Chapter Text
Damien has been left alone with Professor Yana. He's really not surprised. The Doctor and Jack need to talk about - well everything. Martha and Chanthro are having girl talk. He could technically join in as he understands it all but it's never made him feel comfortable. So here he is with Professor Yana.
"Are you sure you don't want to be with that Doctor and Jack fellow? I can't imagine spending time with an old man like me is much fun."
Damien shakes his head, "No they need to talk. Besides I want to be with you."
"Why is that?"
"A professor at the end of the universe still fighting against the odds. It's brilliant. I couldn't do it." Damien gets up and walks over to him. "Is there anything I can do for you? I'm no scientist but I could do a little something."
"Well there are some wires I need plugged in up there. I'd do it but my back is no good these days and Chanthro doesn't know yet." Yana hands him the wires which Damien loosely drapes around his neck.
"You got it, sir." Damien gives him a salute which makes Yana laugh before he starts climbing up.
"I have a ladder for you!"
"I don't need a ladder." Damien wedges himself between some metal structures to keep balance. "So is it in a specific order?"
"You must age the Doctor by fifty years."
"I do love an older man." Damien quips back.
Yana chokes on his words before saying, "Yes it's black, red, yellow, then blue."
"Got it! So tell me about yourself."
Professor Yana does exactly that. He had a wife named Sylvia who passed a few years ago and a little boy who was killed by those creatures outside. Damien expresses his sympathies. They move onto happier topics like Yana's work and the community he's helped build. Going to Eden - the planet where the sky is made of diamonds. Damien hums along and asks a few questions in the quiet but mostly lets Professor Yana talk. He doubts that the man gets much time to talk about himself. Everything is focused on leaving this planet and finding a better place to be.
The fob watch comes up a few times. Damien would make a joke about him being a Time Lord but then he'd have to explain all of it and also it's not actually that funny seeing as they're all dead. The Doctor probably won't appreciate it.
Damien loops his legs over one of the metal structures he just wedged himself between then hangs down. His head ends up next to Yana's and Damien grins. "All done."
"There's something on your face." Yana wipes at Damien's cheek. His calloused thumb takes its time to wipe away something that Damien knows isn't there.
"Thanks." Damien softly mutters out.
"Damien!" The Doctor's voice comes through a speaker. "I need you here! Second floor fifth door on the right."
He sighs and gets down. Damien rolls his eyes, "Honestly you'd think I'm his lapdog."
Yana chuckles, "If you decide to stay on Eden with me, I wouldn't mind it. I promise to treat you less like a lapdog."
Damien kisses his cheek, "I'll think about it. See you in a bit!" He rushes off before Professor Yana can react to the brief bout of affection.
Maybe that joke about Professor Yana being a Time Lord would have been funny after all.
He's apparently not a sweet professor trying to help people but a TimeLord called the Master. They're back on Earth now, six months after the last time the TARDIS landed. Currently they're walking under a bridge and trying to make sense of it all.
"He wants to talk to you." The Doctor says, handing over Martha's phone. "I don't know why."
"Alright." Damien takes the phone and puts it up to his ear. "What do you want?"
"I was hoping you'd be a bit more pleasant. You did kiss me."
"On the cheek."
"Yes well I was thinking we could try again. Maybe something a bit more passionate."
"What do you want?"
"You'll soon see. Tell your mother I say hello." The Master hangs up.
After learning that the Master really does have Martha's family, they end up forming a bit of a plan over a chip dinner. Damien doesn't eat his, staring at it and poking the chips, and he wonders if this is his fault. His mother is in danger now because of him. Sure, they're not exactly on speaking terms anymore but he still loves her in the way only a child could love their mother. If something happens to her because of him then Damien isn't sure what he'd do.
Jack punches his shoulder lightly, "So why did you say on the cheek?"
"I kissed him on the cheek."
"You kissed an evil maniac on the cheek but I can't get a kiss?"
"It was before I knew he's an evil maniac. He was still Professor Yana."
The Doctor snorts slightly, "And you tell me off for kissing people."
"A friendly peck on the cheek is different to you trying to eat Marie Antoinette's face off!"
The Doctor pouts, "At least I didn't kiss the Master."
"You're a bitch."
A sudden sharp pain begins right behind Damien's right eye. He curses under his breath as tears begin to stream down his face as the pain spreads through his head. Martha grabs him as he falls forward onto his hands. Now is not the time for a migraine.
"Do you have any painkillers on you?" Martha asks quietly.
Damien spits out, "No. Fuck. I was going to restock them then Jack jumped on the ship and the Doctor started flying."
"So it's the Doctor's fault."
