Chapter Text

The wind howled and cut right through Taro’s cheap hoodie, chilling them to the bone. Snow was falling so hard that travel via elytra was impossible, and everyone had to rely on compasses and maps to find their ways home.

Still, Taro trudged through the snow, shivering and holding his jacket tight against his body. After a short while, however, a thick coat is placed on their shoulders.

Taro looks up to see Wels smiling at them, and before they can return the coat he starts walking again.

By the time they get home, it’s already started to get dark out.

Taro starts getting ready to sleep on the couch, since they don’t have a room yet, when Wels stops them.

“Hey, why don’t we set up a room for you so you don’t have to sleep on the couch any more?”

With that, Taro, Wels, and Impulse get a room set up for Taro.

By the time it's done, Taro is so tired that they immediately pass out upon laying in his new bed.

Taro wakes up with a startled gasp, heart hammering in their chest, the images of a nightmare still lingering in his mind.

After a moment of processing, Taro decides that there is absolutely no way that he'll be able to fall asleep again if he stays in bed like this. So the logical solution is to go talk to someone.

As Taro creeps down the hall, xir steps are dead silent, the only sound they make is the slight creak of the door to Impulse's room.

“Psst. Hey… hey, Impulse.” Taro pokes Impulse's arm until he wakes up. “I had a nightmare.”

Impulse wakes up slowly, taking a moment to process the words. “What? Oh, hey, what’s up?”

“...I had a nightmare.” Taro repeats.

Impulse blinks a few times, still groggy and half-asleep. After a moment, he gets up and leads Taro back to caer room. Impulse tucks Taro into bed and gives him a hug.

“Goodnight. I’ll leave the hallway light on and crack the door for you, okay?”

After a moment, Taro nods and smiles. “Thanks dad, goodnight.”
