Chapter 2: Resistance

Summary:

“Wiki-how, I can’t–” Macau burst into laughter, toppling sideways on the couch. “Th–that’s perfect! I’m never calling him anything else ever again!”
“Watch it, Cao! You almost made me ruin my nails!” Wat complained, inspecting the polish for any mistakes.

Chapter Text

“What do you mean ‘he’s taking WIK to court’ ?” Chay asked, blinking as he tried to process this whole thing faster.

“I mean exactly what I said. Khun Kim gave Khun Khimhant the paperwork just last evening.” Kit shrugged, careful not to disturb the pallet of paint he was holding for Baiboon.

You’re kidding. ” Macau grinned, looking, for all intents and purposes, like Christmas had come early. “This is great!”

“This is terrible!” Chay bemoaned, hiding his face in his hands.

“I don’t know what you’re worried about, Chay.” Rain mused, mildly distracted by his phone which he was furiously typing away on. He, Kan, Team and Win were currently duking it out with other fans on Instagram, Twitter (X), and Facebook about WIK’s song stealing allegations. “He was a shitty guy.”

“I totally would’ve done it if Mama Kim hadn’t beaten me to it.” Team said through a mouth of Lays Potato Chips, thumbs furiously tapping away on his phone.

“Lets not forget that Mama Kim has practically made a sport out of getting revenge on shitty significant others.” Ayan said, watching from over Win’s shoulder as the older man converted yet another fan to their cause in calling out WIK for stealing Chay’s song. “Damn, Phi, you’re good at this.”

“It helps to have friends with rich kids and those folks in the Business Department. Great for improving one’s argumentative repertoire.” Win replied, flipping onto a different server to continue his crusade.

“Who’s your friend in the BD?” Sky asked curiously.

“His name is Frong. His family owns a flower shop.” Win answered, glancing up at Sky. “I can introduce you if you want.”

“I’ll think about it. Thank you, Phi.” Sky smiled in gratitude.

The other pod-children had become rather protective of Sky since learning about Gun. They didn’t treat him like he was made of glass, but they did tread a bit differently. They had all invested in learning more about anxiety, different kinds of grounding techniques, and how to help if something arose. Also, their respect for Sky had greatly increased, seeing he’d gone through Hell and came out the otherside scarred but alive, and stronger than ever. But the vetting process for those they deemed worthy of meeting Sky had reached 13 pages last he heard.

“Kill me.” Chay groaned, curling up to hide his face in his knees. Apparently his hands just weren’t enough.

“If we did, Mama Kim might off Wiki-How in retribution.” Wat added in from where he was painting his nails on the couches furthest from the quartet currently fighting on social media. He just so happened to be next to Sky and Macau.

Before anything more could be said, the doors leading to the patio slammed open.

“-ut up, Prapai. I heard Khun Kim had a new target and I want in.”

“You only want in because he kicked your ass previously.”

And yes, it was Phayu and Prapai, the two quickly rounding the corner to the lounge.

“P’Phayu!” Rain exclaimed, hopping up from the couch excitedly.

“Rain.” Phayu smiled, bringing the younger man into a hug.

“So,” Sky drawled, head propped up on his hand. “I overheard you want to help Mama Kim with Khimhant.”

“That’s correct.” Phayu nodded.

“Hate to break it to ya, buddy, but Mama Kim won’t be needing your particular set of skills for this one.” Macau shrugged, having finally stopped laughing. “He’s suing him, and, last I checked, you’re an architect and a mechanic.”

“Ha!” Prapai laughed, thumping Phayu on the arm. “See? Even the gods are against you helping Khun Kim.”

Phayu pouted, causing a round of chuckles to rouse from the pod children. Though that then sparked another thing for Chay to argue about.

“Why would he even go after P’Kim?” Chay whined, though it was half-hearted at best. “I’m not his pod-child.”

“Because he cares about you.” Akk answered. He was helping Baiboon by holding a flattened cardboard box covered in reference photos pinned to it. “You think he’d do this if he didn’t care?”

Chay sighed. “It’s just… with you guys, you didn’t really have feelings for the ones he was going after.”

“I love P’Phayu.” Rain said, contradicting Chay’s statement. He got a nuzzle from the man in turn. “Trust me,  if you end up being with him he’ll definitely think twice before trying anything.”

“I second that.” Phayu agreed.

“I third that!” Prapai called from where he’d meandered over to Sky.

“He didn’t even scold you that badly.” Sky rolled his eyes fondly.

“Maybe so, but Khun Kim is quite… dare I say, formidable. And I’m quite content to stay out of his warpath.”

Chay sighed, flopping over on the arm of his chair despondently. “What if P’Kim doesn’t want me after this?”

“Find someone better.” Came the unanimous reply.

They’ve had this conversation so many times it was practically scripted by now.

“Oh, children!”

The group perked up at the sound of Kim’s voice. Soon, the aforementioned mer appeared in the doorway, a bright grin on his face.

“Hello Prapai… Phayu,” Kim still said the latter’s name with an undercurrent of disdain, before switching back to his positive chirping. “I just had a very interesting conversation with Kamol and Pakin’s two nephews, and we’ll be having guests over in a few days.”

Kim propped his hands up on his hips as he began a rundown of expectations for the visit. “Now, I want you all on your best behavior. Leo is older than all of you, a senior I believe, and Fiat is a second year and captain of his department’s basketball team.”

“Are they mers?” Rain asked curiously.

“Fiat is, Leo is not.” Kim answered.

“What about the thing with WIK? Are you sure introducing a new mer to us now is a good idea?” Win asked, thinking quickly.

“I’m confident everything will be fine. Khimhant will be dealt with in a timely manner, but Fiat’s situation is a bit more pressing.”

“Why?” Chay asked, biting his lip worriedly.

Kim turned to Chay, his eyes dark and unblinking. “He has  salt-sickness.”
