Work Text:
The eternal crash of the waves against the shore filled my ears as I stood on that lonely beach. The moon cast an eerie glow on the waters, making it look like an inky abyss stretching toward the world’s edge. I had always felt terrified; however, tonight, the sea had a sinister, looming aura that was even more suffocating than before.
My thalassophobia , the fear of the deep, open sea, had always been a part of me. It embedded itself into the roots of my brain as a little girl. I got it on a trip to the beach, where I had almost drowned. It had happened on this very beach as well. Since then, I have avoided the sea like the plague. Tonight, however, something was different. I felt like a sailor ensnared by a siren song. I began to amble towards the water despite my fear clawing at my heart.
I noticed something strange in the distance as I gazed into the inky abyss. Something seemed to be under the water. At first, I had dismissed it as a fish, but the shadow seemed to grow closer. I panicked as I realized it was coming straight for me. The shadow seemed bigger the closer it came until it stopped a few feet away from me on some rocks.
What emerged from the dark depths chilled me to the bone. It was a woman, a woman with an alluring yet terrifying face. Her hair, as dark as the ocean depth, flowed around her like a cloak, and her eyes were pools of sapphires staring into my soul. She was beautiful however, her aura didn’t seem right.
“ Who are you,” I called out, my voice laced with trepidation.
The woman didn’t respond. Instead, she let out a haunting, ethereal melody that seemed to derive from the depths of the sea itself. Her song captivated and drew me in despite my fear of the deep, dark sea.
With that, I came to a startling realization. Before me is no woman but a siren. A creature of old mythology said to lure sailors to their deaths with a sweet, alluring song. Then it hit me: the siren had ensnared me with its haunting melody.
I tried to resist the siren’s charming song. I tried backing away helplessly. However, my feet carried me closer to the edge of the water. I tumbled into the sand, unable to look away from the enchanting devil of the sea.
The siren came closer, her bewitching song haunting my ears and drowning all sensible thoughts. I could feel the sea’s pull in my heart and soul, the overwhelming urge to surrender myself to the depths.
However, in the end, I lost the battle to the siren’s song and stepped into the water as deeply as possible. The siren then proceeded to drag me under the waves. The moon shone an eerie glow on the sea while the waves sang its haunting lullaby of deep and ancient power. I had always feared the sea, but tonight, it had claimed me as its own. I left without a struggle and forever was lost to the inky depths of the cruel, unforgiving sea.
