Chapter Text
His dojo was surprisingly quiet when Macaque entered, not that he was expecting anything different of course, it was usually quiet and empty, but for some reason after coming back from your place, the emptiness seemed jarring. Macaque ignored the odd detail and walked into the small room he called his bedroom, it was a pathetic excuse of one, especially compared to yours which was filled to the brim of little details about your life, photos of a younger version of yourself (he took note that none of the photos seemed to have any possible family members in them) , old items that were obviously from your childhood, some plastic trophies and medals from middle or elementary school. But his was bare, filled with no memories. He found it odd how he missed your characterized room.
He shook away those thoughts as he sat down on his bed with an exhausted sigh. He wasn’t tired, not by a long shot, but his emotions held some sort of exhaustion over him, especially when those emotions were tied to you. When he first met you, his main emotion was pity, how could it not be? When you sitting on the cold floor, pale, thin, and obviously exhausted. But now, whenever he was around you, his emotions turned into more complicated ones. Still holding pity, yet sometimes even edging on the border of genuine care.
That thought made Macaque’s eyes widen. Care? Him? You? Of course not. He chalked it up to a more genuine feeling of pity, maybe even empathy. He knew how traumatizing the Lady Bone Demon was, and just taking a look at you it was clear that you were in fact, traumatized. He couldn’t blame you of course, being used as a vessel to hurt that ones that you cared about.
Still, that didn’t explain why he was so drawn to you. Hell, tonight he came to check up on you because just your heartbeat was beating faster than normal. He didn’t know why he did that and it confused him. He sat on his bed for a few more moments, racking his brain on what it could be. But when he came out short, he let out a short huff and dragged a hand over his face. Now, he had to admit, maybe it was care.
Not deep care of course, he didn’t even know that much about you, and even if he did he doubted his feelings would grow to be more than just slight care. He decided that he must’ve just grown use to you. Like- if someone was around a loud area they would slowly get accustomed to the loud noise, and when they go to a quieter place, the quiet would be startling and odd. You were the loud noise in his life and he, albeit against his will, had gotten used to you.
——-
Much to your discontent, you weren’t able to fall asleep after Macaque left. So here you were, laying on your back on top of your bed , staring at the ceiling and questioning all of your life choices. You tilted your head slightly to look at Mk’s drawing that was securely taped onto your wall. Your eyes were drawn to the poorly drawn macaque in the picture.
You feel your brows furrow as you look at the macaque in the drawing, his smile was wide and you made yourself chuckle as you tried to imagine the real macaque smiling like that. Come to think of it, you don’t think you’ve ever seen him smile besides when he was teasing you or someone else. You jolted up when you heard a small scratching noise and you sat up to find Leo clawing at the door, obviously wanting out. You looked up from the door to the clock that clumsily hung above it. Seeing the time, you startle up and rush to the door, swinging it open to let Leo rush down the stairs. You look back up at the clock with a bewildered look, just how long did you and Macaque talk with each other?
As Leo reaches the first floor’s ground you shut the door once more and turn around, heading towards your dresser and finding clothes that were at least decent for work. Curse pigsy and his strict dress code. You opt to shower later in the day, knowing that if you did now it would take to much of your time and Pigsy would be even more mad. You run a quick hand through your hair as you clumsily put your shoes on, hopping towards the door on one foot as the other foot was up in the air as your tried to tie your shoe. Finally they were securely tied on and you all but ran down the stairs, already making up excuses to give to Pigsy for being late.
You skidded around the corner of the wall that separated the stairs from the restaurant scanning the room for the pig demon. You stop in your tracks as you realize the main dining room was…empty. You looked up at the ancient clock that hung above the counter of the restaurant. Shouldn’t this place be open by now? Pigsy is almost never late to opening…
But before panic could start setting in you heard a loud crash coming from the kitchen, followed by the familiar noise of Pigsy’s yells. You couldn’t help but let out a short chuckle as you hear Tangs voice filled with panic, trying to calm Pigsy down. “Ah! Uh- Pigsy! Calm down it’s okay! Wa-wait Pigsy no! No Pigsy, put the cat down!” They really did sound like an old married couple, didn’t they?
You walk up to the counter and swing open the small gate like door that separated the back of the counter and the restaurant. As you walked into the kitchen your eyes widen and your shoulders quickly rose to your ears, trying to make yourself as small as possible as a bowl quickly flew past your vision.
“Oh, thank the great sage equal to heaven. (Y/n), you’re here! Could you- uh heh, maybe help?” Your head swung to your right to see Mk who wore a sheepish smile as Leo hung from his elbows in Mk’s arms.
“What’s even happening?! Pigsy’s never late to open the restaurant!” You exclaim with a bewildered look which quickly turned into one that was akin to a deer in the headlights as Pigsy spoke up from your left behind you. “What happened?! I’ll tell ya what happened! That cat of yours knocked over the pot of noodles! Now I have to make them all over again!”
