Work Text:
Fire Man had a long day at work today. He was showing newcomer robots what to do in the workplace while trying to be calm about it.
Dr Light wouldn’t have wanted to hear that he lost his temper again.
The fire robot headed home. As he went inside he saw Roll about to leave somewhere. She looked tired.
“Hey, Roll. Where you heading?” He asked.
“Going to go get groceries. I really don’t want to but alas” she said with a half laugh and half sigh “they’re hungry and we don’t have anything right now”.
“How about I go get the groceries and you take a break? You deserve it after making the house look spotless every day” Fire Man suggested as Roll smiled.
“I’d like that” she said as she handed him a list with some cash.
“Here’s everything they want” Roll uttered as Fire Man nodded.
The fire robot blinked a few times as he read the list and made a face.
“Do they REALLY need this much sweets? Won’t their digestive systems get all sticky and get stuck?” Roll laughed.
“Dr Light and I will make sure that they don’t eat too much at a time” Fire Man chuckled as he nodded and went back out.
Fire Man made sure to turn the flame on his head off to not disturb anyone or anything in the store. He had his mouth piece on. He didn’t feel like talking much so he just wanted to keep it on.
He folded the list and kept it in his hand along with the money. Fire Man wished he had pockets right now.
He made it into the local grocery store and headed inside. Fire Man grabbed a shopping cart and sighed.
Fire Man honestly didn’t want to be here right now, he was exhausted. But so was Roll. He didn’t want to be selfish and have Roll do this instead of him.
He would feel bad. And besides she already does so much for everyone. Fire Man made his way down the aisles. Grabbing the very specific brands that everyone wanted.
Fire Man was thankful everyone was specific. Or maybe it was Roll knowing exactly what everyone wanted. He wouldn’t know for sure.
Fire Man glanced over at some children who were pointing at him and whispering. Though as always, children are and always will be terrible at whispering. He heard them talk about him. Though it wasn’t anything bad, they were just curious.
Both the children and the fire robot were too scared to approach each other so nothing really happened after that.
Normally Cut Man or Bomb Man would do the talking. They weren’t here though. Dang, Fire Man really needs to get his social anxiety problems straight.
He pulled up to the line for the counter. There were a few people in front who were just buying things quickly. Like a soda or some chips.
Except this one woman with her baby in a stroller. Her cart was as full as Fire Man’s.
Fire Man tried to give his eyes something to look at. He looked around the store, looking at the bricks or some sale signs. Until he made eye contact with the baby in front of him.
Fire Man tried not to look intimidating and gave the baby a small smile, which was probably not even visible since he had his mouth piece on, and gave a small wave.
The baby laughed slightly and waved back. The woman looked down at her child then at Fire Man. The fire robot couldn’t decipher her expression, so his first instinct was to apologize.
“Ah- miss I’m sorry I-“ he stammered before the woman laughed.
“That’s the first time she’s waved at someone! She must really like you!” She exclaimed.
“Oh I don’t know. Aren’t I kind of scary?” Fire Man asked.
“Maybe to some but not to her. Besides you seem really nice. What’s there to be afraid of?” She replied.
Fire Man smiled again, bigger this time.
“Thank you, I really needed that.” The fire robot said, sincerity present in his voice.
The woman smiled.
“No problem. Oh, it’s my turn. I’ll see you around uh…” she said as she paused as though as she were waiting for something.
Your name Fire Man, your name.
“Ah- sorry. I’m Fire Man” the robot said as he awkwardly scratched the back of his neck.
“Nice to meet you” the woman said with a smile as she placed her groceries on the conveyer belt.
“You too” Fire Man said as he looked at the baby again. She was watching cartoons on what he guessed, was her mothers phone.
The woman payed for her groceries and started to leave with the plastic bags in her hands. But then turned back to see the robot one last time.
“I’ll see you around, Fire Man” she said as she began to walk away with her bags and her baby. The baby waved at him one last time.
“I’ll see you too” the robot said as he saw her walk away and smiled, then began to put all of his groceries onto the conveyer belt.
Fire Man payed for the groceries and packed them up quickly and then returned home.
He had trouble opening the door but he managed. The fire robot placed the groceries on the counter and took his mouth piece off with a sigh.
“Hey guys! Can someone help me put the groceries away?” Fire Man exclaimed.
“I can help with that!” Rock said as he helped the fire robot.
“Thanks Rock. I’m gonna go recharge. Long day today” Fire Man said as he looked at Rock with a small smile forming on his face.
“Okay. See ya!” Rock exclaims.
