Work Text:

It was dark, the kind of dark that felt oppressive, and the chill night air was damp. There was a fog clinging to the gravestones that were arranged haphazardly around the wet grass, seemingly without regard for logic, and only the very tops of the tallest statues emerged from the mist. But Crowley didn’t mind. He liked spooky.

The atmosphere was not really his concern, though. He was waiting for Aziraphale, almost with bated breath. He had planned for tonight, practiced for it, and he had very high hopes that things would go the way he wanted. It was his only desire in the world.

He checked his watch, not quite impatient, but certainly a little eager. Aziraphale was due to arrive precisely at eleven, and it was three minutes til. Crowley lowered his wrist and bounced his leg with anxiety and excitement as he sat on the cold stone bench, waiting.

“Hello, dear,” came Crowley’s favorite sound in the world, and he spun around with a brilliant smile to see his lover standing there, smiling at him.

He almost felt weak with radiating love. “Hi, angel.”

“I do hope you haven’t been waiting long,” Aziraphale said, coming to sit.

Crowley took his hand. “I’d wait forever for you.”

“Forever is a long time, darling.”

“I know. And that’s what I want to talk to you about.”

He raised a white-blond brow. “You do?”

Crowley swallowed, nodded. “Yes. I do. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and I’ve come to one unshakable conclusion.”

“What’s that?”

He took a steadying breath. “I’m in love with you, angel. I’m just… completely in love with you.”

Aziraphale smiled softly. “I love you, too, darling. You know that.”

Crowley plowed ahead. “My soul met yours and I’ve had joy for the first time in my life ever since. I don’t ever want to lose that. I don’t want to live without you.”

“You’ll never have to, my sweet.”

“I just… want to be with you. For eternity.”

Aziraphale ducked his head. “Crowley, we’ve talked about this -“

“I know we have,” he interrupted. “And I know what you’ve said. But nothing you’ve told me has changed my mind. I want to be with you forever. I want you to be with me.”

“I’d like that, too, my sweet. But I would be condemning you to life as a killer - that can never, ever stop killing. I don’t think you want that. Not really.”

“No,” Crowley admitted. “I don’t particularly want to kill. But I’m willing to. I’m happy to, if it gets me you. Maybe we could take up near a prison or something, and only kill evil people. Maybe animals. Something. But even if we only killed priests and nuns, I’d be happy to do it.”

“Crowley -“

“I can’t kill kids, but that’s my only hard limit. As long as I’m with you. I don’t care. I have to be with you.”

“Crowley,” Aziraphale said again in a measured tone, “everyone you know and love will die. Your family, your friends, everyone. And it will happen over and over again. You’ll be alone.”

“Except for you. And that’s all I need. You are all I need.” Aziraphale made to say something and Crowley jumped ahead. “Please, angel. All I want is an eternity with you. I want to be by your side for the rest of time.”

“And what happens if, in fifty years, you decide you’re tired of me?”

“I never will. I promise. I know my own mind, angel. I truly want to be with you until the seas boil and the kraken rises from the depths.”

Aziraphale gave him a skeptical look. “There’s no going back from this, you know. It’s permanent.”

“I know. That’s what I want.”

“I must be mad,” Aziraphale sighed. Crowley sensed victory. “If I do this, it would be the most entirely selfish thing I’ve ever done. I shouldn’t do it. I know it. But, God, Crowley, I’m desperately in love with you, and the thought of you growing old and dying tortures me.”

Then do it,” Crowley implored. “Please, please, angel. Let me be with you forever.”

Aziraphale gave a short nod. “Alright. Are you ready?”

Crowley nodded eagerly, his heart pounding. “I’m ready. Yes.”

“Very well, then,” Aziraphale said, and reached up to cradle Crowley’s head. “Lean to the side for me, darling, that’s a good chap. And before I do this, let me first say that I love you very much.”

“I love y-“ he began, but he didn’t get to finish.

Aziraphale’s fangs pierced his flesh, and Crowley smiled happily as he felt the blood flow out of his veins, into Aziraphale’s mouth.