You wince at the explanation and glance over at Leo who was still in Mk’s arms. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have let him out before me…it won’t happen again.” “It better not! Thanks to that cat of yours, you’re going to help me make the rest of those noodles!” You deflated at his words but nodded nonetheless. “That’s fair.” From your right Mk spoke up curiously.
“Wait- isnt Leo suppose to be with Macaque? When did he even get here?” Your eyes widen at the question. Your gaze travels down towards Leo and then back to Mk, trying to find an excuse he would believe.
“Oh uh- I don’t know! Maybe he just knows the way here and came here? …alone? …without…macaque?” It was definitely a question more than a statement and you heard Pigsy scoff in the background at the poorly made excuse. Unlike Pigsy, Mk seemed to believe you. He lit up and looked down at Leo with a wide smile. “Awwwe, you’re so smart!” He said to the cat in a way you would speak to a baby. Either Leo couldn’t understand him or he did and didn’t care, since the cat refused to look at Mk, instead opting to struggle in his grasp, clearly wanting down.
Mk seemed to understand and looked up at Tang and Pigsy. “I’m uh- gonna take Leo out of the kitchen, heh.” Tang nodded and followed Mk out of the kitchen. You were about to follow before you felt a hand grab you by the wrist. You turn around to see Pigsy stoping you from leaving the kitchen, a stern look of curiosity plastered on his face.
“Kid- you have a moment?” You look to Mk and Tang and then back at Pigsy, stepping further into the kitchen next to him. “Uh- if this is about Leo- I’m sure I can ask Sandy for some tips? Maybe he has like- a spray bottle or something that you can use!” You try to mimic the action of using a spray bottle, ignoring the unimpressed looked Pigsy wore.
“It’s- it’s not about that.” Pigsy sighs as he crosses his arms. “Kid, you ain’t foolin anyone with the whole Macaque thing-“ before he could continue you both heard Mk speak up from the dining room. “Wow, it sure is convenient that Leo came here all by himself with no help from Macaque, huh Mr.Tang?” Pigsy slaps a hand to his face. As the hand slowly lowers he looks up to you. “You may have fooled Mk.”
You awkwardly rub the back of your neck while looking anywhere but Pigsy. Crap- you forgot how observant the pig demon was… “I- Okay, Macaque maaaay have came over last night. Just to drop Leo off I swear!” You waved your hands frantically in front of Pigsy seeing an expression of anger mixed with slight concern wash over his face. “What!? And why is this the first I’m hearing bout this? He’s a criminal y/n- a literal murder, and you just let him in??” You wince as his voice raises, starting to feel guilty (with a slight hint of anger).
You start to fiddle with your hands. “Look- I didn’t really have time to tell you! And- yeah, sure, he may have killed people before which…is a bit of a red flag- but…he helped me out with the Lady Bone Demon thing and…and I feel like I owe him at least something for that.”
Pigsy’s angry expression grew even more angrier, although this time, not at you, but at Macaque. “Oh, so he’s using your guilt against you? Manipulating you? Oh when I get to him I swear-“ you cut him off by waving your hands in his face in a panicked motion. “W-What?! No, no! That’s not it!” Pigsy sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose before looking back up to you. “Believe me (Y/n), whatever Macaque said to you, it ain’t true!” This time it was your turn to be angry. Your shoulders tense and your hands form into fists by your sides.
“He didn’t say anything! Is it so hard to believe I can make my own decisions?!” “When it comes to him? yes!” You scoffed and crossed your arms, looking anywhere but at Pigsy as he continues. “I know he helped you once, but how do you know he didn’t do that just for your trust, just to get your guard down?” You shot a glare his way.
“Because I know that he wouldn’t put that much work into me! I know I don’t have powers, I’m technically useless on the battlefield, and I know he knows that! So why would he put that much work into me if I’m relatively useless!” Pigsy hesitates for a moment at your harsh tone and somewhat self destructive words before he shot you a glare similar to your own.
“Maybe, he’s using you to get to us? To Mk?” You throw your arms up in the air in frustration, being sure to avoid accidentally hitting Pigsy even through your anger. “We all know Mk is the most trusting out of all of us, why would he do all that if he can just go straight to Mk, we all know Mk would forgive him almost immediately! Hell, Mk probably even knows that!”
Pigsy hesitates yet again, obviously finding your words to be at least a bit true. But of course, Pigsy is too damn determined and stubborn to loose an argument. “What has gotten to you (Y/n)? Just given your trust away so easily?” Your shoulder tense somehow even more, winning you cramps in your arms in the morning.
You look down at the Pig with a red face, glare fighting his own. “I’m not giving him free trust! I’m not giving him a one way ticket to get to us! But i am giving him a chance! Like how we gave Wukong a chance, how we gave RedSon a chance, how you guys gave me a chance!” You knew it was dirty. You knew it was dirty bringing up your past, before Mk found the staff, before you got possessed.
