Work Text:
Dr Carmilla, is by all means, very strange. She’s millennia old, a doctor, and technically a mother figure to…eight?
Hmh. She’s not sure.
At first, she meets Jonny. He’s a strange boy, but they somehow get along well enough. After the unfortunate incident where he…dies, they travel together for years after that before landing on Cyberia.
She tasks him with getting a ship, because they’re current one’s life support keeps shutting down. And even if they can’t stay dead, asphyxiation is just such a tedious process to revive from.
Of course, while he raids the Cyberian Military’s entire starship supply, she’s off buying whatever the hell she wants.
Her first stops the nearest pharmacy. Except she doesn't find one. Hell, the stores that exist are just…empty. The only people here wander the streets, seemingly unfocused on their surroundings. They're feet are stained in blood and there's torn banners around their shoulders.
She waits around after that, until the transmitter in her pocket blares. Jonny never got the hang of these things, always starting a message too early and ending it before the audio catches on. But he gets the message across of start walking.
And she does, but she wants to keep him waiting long enough, and she swears there’s something weird about this city. No, this planet.
And she finds Anastasia at some point.
Nastya is an mess, but she fixes her up. And as it turns out, the girl knows enough about ships to fix up their new one. And…Jonny found one that’s sentient.
Then it’s the three of them. Or four of them.
Then there’s Ashes, the most enthusiastic of the bunch, actively taking her offer for immortality. Their act of burning down their planet was stunning, the fire reaching the outer atmosphere while they watched from the Aurora, a smirk on their face and a cigar in their lips.
Brian comes after that then, freezing in the middle of space. She thinks he’s a fine fit. The crew don’t.
She spends the next year floating in space.
She knows some came after that, one that used the eyes she built. There’s three that just…showed up, mechanised themselves. She wishes she got to know them. Study them.
She thinks alot, of her past, of Lorelei, of the Mechanisms (What an splendid name).
When she hears of their deaths, she weeps for the first time since she was left on that planet. They shouldn't have been able to die.
