Chapter Text
All in all, Arada takes nine hours to get there. And then there’s an awkward stand-off where Overse can’t just up and disappear because they’ve got the agent on her all the time now. But finally, finally, Bharadwaj pushes the button and opens the door for Overse to jump into the van.
Arada’s there.
Arada is there. With Overse. Not a face on the computer screen, not a kiss blown over the comms before a desperate escape, not the few times they’ve been in the same place long enough to hug and kiss and nothing more. Arada has her held close to her chest, scanning her with the bug scanner Overse dropped off last time Arada was in town.
“Clear.” Arada touches Overse’s hand. “What do you know, they kept their word. VILE, though…”
“VILE’s a bigger threat,” Overse says for her. “They know where I live and who I am.”
“Your parents are safe,” Arada says. “We went there first and convinced them to pack up, with that data package you sent it was easy. They’re at the safehouse in– far from here and far from your home. We can move you there with them or have you stay somewhere else if you want?”
“I think I want to stick close to the team for a little bit,” Overse says, making her point by tucking her head into Arada’s underarm. “I can do classes from anywhere. I can work from almost anywhere. A VILE jail cell isn’t a good place for any of that.”
“You’ll never be back there. Not if I can help it.” Arada squeezes her hand. “Thief’s honor. I’ll always come save you.”
Overse smiles and squeezes back. She’ll take that promise and hold it in her heart. Arada will save her just like she saves Arada.
