Postlude: The Raven
Somewhere in the Nine Realms – Somewhere in Time
The Raven flapped his great, inky black wings, soaring high in the sky, flying fast and playing the air currents. Every so often, he folded his wings and divebombed down to the ground, pulling up at the last minute and soaring back up on an updraft, gliding and frolicking in the air. He could hear words being whispered in the background but he ignored them. That was no longer his role. He was not a spy anymore and he was not doing anybody’s bidding, and he refused to cause harm to anyone. All he wanted to do was just live his life and fly free. And now he could. So, he did.
The Raven laughed happily, joyful that he had regained his wings. He had missed this. And now he felt like he finally had everything he desired. He had the love of his life, his son, his unconventional but fiercely loving family, and he even had Huginn back.
He flew through Jotunheim, looking for the jötunn family that he had once spied upon with envy, seeing how they might have developed and grown in the centuries since he last took wing. He flew and flew and flew, free and unafraid.
Until he realized that he’d flown so far that he didn’t know where he was. The whispering was louder now, and he heard snippets of the conversations. He recognized some of the voices, and it made fear bloom in his heart.
“Muninn… must be captured…”
“Ægir must pay for what he’s done…”
“They will not escape.”
The Raven’s heart pounded in fear. He flapped his wings harder and harder, trying to get home. But he still did not know where he was. Where was he? Why couldn’t he find his way home? He was Memory. He Remembered everything. He always Remembered his way home. How did he get lost?
“Eddie!” The Raven called out, croaking in fear and desperation, flying harder and faster. He needed to get home. He needed to get to safety. “Eddie!”
