Summary
Madoka Kaname lived in a world without God. God had been defeated by The Devil many, many years ago, long before Madoka ever existed. But the Devil did not destroy the world, as one would expect her to. Instead she brought peace and happiness to the humans of the earth. Of course, this was only possible if all the bad humans disappeared first, but everyone considered this a fair trade.
After all, The Devil had pulled God herself from heaven. Who were they to tell her she was wrong?
Or…
Madoka is chosen as a sacrifice for The Devil.
