Work Text:

Oikawa was slightly panicking now.

Be a father they said, it will be easy they said.

Oikawa tugged on the car door, and yet again it didn’t budge. It was like the handle of the car door had been glued shut.

He stared at it for a moment longer before slowly turning to Iwaizumi and asking, “Did we just lock our baby in the car?”

The information seemed to hit Iwaizumi quicker than it had Oikawa as he turned sharply on him, eyes wide as he too tugged on the door handle only for it to not open and yelled in a panic, “did you put the keys in the bag?!”

Oikawa raised his free hand into the air, “Yes Iwaizumi! I put the keys in the bag,” he confirmed, voice raising as the irritation grew, “you told me to!”

“Kawa!” Iwaizumi shouted from the other side of the car, “I TOLD you specifically NOT to put the keys in the bag!”

Oikawa’s breathing picked up, and he stepped away from the car, suddenly feeling like the sun was too bright, and he was too hot. He fans his face, willing himself a moment to cool down and register what was happening… what he had done.

Meanwhile, Iwaizumi was freaking out by the passenger side door, marching back and forth like a mind-processed ape, erratic from being in confinement for too long. He yelled as he tugged harshly on the door handle like he could wedge it open with his bare arms and muscles alone.

“Iwa~” Oikawa called, his voice shaky; They weren’t working together, and he was starting to freak the fuck out. People got arrested for this.

Iwaizumi stopped his assault on the car door and looked up to find his husband"s lifeless eyes staring blankly at the car. It took all but a second for fear to swirl to the brim and this situation had now become a critical one… at least for their car now that Oikawa was seeking out its death warrant.

It hadn’t even had time to plead its case. It was innocent.

“Don’t freak out!” Iwaizumi warned, leaping around the car but fate had other plans as his foot caught the edge of the tire and sent him into the waiting concrete. A curse that wasn’t for the faint of heart left his mouth.

Iwaizumi cried out in pain, his foot feeling rather twisted and burning in a spot it shouldn’t. His advice had come too late and when he raised his head. Oikawa was already gone.

Iwaizumi rushed for his phone and dialled the emergency number while still sprawled out over the road. Two thoughts on his mind, Tobio and Oikawa.

“Emergency assistance, this is Mira.”

“W-we locked our baby in the car and people are judging us!” Iwaizumi spoke as he glanced around trying to find where his manic husband had run off to and instead, he found the watchful eyes of many strangers on them.

“I’m breaking the window!” Oikawa warned, his voice echoing from a distance.

Iwaizumi peered around the tire and watched as Oikawa came running at the car, trash can over his head. “I swear I"m going to break it!”

“Do NOT break the window! You’ll get glass on him,” Iwaizumi shouts in warning, pushing up to his feet and limping over to meet Oikawa halfway.

“Sir please tell your wife to relax. Everything is going to be okay,” Mira reassured from the other end.

“That’s a man,” Iwaizumi informed rather calmly, finding himself rather flabbergasted at the fact someone had thought of Oikawa as a woman.

“Really?” she asked, sounding just as shocked.

Iwaizumi looked over at Oikawa and studied him for a second. Tobio did call him Mama, so he guessed it was close enough.

“Don’t worry Tobio, Mummy’s coming for you!” Oikawa shouted reattempting the trash can method.

Iwaizumi threw his hand up, “STOP WILL YOU!” he hissed.

“Sir, we"ve just sent the signal. The door should be unlocked now,” Mira informed.

“Check the door. Check the door,” Iwaizumi snapped, pointing at the door as he held the phone closer to his ear, “Check the door!”

Oikawa tugged on the handle, and it still didn’t budge, “It’s not unlocked!” Oikawa cries before he flies backwards as the door finally gives way, “oh…. That is amazing! How did they do that?”

“I don"t know… i-it just–” Iwaizumi mumbled, leading off as he looked around at the rather big crowd that had gathered. “We got it. Thank you,” he said waving the onlookers away as politely as he could.

“Did that come from space?” Oikawa asked, looking up at the sky in pure wonder.

When they finally checked in on Tobio, the boy was still passed out in his car seat, sleeping soundlessly and unbothered. It was a good thing he hadn’t witnessed his parent"s erratic states otherwise the poor thing would have been traumatised.

BONUS

“I think the car should be totaled,” Iwaizumi said later, an ice pack currently wrapped around his rather swollen foot.

Oikawa agreed as he sat down with a sigh, “Totally. We should call in a tow truck to get it taken away?”

“Tow truck?” Iwaizumi frowned, turning and facing Oikawa, “why would we need a tow truck? I can just drive it to the dealers" tomorrows.”

Oikawa rubbed nervously at the back of his neck, “because I might or might not have done some damage and now it"s a bit undriveable…”

“Oikawa!” Iwaizumi cried, “we need a car to get around! What the heck did you even do?!”

“It’s fine!” Oikawa pushed back, “I"ll buy us a new car.”

“Mama… dada… whot’s goen on?’ Tobio asked, stumbling over his words as he pulled on Oikawa sweater pants to get his parents" attention. He had been busy playing mindlessly with his toys a second a go but now he had gained interest in the adult’s conversation.

“Don’t mind your pretty little head about it,” Oikawa smiled sweetly, “mama’s got it all under control.”

“Sure, you do,” Iwaizumi mumbled under his breath and Oikawa hit him harshly on the foot, sending Iwaizumi into a ball of pain.

“Oh, oops I forgot about that,” Oikawa said eyes wide before he smiled.

Who the heck did Iwaizumi marry?!

In the end the car hadn’t had a chance to plead its metal box excuses or open a case to plead itself against the mechanics. Oikawa had already determined its fate.
