Work Text:
Amity flicks her hair back behind her ear. It’s darker at the top of her head where it’s twisted into braids that meet at the back. Her crown is nestled in the soft, straight green close enough to her scalp to where it becomes brown. The heavy metal weighs her down so that she has to strain her neck to keep it upright.
Odalia, to her right, scoffs at the peasant’s request. Lessen taxes, spread food supply, use wealth for good - the usual. Amity doesn’t like to listen. If she listens, she feels bad. If she feels bad, she starts questioning her mother. If she starts questioning her mother. . . Well, it can’t lead to anything good.
Odalia dismisses the peasant and the guard calls out the next name on the list. It’s an odd name. Something foreign, probably. It catches Amity’s attention.
The door to the hall creaks open and a head of floppy brown curls peak in. The girl moves so she’s just in front of the door and scuffs her feet against the ground.
“Well,” Odalia begins impatiently, “Come forward.”
The girl walks forward so she’s just a few meters in front of the thrones. Now that she’s closer Amity can see that she’s actually very pretty. Her eyes are big and her eyebrows are set with either confidence or stubbornness. And her clothes - her clothes are very strange.
She clears her throat.
“Queen Odalia, I have come here to demand change. My name is Luz Noceda and I’m from Terra Major -”
“Terra Major?!” Odalia interrupts, “No. I will take no messages from that place.” She spat the last words like they made her nauseous.
“Wait, but I haven’t even said anything!”
Odalia snaps her fingers and two guards pull Luz away and out of the room. Amity leans forward. She’s weirdly intrigued by this girl. What could Terra Major be doing, sending a random girl to talk to their sworn enemies?
Amity can hear as Luz is thrown out of the castle entirely. Odalia is seething. Amity hears the next name being called and readjusts herself. No curiosity can show. She doesn’t have emotions. Just power. Get that girl out of her head.
