It was a cold winters night when Mama Dave wrangled all his little monkeys to bed. The five of them all bundled into their gowns and night caps and laid onto their bed all in a little line. When Mama Dave turned off the lights and shut the door, Eddie Monkey sat up in bed.
He put a finger up. “I have an idea brethren.”
“What is it brother?” Jeff Ament Monkey asked.
“It must be important for dear Eddie Monkey rose a finger!” Stone Monkey exclaimed.
“Let us jump upon the bed my brothers!” Eddie Monkey said.
Mike McCready and Matt Cameron Monkey held each other and giggled. “Beautiful idea my good brother!”
So the boys jumped on the bed exclaiming in glee and shouting in excitement! Suddenly, Matt Cameron Monkey fell off the bed and onto the floor crying and screaming in pain. Mama Dave burst through the door.
“What is goin on in here?!” He yelled as he checked Matt Cameron Monkey’s pulse. Sure enough, no heartbeat. Matt Cameron Monkey was dead.
“I will call the doctor,” Mama Dave said. “No more Monkeys jumping on the bed!”
Mama Dave took Matt Cameron Monkey’s body with him out of the room.
“Shall we?” Jeff Ament Monkey asked, and his brothers grinned.
The four of them jumped on the bed with childlike recklessness. Suddenly, Mike McCready fell off the bead and bumped his head on the side table. He screamed. Mama Dave burst in, checked Mike McCready’s pulse, and bowed his head in grief. Another Monkey dead.
“I’ll call the doctor,” Mama Dave said defeated. “Please no more Monkey’s jumping on the bed.”
Mama Dave took Mike McCready’s body and left.
“Again, brothers?” Eddie Monkey asked. The others grinned and they jumped on the bed with no inhibitions. Suddenly, Eddie Monkey fell onto the floor and screamed out. Mama Dave burst back in again only to find another Monkey dead.
“I’ll get the doctor,” Mama Dave said through tears. “No more jumping in the bed!” He scolded and left with Eddie Monkey’s body.
Jeff Ament Monkey looked at Stone Monkey and they laughed. “Again!” They exclaimed in unison.
They jumped on the bed and eventually, Jeff Ament Monkey fell upon his head and blacked out immediately. Mama Dave arrived to yet another dead Monkey. “No more, Stone Monkey. No more of this,” he said, and took Jeff Anent Monkey with him.
Stone Monkey smiled to himself and jumped on the bed. He experienced true joy and then jumped off the bed, the last Monkey standing. Then, from the open bedroom window, the doctor, Doctor Cornell, shot Stone Monkey with a tranquilizer gun and stuffed him in a bag and brought him to his brothers to with them forever and ever and ever. And then Mama Dave and Doctor Cornell kissed on the lips.
