Work Text:
A ray of light emerged from a crack in the window blinds, shining directly onto Emu's face, drawing her into consciousness. The final remnants of whatever dreamland she landed herself into began fading, reality pricking at the corners of her eyes. Eyebrows furrowing, she dug the heel of her foot into the futon sprawled out on the ground and stretched her limbs out like a starfish. The hum-buzz of fluorescent light drowned out the uncharacteristic silence of her room, as well as the occasional morning chirps of the crickets outside. Letting her body ease back into the soft mattress below her, she sleepily flopped her body over to look the other way, and oh—the sight almost melts her very heart.
There they were, the ones she holds near and dear to her heart, all pressed together on the otherwise large bed, practically rendering them into a burrito pile. Emu suppressed a giggle, not wanting to wake any of them yet. It was early, and even though she usually woke up first regardless, it was still only 7:00 AM, so she figured they should get more sleep (mainly because she loves to adore them at every chance she can get.) Nene was the first one she saw, her cheek pressed against Emu's arm. Even though she's dead asleep, she still looks exhausted, so Emu makes a mental note to start rapidly texting her to go to sleep every time she feels like Nene is staying up late on her console. Nene's messy bed hair also seemed to wrap around Emu's arm, causing her to immediately begin to sift her fingers through the diva's hair upon notice. Being able to weave her hands along Nene's soft locks not only provided for a superior sensory experience (seriously, what products does she use?), but also provided her an overwhelming wave of calm to wash over her body. Sure, Emu was an absolute unit in the energy department, but in moments like these, the utter tranquility of the scene was simply too much to give up.
Making his presence known, Rui subconsciously adjusted his position in his sleep. His head was tucked firmly into the softness of Nene's hair, only making the pop of purple hair visible to Emu. Unfortunately, since Nene was already coiled up around Emu's arms, she couldn't reach over to pet his hair without waking either of them up. Sighing softly, she opted to simply admire him from afar. They had completely opposite routines when waking up—it had only taken around a minute or two for Emu to get used to waking up from her slumber, however it usually took Rui a good two hours to fully boot back up. Always being the last to wake up, he usually just latches onto the person closest to him to use as a portable heater (which is currently Nene.) She always insists that Rui should just get up and unstick to her, however Emu always notices a fond glint in Nene's eyes when she looks at him. She wouldn't be found dead admitting that she found Rui's catlike clinginess adorable out loud, however it was evident to Emu and everyone else that she wouldn't trade his little tendencies for the world, and neither would anyone else in their little burrito blanket. Longing to move the hair obscuring Rui's face from her vision, she resorted to just imagining how he'd look instead—probably messy, but with that feeling of complete relaxation always obvious with the lack of creases in his skin, completely untouched by any outside forces. She admired how he could sleep so peacefully, really, with some of those ideas hes been cooking up. Fondness tugs at her lips, peeking over to see a patch of blonde hair roll over and squish them all closer together.
Tsukasa's fingers were tangled in Nene's, albeit looking a bit comical as his arm was entirely draped above Rui's head to get closer to Nene's hand. Emu adjusted his arm position to be more comfortable, knowing that not even a rocket taking off would be able to jostle him out of slumber. She didn't let go of his forearm, however—she noticed that it was really warm, like a melty marshmallow at a camp fire. Another note for Emu—compare him to a marshmallow more often. Usually, he would be snoring at decibels not comprehensible with the human ear, however any noise he could be making was drowned out, considering his face was pressed against Rui's back. It was jarring to see someone as jovial as Tsukasa so silent and still. This unexpected sight definitely wasn't unwelcome, though. Again, she couldn't see his face due to Rui's back covering the majority of Tsukasa from her sight, but she assumed that his face was all squishy like Nene's. She always admired his determination to bring extravagant shows to life with his acting skills, shining a big spotlight onto their group as a whole. He, as well as Rui and Nene, helped Emu grant one of her biggest dreams, which is to put smiles on everyones faces, and it filled her with a sparkling, hopeful feeling in her chest.
She loved to shine so brightly that her energy emitted from herself to the others around her, however moments like these was a respite to those joy-filled energy packed days. Emu held every single day she spent with the others on the Wonder Stage close to her heart, even if they were small quiet moments like these. Even if she wasn't excitedly chirping ideas or spouting out onomatopoeia to liven up any organism around her, the warmth in her heart in these talkless moments was no different than if they were all awake and at max energy. No matter how many words were exchanged (if any at all), she would still love them all the same, and knew that they all felt the same too. It didn't have to be loud or quiet at all times, because what matters the most to her is that they're all enjoying the moment regardless. Of course, it's probably difficult to have a blast when you're asleep, but the most Emu can hope for is that they're all having wonderous dreams that can kickstart their day the best way possible. Feeling a yawn coming on, she came to the conclusion that it was best to let her dreams engulf her for a bit more.
Tucking her head back into the crook of Nene's neck, she pressed her eyes back shut, thinking of all the possible ways her and her lovers could spend their day today before her dreams embraced her for the second time.
