The first Captain’s Potluck dinner on the Enterprise didn’t turn out quite the way Chris expected.

“We have a problem here,” Chris said, surveying the several covered tureens on his kitchen counter after everyone had arrived. “It looks like all we have to eat tonight is soup.”

“Seriously?” Una sounded incredulous. “No one brought a main course? A salad? A side dish?”

“Not even a loaf of bread?” La’an raised an eyebrow.

“Normally that happens only with casseroles,” Hemmer muttered, “or so I understand.”

“Nope. Just soup,” Chris confirmed. "Now I admit it’s a great selection. We’ve got Plomeek, Egusi, Maharagwe, albondigas, minestrone, vichyssoise, Aenarian chicken, whiskey, even dessert soup…”

“That sounds like a full-course meal right there,” Erica said.

Chris looked at his gathered officers fondly, then sighed. “But did no one think to ask anyone else what they were bringing?”

Not one could quite look Chris in the eye, except Joseph. “I guess this is an object lesson in how to coordinate a potluck,” Joseph said, unable to stifle a chuckle.

“At least everyone will be well-hydrated,” Christine noted.

Chris sighed again. “I don’t have enough bowls and spoons on hand for all this soup. Unless we wash them between each serving.”

“We could just dump all the soups together into a ‘souper’ soup,” Erica offered, to eye-rolls from everyone.

“I am sure we will manage, Captain,” Spock said. “We can simply sample each in turn.”

“Sounds good to me,” Chris said.

“Problem solved,” Una said.

“Okay then. Who wants to begin?” Chris asked.

“Well, I’m starving and I’m going to try the dessert soup first,” Uhura said. “What is it?”

“Black sesame,” La’an replied, “and it’s delicious.”

Chris clapped his hands together. “All right. Dig in and enjoy, everybody,” he said, and started handing out the bowls.