But it proved to be the right decision (or at least the winning decision) as Pigsy takes a step back, his hard and thick shoes making a loud ‘Tap!’ which echoed through the now dead silent kitchen. Seeing his guilty expression made guilt seep into yourself. You look away, suddenly finding anything other than Pigsy interesting.
Your fists loosened before tightening again, great, just great, of course you had to say that and hurt Pigsy even more. The room stayed silent as you two refused to look at each other, mulling over your own thoughts. The only thing you could hear was your fast heartbeat (probably from the high adrenaline and all the yelling) and some muffled noise outside that sounded awfully similar to yelling. …wait yelling?
You perk up at the noise and snap your head to the wall closest to the street. Seeing your sudden movements, Pigsy follows your gaze and quickly stiffens, probably hearing all the commotion too. “What the hell-“ you were interrupted by Mk yelling loudly from outside. “aaaaAAAAAH!” As his voice got closer the left wall of the kitchen broke open. For a split second you saw Mk laying in the debris with a dizzy and dazed expression. Was…was he freaking thrown into the wall?! You felt rubble hit the side your arms as both you and Pigsy cover your eyes from debris with your forearms. As the debris settled down you lower your hands and rush to Mk, Pigsy quickly following after you.
“Mk! What the hell?! Are you okay?” You exclaim while falling to your knees and checking him over for any damage. “Uh yeah-“ His sentence got cut by a wheezing cough that made you wince. “I feel like I just got thrown into a wall by an oversized Winnie the Pooh, but yeah overall I don’t feel terrible!” It was Pigsy’s turn to check Mk over. “What!? What the hell do you mean by tha-“ he was once again interrupted by yet another loud yell from a familiar voice.
“aaaaAAAAH” the wall right next to the already broken wall broke open as well , revealing Mei who also was thrown. As Pigsy grieved over his walls and tugged on his ears in distress. you rushed towards Mei. As you neared, you noticed her arms were covered in scratch marks, large ones too. You fell to your knees next to her, checking her over just like you did with Mk. Besides the scratches she seemed relatively okay, although you fully noted that she didn’t have her sword on her.
As you lifted her into a sitting position she started to rub her head which was probably throbbing by the collision. What or who could be strong enough to throw Mei of all people?
You quirk a brow and look through the hole in the wall, unable to see anything with the dust from the recent broken walls blocking the way. You were about to turn back to Mei when a glint of a familiar blue caught your eye.
You swiveled your head back around to the broken wall, trying to find the light again, instead, you spotted a large silhouette almost as big as the second floor of Pigsy’s Noodles. Your eyes widen and you turned towards Mei while shaking her shoulders (which probably didn’t help with her head).
“Mei what the hell is that?!” Mei looked up at the silhouette as well still rubbing her sore head. “A bear.” You deflate and give her a deadpan. “Well obviously! But bears aren’t suppose to be that big!” You said, waving your hands towards the towering silhouette. Finally, Mei stood up, dusting the debris from her pants and jacket. “We think Yin and Jin gave it some super food to make it big or something…or!” She paused for dramatics before turning towards you with a wide smile. “We have a new arch nemesis! Maybe it’s like- an evil zookeeper or something! Or maybe it’s the bear itself!”
You stand up next to her while giving her a weirded out look. “Why do you sound so excited about that?” She opened her mouth to reply but it quickly clamped shut and her eyes widened as she spot something behind you. “Watch out!” She not so gently tugged at your arm, bringing both of you to the floor once again as a large clawed, paw swiped through the opening in the wall. The paw slinked back outside when it wasn’t able to reach anything. You eyes widened and your voice cracked as you spoke. “Guessing that’s Pooh?” “YUP!” Mk spoke up, making you notice he was rushing towards you and Mei with Pigsy close behind.
As he helped Mei up and Pigsy grabbed you from under your arm pit and lifted you up, Mei and Mk started talking quietly. “Did you call-“ “Sandy? Yup! He’ll be here soon!” Mk responded. You all jumped up at a distant growl coming from the huge bear. “…hopefully.”
“Pigsy!!!!” Said another voice, coming closer and closer until the owner of the voice collided into Pigsy. “Ugh! What is it with us falling to the floor today?” You heard Pigsy grumble angrily as Tang happily hugs the pig, relived that he wasn’t hurt. You let out an amused huff as you helped both of them up.
Just as you did so you all heard a car honk that sounded suspiciously close to a cat’s meow. Mei and Mk gasp happily as Sandy drives his high-tech vehicle up to you all (accidentally crashing a whole NEW hole in the wall, causing Pigsy to yell in dispare. ) “Sandy!!” They yelled out happily as if he was driving an ice cream truck instead of the T.E.A. (Total Environment Automobile)
Sandy happily chuckled with closed eyes. “Heh, hey kiddos!” His eyes shot open at another loud growl in the distance and he looked over at the large bear which finally noticed you all. “Alright, time to get in, gang! You wanna drive Pigsy?” Pigsy grumbled something unintelligible under his breath but nonetheless traded seats with Sandy as you and the others got in the back.
