Hero And Villain.

Summary:

Once they all returned to Quantico, to the bullpen, they were all wearing shared looks of Sadness, Guilt, and Remorse. They had to deal with the fact that Spencer was slowly breaking for 10 years and not one of them noticed it. There was only one thing running through their head as they attended that funeral.

Notes:

So I had this thought at 1 am- if you want a more detailed version let me know, don't be afraid to comment and let me know what you think about it.

Work Text:

Spencer was done. He was done trying to save the people that hurt him, so it was no surprise when he snapped and went on a spree.

He managed to kill a total of 125 of his bullies before his team eventually found him, more like they found him and sent Morgan and Hotch in to detain him. IF you couldn’t tel, that didn't blow over well with Spencer.

“What are you doing, Pretty Boy? Aren’t you tired?” IT was clear that Morgan was trying to sooth him with a nickname he knew well or to catch him off guard, this only seemed to anger him more.

“God, what are you doing here? I didn’t think that you were invited.” Spencer had spat out venomously. That nickname brought up so many memories of how they pretend to care, how they pretend to be interested, how they pretend to care.

“Pretty Boy, Reid, Spencer, you don’t have to do this. You know we love you too much to let you continue to break yourself like this-”

“Here you go again, pretending like you love me, when just beneath the surface, you’re convinced that you’re above me.” Spencer’s anger was boiling inside of him and everything was boiling to the surface. He just wanted them to feel what he felt, how bad was that?! He just wanted revenge.

Hotch was the one to speak up next trying to defuse the situation. “Dig deep into the past Spencer, I’ve never been one for doing things half assed. If we can be the ones to save you and stop you from doing this then you know that we would be here for you. So just put the gun and knife down and take me hand?”

They were trying to mess with him weren’t they? Hotch thought he was a hero?! Did Morgan- They had to know that they were the cause of this. He was glad he had his next victim hidden away in another area, the only reason he was here was to get a few things to.. Liven up his part.

“You think you’re a hero?” He scoffed before continuing. “And they’ll tell you, you are.” He glazed over at Morgan,

“So Stoic and handsome,” He then glanced back at Hotch and mocked him. “And you’ve come so far.”

Morgan tried to inch closer to Spencer before moving back as he saw Spencer’s grip on his gun changed. “Under all that angst and anger is a-”

Spencer spoke on top of Morgan in his next sentence.

“A beating, human heart!”

“A DYING BROKEN HEART!”

Spencer was getting to his breaking point and he knew that if he crossed that line it would be the end of Spencer Reid. He was pretty sure that that version of himself had been gone for a long while so he thought of this as his funeral.

“I recognize that you’re upset. I know they did you wrong.” It surprised Spencer when he heard that come from him and he moved closer to Hotch so they could hear him whisper, ‘Oh you know nothing of me.’

Hotch and Morgan had both put their guns away and held their hands up to show that they would hurt him, this caused the genius to scoff at them and put his knife away, leaving himself with a gun.

“Spencer I know you think this is the best path for you to go down and I know you think they deserve this but you need to think about what you're doing to yourself, I know you and I can guarantee that you would never do this. So will you please put down the gun and come with us.”

Hotch’s tone was sincere and Spencer almost believed it until he saw Morgan slowly reaching for the taser inside of his right boot.

“So, you’re back at it again? Trusting and Manipulating every word I’ve said?”

Morgan saw where Spencer's eyes went and straightened back up before trying to slightly defuse the situation. “Come on Pretty Boy, you know that’s not true. We're just trying to help you- let me help you!”

“YOU ARE NOT MY HERO!” The outburst took Hotch and Morgan off guard. They looked at the one SSA Dr Spencer Reid and saw a Depressed and broken version of him. They also saw anger that riddled his skin and created veins for the amount of anger cooped up inside of his small body.

Spencer started to talk again but his tone held no anger, if anything, it was sadness and a touch of anger. “You don’t know how it felt.. What else could I do with the cards that I’ve been dealt..”

They both looked at the younger man in front of them with the look of Pity that filled Spencer with rage again.

That’s when it happened, Hotch couldn’t figure out what happened. One minute Spencer was standing there breaking down, the next he was on the floor bleeding out from a gunshot wound. He looked at Morgan and saw his gun out. It turned out that Spencer lunged at him ready to stab him, he didn’t even notice that Spencer switched his gun for a knife.
