Work Text:
False had expected the walls of her doppelganger's tower to be a lot more explosion resistant, but one tnt was enough to take down the front door and the wall surrounding it.
"Well, that was easy," she mumbled to herself, climbing over the debris and entering the tower.
Bookshelves lined the back wall, and papers and books lay scattered on a small desk.
Aside from that, the room was nearly empty, but two bubble columns bubbled in either corner of the tower.
So she went up to the second floor.
"What the-"
An open cage stood in the middle of the room, dripstone attached to some sort of machine hanging above it. A sign on the wall made her wince.
'EMERGENCY USE ONLY'
The text was glowing, and False tried to shake the feeling of unease that the sign made her feel.
What on Earth had her twin been planning?
She walked around the cage, inspecting it, but, when she tried to take a look at the machine itself, she stepped onto the slap in the middle of the cage. Something clicked, then beeped, and the door closed.
The machine above her buzzed, and she tried to get out, but apparently, her twin had found a way to lock wooden trapdoors, because she couldn't open them.
"Help!" she yelled, knowing no one would hear her. Cogsmeade was a ghost town, with no citizens to come to her aid.
Pain.
Her body tensed at the lightning coursing through her veins, mouth staying open in a silent scream. The machine crackled as electricity shot out of the dripstone. If it didn't hurt so much, False might've even been fascinated by the use of a stone as something to channel energy, but right now, she was too focused on the pain to think about much else.
Every few seconds the pain would ease, and another scream would escape her lips before she convulsed again as more electricity hit her for what felt like an eternity, before repeating again.
"False? You in there?" a voice broke through the ringing in her ears. Sausage .
"Help!" she yelled, though she could barely recognize her own voice, raw from screaming.
Sausage came up the bubble elevator, and gasped at the sight in front of him.
He hit a button on the wall, but it didn't stop the feeling of being hit by lightning over and over again.
"What do I do?!" Sausage yelled.
"Do something !"
Sausage placed a few blocks, then swung his pickaxe at the machine, though he was careful not to let the dripstone drop.
The lightning stopped, though False was still trembling, even as Sausage pulled her out of the machine.
"What happened?"
"I-" She coughed. "I don't know. I just found this machine and I got stuck."
"Good thing I needed iron for a beacon, then."
"Thank you," she said, wiping away some of the tears that had started rolling down her cheeks involuntarily.
"Of course! I'm from Sanctuary! I help!"
She chuckled. "Gosh, I need a nap."