You grunted as you and Mei tugged close the large, metal back doors of the van, both of you falling to your asses when the door was securely closed. Mei gave Pigsy a thumbs up and the engine quickly shot to life. As the van started to quickly drive away from the large bear (which roared after you all) you looked up to Tang with your brows furrowed. “Uh Tang, your the smart one right? Do you, uh I dunno, know why there’s a GINORMOUS BEAR OUT THERE?!” Tang startled at the rise of your voice but calmed back down when you sat with him along the left side of the wall.
Tang hummed in thought, rubbing his chin as his glasses suddenly gain a cartoonish glint to them. “Hmmm…I…have absolutely no idea…” It took you a full minute to process what he said, with the way he said it, it sounded like he was giving you all the knowledge the universe had to offer. You gave him a deadpan look before Mk spoke up. “That’s okay! That only means that it’s time to be…Smartie Kid!”
You turn to Mk with a somewhat forced smile. “Mk, that’s appreciated- but I doubt the huge bear currently chasing us has anything to do with triangles.” Ignoring your words, Mk sits on the ground of the trailer with his hands to his temples, eyes closed in concentration. “A squared plus B squared is C squared… and C is the hypotenuse- which is ALSO the biggest side!” Mk suddenly gasps, standing up from the floor. “Biggest! Big! That’s what the bear is! The bear is big! Which means that there must be and A and B helping the bear get as big as it is!” You give Mk a look. “…what?” You ask while tilting your head to the side as your brows furrow. Mk opens his mouth- seemingly going to repeat his last words but was interrupted by a loud growl coming from behind you all.
You all stiffen at the noise, the growl sending shivers down your spine as Mei rushes to the front of the van to look out the window. She shoved Pigsy out of the way as she peeked out- causing the truck to swivel wildly before Pigsy got his footing again with a yell directed towards Mei. Ignoring the pig demon, Mei brought her head back in with her eyes wide. “Uuuuhhh guys? The bear might be following us and is getting closer by the second-“ yet another growl erupted from the beat before she could finish- this time your could hear that the animal was close. Really close.
You grip onto Tangs arms and refrain jumping into them as the car suddenly bumps up and down. You soon realized it was the beat that was causing the ground to shake. Was it really that big? You slowly look towards Mei who was pressing herself against the wall across you and Tang.
“Uh Mei- how close exactly was the beaaAAAH-“ a scream tore its way out of your lips before you could finish as the back doors of the van started to get torn apart by the bear. You felt Tang’s arms wrap around you just as yours were around him as claws tore through the vans door as if it was paper. The door finally snapped off and the van erupted into screams- you and Tang holding onto each other like life lines, Mk and Mei pushing themselves against the vans walls and Pigsy and Sandy were staring wide eyed at the bear from the front.
The van sped up as the bear stumbled over the newly torn door. Slowing down and giving you all time to take a breather and calm down- “WHAT THE FUCK?!” You yelled out, starting frozen and wide eyed at the now torn entrance of the Van. You did a double take when you looked to your left and saw Mk on the other side of the van and waved your arms around wildly.
“Dude! You’re the monkey kid! Can’t you just turn into… I dunno a bigger bear? Or at least stab it with the staff or something???” As Mk stayed silent, looking awkwardly to the side you started to panic. “Mk!” “Okay, okay, okay! I left the staff at the restaurant okay?!” You stare jaw dropped at the young man as Tang started to hyperventilate. You patted tangs back as your facial expression stayed the same, staring at Mk with a flabbergasted expression.
“Look, I panicked okay? I wasn’t really expecting a huge bear to come out of nowhere and attack us! But it’s fine! Who needs monkie kid what you have… smartie ki-“ “we don’t need smartie kid, kid!” You all heard Pigsy yell from the front. You finally spoke up. “How the hell did you forget it?! Don’t you keep it in your ear or something??” “Well sorry I don’t sleep with a stick in my ear! It’s uncomfortable and I forgot to bring it with me!!”
You opened your mouth, ready to argue with him even more before Tang interrupted you by yelling loudly into your ear. “GUYS?!” You looked to him and he pointed to the opening of the T.E.A. You following his hand to see the bear getting closer and closer to the van yet again. Mei finally spoke up from her place against the wall, spotting the bear coming back. “Pigsy!!!” The pig twisted his head around to shoot a short and quick glare to the dragon girl before bringing his focus back to the road. “Working on it!”
As the bear got closer and closer to you all (roaring and growling the whole time) Tang yelled louder in your ear, causing you to wince. You pry him off of you and rush to the front of the vehicle, hand gripping onto the back of Sandy’s seat tightly as you looked around the front wildly for something that could help.
Your eyes landed on a metal bat that was leaning against the wall, right behind Pigsy’s seat. It was a gift from Mei after the LBD incident, she wanted you to have a way to protect yourself and insisted that it was brand new, although all of you knew that it was just her old bat with a poorly new paint job.
