Work Text:
October 30th is probably Ichika’s favorite day of all time.
And that’s saying a lot, because Ichika has a lot of favorite days. (Like the 8th of January…for no particular reason.)
Why is it one of Ichika’s favorite days?
Simple.
They started dating Shiho on that day.
And that meant that the 30th of October was their anniversary.
“And the red ones,” Ichika explained, nuzzling Shiho’s shoulder. “Are carnations.”
“Really?” Shiho hummed, studying the bouquet Ichika out together. “And what do those mean?”
”Red carnations symbolize,” Ichika corrected. “Things like affection and love…admiration even. And giving someone red carnations would be telling them that you feel something special for them.”
”Ohh, I see.” The younger of the two replied. “And…what about those ones?”
”Larkspurs.” Ichika told him. “They symbolize strong bonds of love…but some people also say they can symbolize your first love.”
Shiho giggled. “There’s a lot of them in the bouquet…”
”Mmm, ‘cause they’re pretty, like you.”
“You’re adorable, you know that?”
”Not as adorable as you.”
“Oh, stop…”
Shiho blushed and set the flowers aside. “I have something for you.”
Ichika faked a gasp. “For moi?”
Shiho nodded. “For toi.”
Shiho pulled out a neatly wrapped box and placed it in Ichika’s lap. “Go on, open it.”
Ichika smiled and unwrapped the box eagerly, gasping. “Oh…!”
What a pretty little bracelet.
”Gorgeous,” Shiho laughed. “I know the bracelet is pretty but you didn’t even—“ he reached for the circle charm hanging on it. “…Opened it yet.”
Ichika squealed. “There’s-theres a picture of us inside!”
Shiho nodded. “Mhm. Do…do you like it..?”
Ichika threw their arms around him. “I love it! Thank you thank you thank you!”
Ichika reached behind them and placed the bracelet on Shiho’s dresser before sitting up and cupping Shiho’s face.
Shiho giggled. “Jeez, someone certainly knows what they want, don’t they?”
”Oh, shut up.” Ichika snickered. “Y’know, I didn’t have to come over today.”
“That’s funny, because here you are.”
”Just shut up and kiss me, Shiho.”
Shiho laughs again, before wrapping their arms around Ichika’s waist and smiling as their lips connect.
It’s strange, really. They do it all the time, and yet somehow Ichika never gets sick of kissing him. If they really thought about it, they just want to do it again and again every single time it happens.
And thankfully, the excuse of it being their anniversary lets them do that with absolutely zero consequences.
Which means it’s obviously what both of them chose to do now.
(They’re a little obsessed with each other. Leave them be. They’re gay.)
Shiho pulls away to nuzzle and kiss Ichika’s neck, something he’s done even more of ever since he found out about the scratches.
”Te amo tanto, Ichika.” He cooed. “I love you so much.”
“Je t'aime aussi, Shiho.” Ichika hummed. “I love you, too.”
”I know, I’m pretty cool.”
”Oh, shut up.”
”Never.”
The silence the two share is comfortable, the way it always is, until Ichika speaks.
”You wanna know something I’ve learned from dating you?”
”What?”
”How to speak Shiho.”
Though Ichika can’t see it, they can feel the way Shiho tilts his head over.
”Hm?”
”Like when you’re grumpy, it means ‘feed me in twenty minutes.’ And that when you’re snappy, it means ‘You should have fed me twenty minutes ago.’”
Shiho snorts. “Rude…”
”I’m not done, baby.” Ichika rolled their eyes. “I know the face you make when something’s bothering you, I know the face you make when you find something cute, the songs you hum whenever you’re concentrating, the way you tense whenever you’re talking to someone you dislike…all of the things. You’re hard to read for everyone else, but not for me.”
They felt Shiho chuckle against their neck. “Y’know, I think I’ve learned how to speak Ichika, too.”
”Really?”
”Yeah. The pouty gave you make whenever you can’t write lyrics or practice your guitar, they way you slightly puff up your cheeks if you want to cuddle, how you lightly thump your feet if you’re annoyed, the increased amount of eye rolls if you’re hungry…a lot of other things.”
”Damn, that’s accurate.”
”Yeah. That means I’m fluent in five languages.”
”Which are…?”
”Japanese, German, Spanish, you, and…”
He quickly pulls away from their neck to press his lips to Ichika’s. (for probably the 100th time, honestly)
”That one.” He said.
Ichika sputtered. “I-did you—you motherfucker—“
”You’re cute when you’re flustered, y’know.”
”Well—“ Ichika stammered. “You’re cute whenever you do anything, so ha!”
Shiho giggled. “You’re adorable, you know that?”
“So are you.”
“I am not.”
“Yeah you are.”
“One example.”
“When you’re flustered.”
“I don’t get flustered.”
“Oh really?”
“Yeah, rea—“
Shiho squeaked as Ichika grabbed their wrists, pushing him down and his arms above his head.
“I—Ichika—?!”
Ichika giggled. “Damn, you really are cute like this…”
“S-stop looking at me like that!”
“Like what?”
“Oh my god, you’re so annoying.”
“Yuh-Huh, sure I am~”
“Fuck you.”
“You would love that wouldn’t you.”
“Ichika what the fuck.”
“I’m mentally unstable.”
“I know.”
“Thanks for the comfort I guess.”
“You’re welcome. Now let me sit up.”
Ichika sighed. “Fine, you’re no fun.”
”I’m gonna be even less fun tomorrow if you keep this up.”
”Why tomorrow?”
”Because today’s our anniversary. I literally can’t be annoyed at you today.”
”Why’s that?”
”’Cause,” Shiho whispered. “All I can think about is how lucky I am to have you.”
He tucks a strand of hair behind Ichika’s ear as he says it, and their heart soars.
God damn, they are so down bad.
”E-eh—?!”
“Don’t look so surprised.” Shiho huffed, but with no real bite. “It’s true.”
”I—I uhm—!” Ichika stuttered, fidgeting with the material of their shirt and ducking their head. “I-I’m not—“
”That special?” Shiho finished the sentence for them. “You underestimate just how amazing you are, Love.”
”S-stop…” Ichika flushed. “Too many compliments…”
”But I thought you liked it when I praised you?”
Ichika whined. “Stoppppp.”
”No.”
”Babeeee.”
”Don’t ‘babe’ me, babe.”
”I will ‘babe’ you all I want!”
Shiho snorted. “Stop being so cute for a minute, would you? If anyone found out how much I actually liked you my reputation would be ruined.”
”Oh no,” Ichika fake gasped. “We certainly couldn’t have that.”
Ichika laughed, and Shiho laughed, too, before pulling Ichika into a comfortable embrace, tracing the line of Ichika’s hips and the latter giggled.
”You’re such an idiot.”
”Mmm, maybe. But I’m your idiot.”
”And I love you for it.”
“And I love you.”
”I love you more.”
”I love you the most.”
And Ichika is happy.
And Shiho’s happy too.
Whatever’s outside of the room could wait until tomorrow.
In here? Right now? On this day?
It was just them.
