"So, what is it you wanted to tell me?" Camila asks as she leans against the kitchen table, glancing at her daughter and her girlfriend, who stand before her, hand-in-hand.
Earlier today, Luz mentioned something exciting had happened on the phone, but she insisted on being face-to-face with Camila before sharing the details. So, naturally, Luz dragged Amity back to the Human Realm to visit Camila (as though they didn't stay for the weekend just two days ago), and now they're here, ready to tell her something that had Luz bubbling with excitement on the phone.
"Well... the thing is..." Luz hesitates, and for just a moment Camila remembers a scene from almost ten years ago, when Luz showed her a slideshow on her laptop to both come out as bisexual and tell Camila that she's dating Amity. Back then, she looked a little anxious, but Amity squeezed her hand and gave Luz the courage to show Camila what she had made. And just like back then, Amity's fingers intertwine with Luz's and a smile reappears on Luz's face. "Amity proposed to me, mama! And I said yes! We're getting married!"
As Luz's words sink in, a delighted, joyful laugh bursts from Camila's chest, and she rushes forward to wrap both girls (although at 23 years old, they're not girls anymore) in a tight hug. "Oh, congratulations, mija!" she cries. "I'm so happy for you both!"
"Mom, you're crushing me!" Luz giggles, so Camila relaxes her grip just a little. But she doesn't let them go.
"So... you're happy about us getting married, I take it?" Amity says, chuckling.
"Of course, I am," Camila says. "I've known you since you were 14, Amity, and I know you're more than good enough to marry my daughter."
Amity's cheeks flush bright red, and she ducks her head. "Th-Thank you, Camila."
"Aww, I love it when you blush, sweet potato!" Luz says, leaning her head to rest her cheek against Amity's purple hair. Amity gives her a playful nudge with an elbow.
"Seriously, though, I'm happy for you both," Camila says.
Luz smiles. "Thank you, Mom."