You grabbed the bat by the handle and swung your head around as you heard another yell from Tang who was now pushing himself against the wall like Mei and Mk, unable to grip onto you anymore. You looked to the opening of the T.E.A., having to squint your eyes to stop the dust from the disturbed road getting in your eyes. They widened as you saw the bear gripping onto the floor of the van by its mouth, feet awkwardly stumbling behind it. The bear was tightening its grip by the second, the metal of the floor crunching easily under the weight of the bears sharp teeth.
Feeling a burst of adrenaline rush through your veins, you run towards the bear as you gripped onto the bat harder. As you got close enough to the bear (close enough for it to easily bite your head off, you duly noted) you stopped running, moving all of the momentum from your legs to to your arms as you swung as hard as you could right in the bears face.
As you did so the familiar sound of a portal opening came from the same wall Mei and Mk were squeezed against. “Hey y/n? Yeah, Leo came to my place but I thought he was suppose to be at yours so I just wanted to see if everything was- what the actual fuck.”
You looked behind you, breathing heavily from the sudden use of energy, to find Macaque. Only the top half of his body was able to be seen coming out of the shadow portal he summoned and you could see Leo hanging from Macaques arms awkwardly. You brought your attention to his face to see his lips slightly parted and his brows furrowed, obviously confused on why there was ginormous bear currently biting into Sandy’s van and why your were next to said bear and had a bat in your hands which was currently crushing into the bears nose bridge.
Bringing your attention back to said bear when it whimpered and howled in pain and let go of the van, letting it you all speed ahead for a moment. You stared out of the van for a moment at the bear, still panting heavily. You could tell the others were doing the same, some shaking in fear (tang) while some were only flabbergasted at your sudden act of violence (everyone else). After a moment of only staring at the bear, which was crouched down on the quickly receding ground, pawing at its nose in pain, you turned your head around to Pigsy.
“Pigsy hurry this van the hell up!” You yelled and instead of the retort you were expecting, the pig only nodded dumbfounded and brought his attention to the road again as the van sped up. You then brought your attention to the wall on the right to see Macaque slowly sinking back into the shadow portal with a blank expression. You drop your bat, which emits a loud ‘CLANG’, and you rush over to him and get a hold onto his scarf, stopping him from sinking further into the shadows.
“Uh- yeah, no you ain’t leaving!.” You grunt before you tug on his scarf, causing him to fall out of the portal and land directly on top of you. You both let out a small grunt at the collision and you lightly push him off. “What the hell is that?!” Macaque yells, pointing to the opening of the van. You follow his hand to see the bear, starting to get up from the road. “That would be a bear. Do you not know what a bear is? Does this guy not know what a bear is?” The final part was directed to Tang, you leaning slightly back and stage whispering to him. Macaque face palms and lets his hand drag down his face as he looks to you. “I know what a- what I mean is why is it as big as a house?!” He asks, clearly irritated.
Your mouth forms a ‘O’ at his clarification but you stay silent, letting an awkward silence form. After a few seconds of silence, Macaque gesters to you, his expression becoming even more agitated.
“Oh your asking me!” “Yes I’m asking you! Who else would I be asking?!” You shrug. “I dunno, maybe Tang, he’s the smart one here.” Macaque brings his attention quickly to Tang waving an arm at the bear which was now beginning to give chase again.
Tang stiffens as the monkey demon brings his attention to him and quickly shrugs. “I don’t know!” Macaque stares at him for a moment before sighing and looking to everyone. “Does no one here know why there’s a huge bear chasing us currently?!” No one answered, instead opting to look away awkwardly or busy themself. Macaque stared at you all for a second and you wouldn’t be surprise if one of his veins popped in that moment.
Finally after a few more second of silence, Macaque spoke up. He raised his arms in surrender and turned away from you to the wall. “Nope, not getting into this mess” another portal formed on the wall and Leo, who you forgot was here, rushed into it, Macaque making a move to follow. You grab his arm to stop him from going in and plant your feet into the ground. “Your just gonna leave?!” Macaque looked back at you with a deadpan look. “Yeah, there’s no way I’m staying to see what happens with that thing-“ He nods to the bear which was still getting closer and closer to you all. “-so I’m leaving, you can come with if you have to.” You perk up at that.
“Can….can you make like- a huge portal in the ground and just get this whole van away?” You say, your words filled to the brim with hope. Macaque gives you a flabbergasted look as his brows furrow. “Yeah, no. Not doing that.” You look up at him. “Whaaat why?” Macaque yet again face palms. “Because a portal that big would take so much energy!” You look to the side and then at Macaque again. “…and…why is that a problem?” You ask.
“Why is that a- it would kill me! That’s the problem! I’m not dying for a bigger version of Smokey the bear!” You shrink at his words, mouth yet again forming a ‘O’. “Oh- OH, yeah don’t do that.” Macaque sighs, frustrated. He then turns around again towards the portal. This time, you fall to your knees and wrap your arms around his legs like an upset child to their parent. “Aren’t you like- ‘the great six eared macaque’ can you just- I dunno do something to help us?”
