid, your roommate's not serious right?"

"Don't worry she's probably just joking." Enid assures him. "But Wednesday's right, I think it's time for you to go ba—"

Before Enid could continue, Wednesday steps forward, and slams the door shut.

"Wednesday! What was that for?" Enid exclaims.

"He was being a nuisance." The psychic crosses her arms and walks back to her desk to continue reading. "If you'll excuse me, I'll return to my reading."

"You can't just slam the door on people!"

"I do not see the problem. You were uncomfortable with his presence,so I got rid of him."

"Well that still doesn't give you the right to do that!" Enid huffs, before walking over to her colourful bed, and flopping down on it.

Silence once again filled the shared room. Wednesday places down her book yet again, preparing for the onslaught of complaints. Although it seemed like Enid had given up on talking, she would soon start to rant about the situation.

"I can't stand Wyatt!"

There it was.

"Every single day we've been working on this project, he keeps pestering me to go out with him!" Enid scoffs. "Everytime I reject him, he doubles his efforts! I'm sick of hearing his not so subtle love confessions."

"Do you require me to talk to him? I'm sure he'll stay away from you once he has a look at my knife collection."

"No! You are not going to hurt him." Enid jerks upright. "We're working on a graded project together, I can't do it alone."

"Can't you simply inform him that you are currently in a relationship with the Gorgon boy?"

"Ajax? We broke up over the break, so I am single now."

"My apologies. I did not know." Wednesday turns around, giving Enid a nod.

"It's fine, we decided we were better off as friends." She shrugs. "You know what, all I have to do is survive two more weeks with him, and I'll be free."

"I wish you the best of luck." Wednesday turns back to her desk, and yet again picks up her book.

Silence soon consumes the room again, as the two begin to be absorbed by their own activities. Wednesday finally manages to get through the first chapter, while Enid, now relaxed from ranting, updates her blog.

Before they both knew it, the sun soon sets and they both settled in for the night.

—————

"Hey Enid, over here." Wyatt waves from a table in the library.

She waves back and takes a seat across from him.

The two begin their discussions and delegating of tasks. While Enid is scribbling away on a piece of paper, the boy suddenly asks, "Enid, are you okay? You seem a bit under the weather today."

She looks up from the paper. "Hm? Oh, I'm fine. I just didn't sleep well last night."

"Is it because of your roommate?" He questions again. "Wednesday Addams right? I hear she's really creepy. Is it true?"

"Nope. She's actually really sweet once you get to know her." Enid picks up her pencil again. "I was thinking we could base our research on plants used for medicinal purposes. We could talk about their origins, uses and how it came about to be used medicinally. How does that sound?"

"Are you sure? She's not hurting you or anything right?" Wyatt persists, ignoring Enid's previous question.

"What? Why would she hurt me?"

"Everyone I know says she's a freak. We've all heard the rumors. If she ever gives you trouble, just let me know."

Enid couldn't believe the audacity of Wyatt to insult her roommate right in front of her. "Did you not hear me? She's never harmed me in any way. Can we just focus on our project?"

"Alright, alright calm down. I was just making sure." He hushes her, looking down back to the paper like he was suddenly interested in the project. "I'm fine with that idea. We could choose which plants to focus on first and start from there? We could maybe do some basic ones like aloe vera, turmeric and pepper. We could also include chebulic myrobalan? I've heard it can be used as a gargle for sore throats. I'm sure there's books all about these plants in the library."

Enid nods and they both continue their discussions.

Shit. Why did she come up with such an excuse? It was too late to take back her answer, so she decided to go along with it.

Wyatt's eyes widened. "What? Aren't you guys just roommates? "

"Well we are roommates but we're also dating." Enid shrugs, going along with the lie. "Wednesday is a pretty private person, so we've been keeping it a secret."

"O-Oh. I just didn't think you'd swing that way." He stammers, different from his usual confident look.

"Is there anything wrong with that?"

"No! Of course not." He immediately responds. "Why tell me though?"

"Well I trust you can keep it a secret. You wouldn't tell anyone right?"

"Your secret is safe with me, don't worry." He smiles.

"Thank you." Enid heaved a sigh of relief.

Finally, they continue their work, beginning to narrow down their research. Wyatt at long last, had given up on the countless questions about Wednesday. He mostly added suggestions here and there, focused on their work. They were definitely making quite the progress now. Maybe these two weeks would pass by quickly.

Perhaps Enid spoke too soon. Wyatt glanced up, before looking back up again. "Look who it is. Why don't you go say hello?"

Enid turns around, only to notice Wednesday in the distance, browsing a bookshelf.

Oh no. Why did Wednesday have to be here now of all time?

"I'd rather we focus on the project instead. Besides, I'll see her later." Enid prays that Wyatt would back down.

