Knitting

Summary:

Sekizan takes some time away from his noisy team to do some knitting. An overwhelmed Kifune comes to join him.

Notes:

Prompt: Knitting and knitwear

Work Text:

As his teammates play card games and generally cause chaos in their room at the inn, Sekizan slips away from them, grabbing his bag before heading downstairs. He wanders into the thankfully quiet common room, and takes a seat on the couch. And, rummaging through his bag, Sekizan pulls out his wool, knitting needles and the half-finished blanket he has been working on for weeks.

The click of his knitting needles is comforting, and Sekizan smiles to himself as he moves his fingers, creating another row of stitches. He hadn't managed to do any knitting since the long coach ride to camp, and he missed just sitting down and knitting something. Sekizan isn't especially good at knitting, and he wouldn't give away the items he makes, but he doesn't care that his skill is lacking – he knits for fun, and that is all that matters to him.

The sound of slipper-clad feet slapping against the wooden floor makes Sekizan raise his head. Kifune walks around the corner, his shoulders hunched and his hands clutching the hem of his T-shirt – a habit he often does on the pitch, Sekizan has noticed. And when Kifune notices him, the younger boy flinches and bows his head. He's so jumpy around everyone.

"Did you also need some peace and quiet?" Sekizan asks, adjusting his grip on his knitting needles.

"Um... y-yeah," Kifune mumbles. "They're playing Old Maid. Gion-kun is... very loud."

Sekizan chuckles. "That's one way to describe him."

"Am... I disturbing you?" Kifune asks. "I, I can go somewhere else if you want, senpai—"

"Nah, it's fine," Sekizan says, smiling. "You're not a problem. Take a seat."

"Thank you, Captain," Kifune says. He takes a seat on the other end of the couch, kicking his slippers off before tucking his feet up onto the seat, hugging his knees to his chest.

"Are you doing okay?" Sekizan asks as he starts knitting again, the needles clicking.

"Sometimes... loud, crowded places are too much for me. I love this team, but sometimes being in a room with everyone... after a busy day... it's just too much for me."

"That's totally valid. Some of them really need to learn some volume control."

Kifune giggles weakly, smiling at him. As he sits there, Kifune stares at Sekizan's knitting needles and the half-finished blanket on his lap. "Is knitting fun?" he asks.

"Huh? Oh... yeah, I think so," Sekizan says. "It's relaxing. And I love the feeling of making something with my own hands." He glances at his kouhai. "Want me to teach you?"

"Really?" Kifune says, perking up a little.

"Sure thing."

"I'd... like that. Thanks, senpai."

"No problem. Now listen closely, and I'll explain the basics..."