Macaque stiffens at your touch but soon relaxes and looks down at you with an unimpressed look. “Don’t you have the ‘Great Monkie-Kid?’” He says, nodding into the direction of Mk who shrinks in on himself when being mentioned. “Uuuh- yeah- heh, I may or may not have left the staff at home…? Heh?” Macaque froze and slowly turned his head to Mk, clearly pissed. “You left the staf-“ “but-but that doesn’t matter right now!” You cut in, trying to save Mk’s butt. “What does matter is if you’ll help us- you know, not die?”
Tang then speaks up from behind you in a panicked voice. “Yeah! And could you maybe decide that soon? Don’t mean to rush you or anything but THE BEAR IS RIGHT BEHIND US!!” You twist your head around to see the bear fully up now, as if you had done nothing to it, and just like Tang said, right behind the van. You snap your head around to Macaque again. “Dude, please!” You let go of his legs and clasp your hands together into a begging motion. “Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please!” Macaque looks down at you with furrowed brows. “No- no way am I helping you guys! I may have helped with the Lady Bone Demon and Scroll but that’s it! I’m not joining your little villain of the week adventures!”
You lower your hands and look up at him. “You don’t have to! This is the only one! Please!” You then give him the best puppy-dog eyes you could muster, trying to ignore the roars of the bear getting louder and louder. Macaque’s arms fall to his sides as he gives you a dead-pan look. “You look stupid like that.” Your mouth drops open in offense, ready to insult him back but instead you accidentally bite your tongue as the van takes a harsh turn.
You grasp onto Macaque’s legs yet again for support, causing him to stumble and swear under his breath. Macaque looses his footing as you tighten you hold on him, causing his legs to be squeezed together and for him to fall. You mumbled out a short apology but it was muffled by the loud growl emitting from the bear which was close enough to the van that you could see the drool dripping down from its sharp teeth that had previously bit into the metal van as if it was paper.
Everyone slowly turned their gaze to the bear, staring for a moment before promptly yell at the top of all of your lungs. Well- everyone except Macaque, who was instead looking at you all as if you were the most stupid creatures he’s seen in his whole life. And at this point, you all actually might be. After you all scream your lungs out, you snap your head to Macaque grabbing his shoulders and shaking him frantically.
“Dude c’mon!” He grabs your hands and struggle to pull them of his shoulders for a moment before shooting you a glare. “If I help you all will you stop annoying me about it?!” You weren’t the only one who nodded at his question, everyone in van nodded frantically, hell, your pretty sure you even saw Pigsy nodding from the drivers seat.
Macaque sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his fingers before looking back up at you. “Okay I can make a portal big a bough for the bear to fall in but I don’t know where to make it lead to.” Your eyes widen for a moment, somewhat surprised he was actually agreeing to help you. You shake your head, dispersing those thoughts as you begin to think. Where would be a good place to just randomly dump a huge bear? Sandy speaks up from the passengers seat, gripping the headrest of the seat as he looks into the back of the van.
“Uh, Mr.Maquack? Why not send it to Mr. Nezha? I’m sure he wouldn’t mind! And I’m sure he would know how to handle it!” Macaque shoots sandy a shot glare upon hearing the nickname he had given him but hesitated when Sandy’s words sunk in.
“Ya know what big guy? That’s not a terrible idea.” Macaque said, seemingly surprised to find that Sandy was actually pretty smart compared to you and the others. “Small problem, i don’t know where that kid is. I could send it to the celestial realm, but who knows how long it would take Nezha to find it, it could cause severe damage. Well- that’s depending on what force made the bear this big. If it was someone’s magic it could cause damage beyond repair- but if it was just a common mutation, something with its diet or whatnot, it wouldn’t be able to make a dent. But…we can’t make that risk…”
you stare at Macaque for a full minute before responding, grasping his shoulders yet again. “Okay, okay, we get it your smart, whatever! So if we can’t send the bear there where should we send it?” Macaque blinked at the mention of ‘we’ but shakes his head and looks to the ground. “I don’t know, we could always send it to another over world place- like the desert nearby or forest- but that would either lead to a gruesome death for the Smokey here or it would completely upset the balance.”
Before you could let out a frustrated groan at Macaques rambling, Tang interrupted you with yet another high pitched scream. “GUYS!!!” He was squeezing himself into the back corner of the van behind you, while Mei and Mk were bracing for an attack. You looked to the opening of the van to see the bear even closer now, as close as it was when you hit it with your bat. You wrap your arms around Macaque in panic and squeeze him close to you as if he was a stuffed animal. You saw out of the corner of her eye, Pigsy was doing the same to Sandy, who seemed just about ready to jump out of the car with you all in his arms.
“Macaque!!” You yelled, unknowingly right into his ears, causing him to wince. He looked up at you with a frustrated yet panicked look. “I don’t know what you want me to do! I can’t do anything without a location for the bear to be sent to!” The truck at this point was bumping up and down from the force of the bears stomps. One time the truck bounced high enough for all of you to be thrown into the air before it settled on the ground again, causing you to almost get whiplash as you fell harshly on the floor of the van, still gripping hard onto Macaque.
