From FanFiction Library Discord server’s Weekly Drabbles!

Prompt for Week #31: “You can’t run forever.”

This was already made long long ago but now I decided to merge it into this series to keep track! Weekly drabble challenges are a bit more different than the daily ones, one of which has a rule that states to anonymously use character names like “Character A”, “B”, or “C” when addressing to people to not have bias in the weekly contest. But since that week is long done, I’m allowed to post it here and use the names/fandom I intended to write it for with the prompt in mind! So enjoy! <33

Work Text:

Shane knew—knew in that bone-chilling terrified way—that the moment he heard that grating laugh echoing down the dank, wooden hallway, he was fucked.

Ryan, unsurprisingly, looked terrified at the sound and his hands shook whilst grabbing one of Shane’s arms. “S-Shane? W-What- who was that?!” He stuttered out, quickly looking around to find the source of the voice.

Shane thought he had enough time. Cherishing the memories he’d accumulated with the precious friendship he so carefully formed with Ryan. He thought this life he cultivated for himself would stay within the safe bubble of his satisfied happiness, with Ryan enjoying it together with him.

He should’ve known it wouldn’t last, good things never did with Shane, and his past has come back to bite him in the ass and pay the price.

Ardo’s laugh mellowed out in that uneasy, unsettling way as the humanoid creature came to a stop a few feet from them.

“Oh, Shane, having fun are we~? Why don’t you come back with me and let me in on the fun too~?” Ardo slyly said with that horribly course voice of his reverberating through his throat.

“Shut up, Ardo. You know I won’t and haven’t for two fuckin’ years! That should’ve honestly gotten through your thick skulls that I’m not going anywhere.

“Oh? Not even for your little friend there?” Ryan paled at the creature mentioning him, and Shane grit his teeth in anger. “Let’s be frank here, you knew eventually we were gonna come and drag you back down with us.” Ardo’s shark-like grin turned predatory. “Even if it meant getting rid of anyone blocking our way.”

Shane tensed up, feeling his pulse running a mile a minute, and the power he kept down so hard and hidden suddenly pulse and swell with a need to be released.

“You know you can’t run forever, Madej. So what will it be, hm?”

Shane glanced back, and he knew, knew the moment he looked at Ryan’s eyes that he was gonna do everything he can to protect him, for the one he cares and loves the most, even if it meant going back to the darkness and never coming back.