"Well if you didn't try to hijack my ship."
"Well if you didn't abandon me!"
"Both of you shut up!" Martha yells. She looks down at Damien who flinches, "Sorry."
"It's fine. I'm fine."
"Can't we get him some?"
"No. We'd have to produce ID and the chameleon circuit will stop working." Jack explains. He rubs Damien's back, "Just try to sleep. I'll keep watch."
"Okay. I'm sorry."
"You have nothing to apologise for. I'm sorry for not remembering to keep some on me. Just sleep." The Doctor presses two fingers to Damien's forehead once he's laying down and Damien quickly falls asleep.
Standing on Air Force One and watching the Master play the role of Harold Saxon feels insane. Damien has seen some things with the Doctor. A sheet of skin trying to kill people with the sun, robots dressed like French nobles wanting to kidnap a princess, and even literal Satan.
Somehow this is the worst.
Damien knows exactly who the Master is now. What he has done and what he might do yet the Master is acting like nothing is wrong. He's simply just Harold Saxon, the new Prime Minister and the first person to make contact with aliens in a peaceful manner. Nothing is amiss.
Watching the president die should scare Damien. However he's more focused on Jack and the Doctor sneaking up on the Master and his pounding headache. He was going to join them so they'd have three chances but his head is swimming and there are tears staining his cheeks from the pain. The Master looks over at him and Martha. They're wearing the keys.
He can't see them, right?
Damien swiftly gets that answer by the Master grabbing the Doctor and throwing him to the floor. The key falls from around his neck and the Toclafane on board point their little guns at him.
"I recommend you three take off the keys. I'd hate for something to happen to Doctor Jones' family." The Master snaps his fingers. Martha's family are dragged out by guards.
Martha and Damien take off their keys. Jack does the same and jumps at the Master in an attempt to get the key around his neck. The Doctor takes the opportunity to scramble up to his feet and he runs over to them both. He whispers something to Martha and she disappears.
The Master shoots Jack with a laser. Damien rushes to his side and grabs onto Jack. Even if he will come back just fine, Damien doesn't want him to feel alone. He holds Jack's hands and smiles at him. It should be the first thing he sees when he wakes up.
"Kill ten percent of Earth's population and find Doctor Jones!" The Master snarls out. The Toclafane disappear to carry out their orders.
Guards drag Damien away from Jack. He kicks and attempts to fight them off but one against four is not a fair fight. They drag him out of the main room and one hits him in the back of the head, rendering him unconscious.
Damien is going to kill the Master.
He wakes up in a bedroom. It's nice. Far too nice for a prisoner. Damien attempts to get up off the plush bed but he falls to the ground. There's a a large chain attached to his left ankle, keeping him chained to the bed by one of its posts.
"Fuck." Damien gets up and tests how far he can walk. He can make it to a desk next to the bed and that's about it. There's a wardrobe and a chest of drawers at the foot of the bed. A door faces directly opposite the bed so it's probably the door out. Another door is to the right by the desk. Maybe it leads to a bathroom.
The door opposite the bed opens. Martha's mum walks in dressed like a maid with a tray. She walks over to the desk and sets it down.
"Tea, some sandwiches, and a glass of water."
"What's happening? Are you okay?"
She looks at him, "My son is somewhere on Earth, one of my daughters is locked up here with me, and the other has been sent to Earth by the Doctor. I am being forced to play a maid whilst my ex-husband is locked in a cell. Do you think I'm okay?"
"No."
She sighs, "The Master will come see you soon."
"It's not like I'm going anywhere." Damien gestures to the chain.
"At least you get a bed." She leaves on that note and the door shuts.
Damien walks over to the desk. He picks up the mug of tea and sips at it before setting it down. Damien is far from being able to make demands - not that he's going to anyways - but he doesn't drink his tea with regular milk. The sandwiches look downright depressing and he can't trust the water. Damien just sits on the bed and waits. Whatever the Master wants with him can't be good.
The Master comes in after a few minutes. He looks at the desk then at Damien.
"What do you want with me?" Damien demands.
"To study you."
"Never met a trans guy or something?"
"Many. That's not why I want to study you."
"Then why?"
The Master walks over to him and grabs Damien's face, "The drums are quieter around you. When we touch."
"What drums?"
He places his forehead against Damien's. A migraine begins to form and he pulls his head back, "What the fuck is wrong with you?"
"What?"
"You gave me a fucking migraine you ass!"
The Master lets go of him, "Eat your food." He quickly leaves the room.
Damien can't reach the light switch next to the door. He gets into the bed under the covers and pulls them over his head. Hopefully the Master doesn't come back.