You look back to the bear and then Macaque, repeating the action before your eyes land on Mk who was hurriedly typing on his phone. He was most likely texting Red-Son, about how much he loved him or something like that- maybe telling them some last dying wishes. But that wasn’t what caught your attention. Instead your eyes were drawn to the sticker that was messily placed on Mk’s phone case. It was a cartoon version of Monkey King, the same design that was on Mk’s jacket.
Your eyes widen as you meet Macaques gaze and shake his shoulders, the bear starting to messily try to claw at the opening of the van while also trying to run and keep up. “Macaque! Can you send it Wukongs cave thingy? He’s the ‘Monkey King’ after all, won’t he have an idea on what to do with that thing? Or like- I’m sure flower fruit mountain also has other weird…animal…thingies like this!” You wave your arm towards the looming bear. Macaque shot you a glare and opened his mouth to retort but hesitated and clamped his mouth shut.
“That’s…actually not a terrible idea, sure Wukong would love to have a huge bear crashing into his home. You’re not as stupid as you look .” He directed the last part to you, giving you a small smirk that you couldn’t decipher the meaning of.
“Heh, yeah I know- wait I look stupid?” Macaque ignored you as he twisted around his shoulder to Pigsy and Sandy. “Hey! Wilbur, Blue, we need to have some space between us and the bear for it to actually fall into the portal.” Pigsy grew red at the nickname, rolling his sleeves up, seemingly ready for a fight before Sandy interrupted his attempts.
“I have exactly what we need Mr. Maquack!” Macaque grumbled something under his breath as Sandy then flipped up a panel in the controls to reveal a huge, bright, red button. “Hold on tight gang!” Was the only warning he gave you all before slamming his fist onto the button. The van immediately lurched forward, letting out a familiar automated ‘Meow!’ While doing so.
You gripped onto Macaque tighter with one arm while the other grasps onto the back of Pigsy’s seat. You were surprised to feel Macaque doing the same, gripping onto Sandy’s seat instead and even holding you closer. Tang was letting out a high pitched yell, hanging only by a groove of the metal floor of the T.E.A. Mei and Mk were surprisingly able to stay on their feet, only having to crouch slightly lower and grip onto each others arm for support.
Your attention was pulled to the bear which was now stumbling far behind the van, surprised just as you all were at the sudden speed. Soon the sudden speed of the van slowed to its previous pace, leaving a good amount of distance behind the T.E.A and the mutant bear. You all stay still, breathing heavily as you stare at the wannabe fazbear which also seemed just as confused. You soon broke the silence, snapping your head toward Sandy.
“You could’ve done that the whole time?!” Sandy chuckle, scratching the side of his head as Pigsy regained his composure and continued driving the T.E.A. “Well, yes technically- but it takes a good while to recharge the boosters, I wanted to make sure we only used it when absolutely necessary!” Your eye twitched but you sighed in defeat soon after, it was hard to stay mad at Sandy anyway.
Macaque spoke up, stealing everyone’s attention as he not so gently shoves you away from him, dusting his clothes of imaginary dirt. “Well if that’s all over with, I need a big space to summon the portal so if you all don’t mind-“ “what? You never needed like- a summoning space for portals before why-“ Mk cut himself off as he saw Macaques glare and let out a nervous chuckle. “Heh, right big portal, lot of energy, got it.” Macaque huffed and rolled his eyes but nevertheless sat in the middle of the truck, criss-cross apple sauce.
Mk and Mei were peeking over Macaques shoulder curiously as well as Tang. Sandy was peeking over his seat and Pigsy was only looking at Macaque with an unimpressed look while also keeping his eyes on the road. You were slightly in front of Macaque, more close to the opening of the Van than anyone.
Macaque seemed to ignore all of the attention as he shut his eyes. A large, dark purple circle formed underneath him. You immediately ruled it out as one of his portals since it looked nothing close to one of them- it had what seemed to be runes or letters of a different language scrawled within one of the rings of the circle. Mk was right, this was odd, macaque never needed anything like this for his portals- was he…was he just showing off?! You give him a deadpan look despite him unable to see it through his eyelids, although he might’ve felt your gaze if the small smirk on his face meant anything.
The bear roared in the distance, back to its main objective, to chase you guys. You all (except Macaque, who was still focused on summoning a portal) twisted your heads around to see that the bear was quickly gaining pace. But Macaque brought your guys attention back to him once the circle underneath him started to emit a pale purple light. The light covered the walls of the van and when Macaque opened his eyes you could see clearly how the purple reflected in his golden eyes and dark hair. You stare wide eyed as the glow begins to brighten, his hands beginning to become covered in his magic. He opens his eyes and immediately catches you gaze.
