Heart thundering in his ribs, all Bart could do was shuffle his tail further under his tiny sanctuary and turn back to the outside, where the shadow had…disappeared. The monster was gone.
He’d lost track of the bigger Mer, of the thing that probably wanted to eat him. A thing that hadn’t lost track of him, though, it seemed, as the scraping over his hiding spot grew louder.
Swallowing hard, Bart’s resolve hardened and he bared his fangs. If he was going down today, he was going with his claws and teeth in another mer’s skin.
