Chapter Text
Adora and Catra return to the barracks after investigating the alarm, which turned out to be just a drill. The atmosphere is a bit awkward, and Adora can't help but ponder the unfinished conversation they had earlier.
As they settle back into their shared space, Adora breaks the silence. "Catra, about what we were talking about earlier..."
Catra sighs and looks away, not eager to revisit the topic. "Adora, can't we just leave it for now? It's not that important."
Adora hesitates but eventually agrees. "Alright..."
There's a feeling lingering in the air.
Adora, perceptive of Catra's gloominess, decides to respect her friend's current mood and leaves her be. Meanwhile, Catra is left alone with her thoughts. She can't help but mutter to herself, "Why was I even about to tell her? Its not like she would even feel the same."
Half an hour passes by.
Catra lays in the cot, her head on the pillow where Adora usually rests. Her thoughts are a whirlwind as she stares at the bunk above.
Adora stands in the hallway, taking a deep breath to gather the courage she needs. She knows this conversation won't be easy, but it's long overdue. Her heart races, and she reminds herself of all the times they've been through together, the camaraderie they share, and the unspoken emotions that have lingered between them. With newfound determination, she quietly steps inside, ready to finally address the feelings that have been simmering beneath the surface.
Adora enters the room and sits down at the edge of the cot, near Catra's feet.
Catra's voice is groggy as she asks, "What do you want?"
Adora looks at her, her eyes filled with a mix of worry and determination. She replies, "I want to talk, Catra."
Catra shifts to her side facing away from Adora remaininghuddled up. "About what?"
Adora takes a deep breath, her gaze unwavering. "About everything, about… us."
Catra can feel the nervous tension in the air as she sits up and scoots closer to Adora. She leaves a gap between her and Adora. It's a moment that's been a long time coming, and her heart pounds in her chest. She takes a deep breath, trying to steady her voice. "Adora," she begins, her voice trembling just slightly.
"There's something I need to tell you, something I've been feeling for a while."
Catra stares at the floor and takes a deep breath.
Catra's voice wavers slightly as she gathers her thoughts. "Adora, I... I've felt something for a while now, and I didn't know how to put it into words. But I think... I just want you to stay here… with me, Adora. More than just as a friend."
Adora's eyes widen in surprise, and for a moment, she's at a loss for words. But then a warm smile spreads across her face. "Catra," she says softly, "I think I've felt the same way for a long time."
Catra kooks over at Adora, locking eyes for a moment before looking back down at the ground.
They sit for a moment in silence.
Adora lifts her hand and slowly rests it into Catras hands, their fingers interlacing like a venus flytrap.
Catra takes a deep breath and slowly leans over, resting her head on Adora's shoulder, closing her eyes. Adora's heart races as she wraps her arm around Catra, pulling her close. They sit in silence, feeling the warmth of each other's presence, and Catra can't help but purr softly as she nuzzles against Adora's shoulder.