"No, no I insist. Plus, we're about done for the day anyways." Was Wyatt trying to see if the two were actually together? Why did he have to be so persistent? It was probably too late now to give up.

Enid gulps, trying to keep her voice down. "Hey Wednesday!" Maybe she wouldn't hear Enid at all.

To her dismay, Wednesday glanced behind and spotted Enid. She walked over.

"Did you need something?"

"Well, I just wanted to say hello to my amazing girlfriend! How are you today? I didn't know you went to the library at these hours." Enid fakes a smile, hoping that Wyatt would fall for her act.

She gets up to face Wednesday.

The library was quiet at this hour and their table was in a secluded spot. She takes a quick glance around, not noticing anyone.

Wednesday looked confused at the words coming out of Enid's mouth." Wh—"

Before questions could be asked by her roommate, Enid stepped forward, closing the distance between them, and kissed her. Wednesday was going to kill her for this.

They're lips stayed connected for quite some time. Surprisingly, Wednesday did not push her away, nor did she pull out any of her weapons. However, she seemed incredibly stiff, like she was a concrete statue. This was definitely worrying.

Enid could feel eyes on her. Why wasn't Wyatt saying anything?

She doesn't know how long they kissed before Wyatt eventually cuts them off. "Uhm, Enid?"

The two pull apart, both softly panting. Wednesday was still zoned out and not moving.

She kicks Wednesday in the foot before quickly whispering. "Please go along with it." Wednesday shakes her head, as though she had been knocked out of her trance. Though, she keeps quiet.

"Sorry. I got carried away. Did you have anything else you wanted to discuss for the project? " Enid hurriedly replies.

"No, I think we can stop here for now." He pauses before adding, "also, are you coming to the party this weekend? Why don't you two come have some fun together?"

Enid vaguely remembers Yoko telling her about it.

"Wednesday isn't really a big fan of social events." Enid answers, silently wishing that Wyatt would let it go.

But of course, he persists like usual. "Come on, I'm sure it'll be fun. Everyone's going. You don't want to miss out do you? Plus, maybe I could get to know your girlfriend better. "

Enid curses Wyatt in her head for not knowing when to give up. "I'll think about it."

"Great! I'll see you this weekend then." He grins, packing up his stuff before taking his leave.

Wednesday, still as silent as ever, nods before taking her leave as well once Wyatt is gone.

Deciding to respect Wednesday's boundaries, Enid does not follow her. Instead, she wanders around the school, but never returns back to the dorm. She would be lying if she said she wasn't scared Wednesday was planning her murder right now. Also, Enid didn't know how to explain what happened in the library.

It was only at curfew did she return to the room. She slowly turns the door knob, pushing the door open lightly.

"You're back later than usual." A voice appears, making Enid flinch.

Looking up, it was Wednesday, who was standing in the middle of their shared room.

"I had some things to do." She lies.

"Did you? Or was it because you kissed me in front of that idiot?"

Enid was terrified right now. Most of the other students would agree that Wednesday was scary. Her usual stoic expression, combined with a glare, often made her seem unapproachable. That was how she looked like right now.

"Please don't murder me."

"Sinclair." Wednesday crossed her arms.

"I'm sorry!" Enid gives in. "Wyatt wouldn't leave me alone again so I panicked and said that I was dating you. You seemed like you were going to expose me so I kissed you to shut you up. Please don't kill me in my sleep."

"I see. If you ever pull such stunts again, do let me know in advance."

To Enid's surprise, Wednesday seemed completely fine with it. She didn't even threaten her at all. What was happening?

"Wait, you don't mind?" Enid asks, stunned.

"I am quite used to your reckless behavior by now." The psychic walks towards Enid. "I do not mind acting as your supposed significant other."

"Really?" Enid was indeed shocked at how easily Wednesday agreed with the idea.

"Enid. I am indebted to you after you saved me from Tyler. I will go along with this plan, as long as you agree to my terms."

"Of course, anything!" Enid was desperate for this to work at this point. She couldn't stand Wyatt anymore, and this idea seemed to make him back off.

"No playing your 'unique' music in our dormitory after 4pm. That is all I ask of you."

"I promise!" Enid agreed immediately. It was such a simple request.

"You're a lifesaver Wends!" Enid goes over to Wednesday, and gives her a hug. It lasted exactly 3 seconds, which was what Wednesday had agreed on. Enid respects this rule and always pulls away after those 3 seconds.

Wednesday nods. "Now if you will excuse me, I believe it is my writing time."

Enid couldn't believe it. Wednesday wasn't going to murder her after all. And now, Wyatt wouldn't bother her anymore. She actually pulled it off!

Maybe this wouldn't be a disaster after all.

Notes:

The end! Kudos and comments on how I can improve/suggestions are appreciated!

Hopefully at least one of you enjoys this!

The next chapter will be the party.
