Work Text:
Danny stared at the man in front of him. He felt wrong. Like he should be at least slightly liminal, but there was something wrong with his ectoplasm.
And Danny had just revealed his scar to him.
But the man, Jason, kept projecting a sense of calm. And despite everything he had been through, Danny felt that he could trust him.
Jason’s breath had hitched when Danny had lifted his shirt, but now he was looking at the stab wound an agent had given him when the GIW caught up to him yesterday. Danny didn’t have long. He would have to leave Gotham soon. But he had figured it would be best to get his injury treated first.
It had been a month since he had escaped the GIW lab and he had no wish to go back.
“Do you want anesthetic?”
Danny blinked. “What?”
Jason gestured toward his wound, “Do you want some local anesthetic before I start the stitches?”
Danny shook his head. “No, it doesn’t work on me.”
Jason raised an eyebrow, but just got out some disinfectant and started cleaning the wound.
Danny turned away, biting his lip. It stung. With everything he’d been through, he’d have thought that something this simple wouldn’t pain him anymore.
It didn’t take long for Jason to be done.
Both of them sat there for a moment in silence.
“Want to tell me who gave you that?”
Danny didn’t say anything.
“I could protect you.”
Danny snorted. If the GIW found Jason they’d put him on a lab table as well.
Jason sighed. “Alright, would you at least like some food? I just made some cookies.”
DAnny frowned, looking around, “Where…?”
Jason winced. “Actually, my apartment is next door. This is my friend’s. He asked me to watch it while he was gone.”
That didn’t seem like it was true. But Danny didn’t feel any negative intentions coming from Jason so he nodded.
“Cool.” Jason stood and offered Danny a hand which he took, wincing as he stood up. “Follow me.”

Jason struggled to keep his emotions from showing. Danny had a dissection scar. And that wasn’t the only thing. Not counting the recent stab wound, Danny had plenty of scars from burns to cuts to ones that looked medically induced.
And Jason had also seen the scarring around his wrists and neck. Things that came from being chained up too long, and what might be a power suppressant collar, if Jason’s guess about Danny being a meta was true.
He was fuming. Who would do that to a kid? Just wait until he found them. He’d make sure they didn’t hurt anyone ever again.
But for now there was a scared, hurt kid who needed his help.
Jason took a deep breath and let the kid into his apartment.
First step, cookies and hot chocolate.