A smirk grows on his lips as the magic on his hands begin to glow as well adding to the magical atmosphere. Was…was Macaque always this pretty? You look from the purple glow reflected in his eyes to the purple shines in his hair, to his scarf which was blowing in the wind with the help of his magic. You shake your head to dispose of your thoughts and the rising heat in your cheeks and shoot him a glare. “You look stupid like that.” He only playfully rolls his eyes and brings both of his arms up and out in front of him. The magic on his hands travel from his hands to out of the van, slowly but surely landing on the road and forming yet another circle, this time it was one of his portals.
The portal was surprisingly slow as it formed, Macaque’s gaze never leaving the spot on the road where it was forming. For a moment, you were scared the bear was going to pass the portal before it fully formed, but before you could speak your worries, the portal formed. Unlike the circle that was underneath Macaque, the portal didn’t glow brightly, in fact it was dark. Dark enough that you wouldn’t be surprised if it let to nothingness or the void.
The bear spotted the portal and attempted to stop but it was going too fast beforehand, causing the bear to skid across the road. Dirt and dust from the gravel road was disturbed by the large mammal, flying up into the air. The bear wasn’t able to stop fast enough and fell into the portal, letting out a strangled cry as it fell into the darkness. Soon after, the portal shut, leaving no sign of itself on the road.
The T.E.A stopped in its tracks as the portal shut, swiveling around to the place the portal previously was. You all stayed silent, processing everything that happen in the past hours, but soon enough Mk perked up with a wide smile. “Macaque! You did it!” Macaque wasn’t fast enough to dodge Mk’s hug, letting out a huff of annoyance as the Monkie Kid did so.
After a minute or two Mk pulled back from the one sided hug and shot Macaque a curious look. “To be honest I thought you were gonna leave the first chance you got!” Macaque spared an annoyed glance your way and then back to Mk.
Macaque lightly shoved Mk’s hands off his shoulders and stood up, dusting himself off. “Yeah, well didn’t really have a choice-“ Another glance your way. You let out an awkward cough into your fist and then spun on your heel, exiting the van. You heard Macaque let out a chuckle that sounded tired, annoyed, and humored all at the same time as you left, being pulled into another conversation by Mei and Mk not far after. You let out a small smile as you heard Mei and Mk rambling about how cool Macaque looked, said monkey clearly soaking up all the compliments. As if he hadn’t had a big enough ego already.
You switched your weight onto one leg, kicking a rock near by with the other while waiting for the others to exit the van as well. Soon realizing the group wasn’t going to leave anytime soon, too busy questioning or rambling about Macaque. You let out a tired huff of air and were about to call to them when something out of the corner of your eye catched your attention with a small blue flash, reflected from the sunlight.
You squinted your eyes looking at the area where Macaque summoned his portal and the bear disappeared, trying to find the object that had catched your attention again. You walked closer to the area, looking at the ground for the same flash of light blue until you felt something hard under your foot. You stepped back, inspecting the ground when you saw it.
It appeared to be a small blue gem, well- a part of a gem anyway. It looked to be a small part of a bigger gem, it must’ve been cracked off or something. You bent down, picking up the small stone gently and put it up to the sun, seeing the same flash of blue yet again. You brought the stone back down and held it lightly in your palm, occasionally rolling it over to inspect it at different angles. One thing that surprised you was just how cold the gem was, even under the warm and bright shining sun it was cold to the touch. You toss the gem lightly up into the air, it landing back into your palm once again with a small ‘Tink!’. Was this what made the bear that big?
You were going to continue inspecting it but before you could you heard Mk’s voice getting louder and louder, a sign the group was leaving the vehicle. You quickly shoved the cracked piece of gem into your pocket and swiftly turned around sending the whole group a wide smile. “Sooooo pizza night in celebration for not dying?” You asked, ignoring the cold burning through your pocket. Mk and Mei looked to each other before high-fiving and cheering wildly. “Pizza night! Pizza night! Pizza night!” Pigsy didn’t intervene, only sighing and rubbing the bridge of his nose.
Macaque surprisingly walked up to you, going unnoticed by the others. He looked down at the ground where the portal was formed seemingly looking for something. “Did you find anything? Maybe something that explains Freddy’s sudden growth spurt?” Your eyes widen at the thought of Macaque knowing fnaf lore but quickly shake your head at the question.
“Uh- no. No nothing important!” Your eyes widen again, but this time at your own actions. Why did you lie? Was it subconscious? You look down at your pocket. You could always take it out, show him it. But you didn’t. Despite you telling yourself to do it, you didn’t, you just let the cold burn through your clothes fabric. Interrupting your thoughts, Macaque spoke up again.
“Hmm, well if you find anything let me know.” You look up to him to find him summoning yet another portal on the ground. “Wait your leaving already-“ macaque sunk into the portal before you could finish. Your shoulder sunk and you let out a disappointed sigh. Not quite surprised though, honestly, you expected him to leave sooner. But before you could dwell on that thought for any longer, Mk and Mei started to rush towards you while holding up their phones, asking about pizza toppings and drink choices.
