Hyesoeng felt absolutely wrecked. Just what the hell was he thinking when he decided to accept to come along? Sure the butterfly girl was absolutely stunning, but he could not even make a move or do anything now, because he felt as if he was close to passing out.
He tried to go back to what had brought him to this night, starting with lunch at the cafeteria.
That bastard Changhun Yu had some balls, coming to greet them with no shame after the stunt he and his group had pulled on them during their final round of the tournament. He felt his appetite rushing out the door the moment he saw him. His jaw tensed at the memories of how his words had stirred him up.
He wasn’t the only one fuming with anger apparently.
Next thing he knew, Dohwa was on top of the table and grabbing that asshole by the collar of his shirt, gauntlet out and ready to strike. He understood her, they had made a fool of her with that stupid aphrodisiac. He was sure Dohwa hated his guts for that.
“But that’s why I’m here to apologize.” Poor guy, he was surely shitting himself because he knew damn well how he did not stand a chance in hell against Dohwa. Hyeseong nodded in agreement with him. If anything, he should at least apologize to the girls for that low trick.
“Fine…” Dohwa’s voice sounded full of rage, her words mixed along with a low growl.
“Then apologize to him.” Hyeseong’s head shot up as Dohwa pulled and tossed the ant man towards his side.
“Cause he almost went blind because of you…” She stole a quick glance at Hyeseong, and he saw her lips twitch in anger. Wait a minute, was she angry because of what that idiot had done to him? Well, obviously he was her teammate and all-
“...And you fucked with his self-esteem.” Dohwa snarled at Changhun.
Hyeseong’s eyes opened wide. Not only was she not demanding an apology for herself, but instead making the asshole apologize to him. But she knew he was the trigger to his behavior lately?
“Dohwa…” He let out her name in a whisper, and saw her sensitive ears pick up the sound. She shot him a quick glance, Hyeseong wasn’t sure if he was hallucinating it or if he truly saw the tip of her ears glow the tiniest bit of red.
“And after that!” Dohwa cleared her throat. “You better go and apologize to the girl in group C!” She commanded, diverting the attention from her back to Chunghun.
Hyeseong felt the need to say thanks to her. But before he knew it he was being dragged away but that asshole. Him and Suchan actually, leaving the girls behind. He glanced back, and saw Dohwa’s face confused but still in her annoyed manner.
After that, it was a blur. Chunghun had told them to dress casually because he was treating them to a hot and fun night.
He should’ve seen this coming. And as he sat in front of the three upperclassmen girls, and saw how over the moon the ugly ant beside him was, it clicked in his mind.
‘He just wanted to drink with some girls…’ He thought, scoffing at the guy sitting beside him. How common for a college student. While sipping his beer, he felt a pair of eyes on him, and so called him paranoid but he immediately searched for the source of it.
‘Wow!’ He felt a small blush coming because of how cute the blonde butterfly girl was.
‘Well, since we’re here, we might as well enjoy ourselves.’
Well, that idiot, Chunghun, must certainly be happy now. He faintly heard Suchan being dragged away by that girl, Bidan was it? Not his problem right now, Suchan could keep himself safe. And even if he didn’t, he was sure he heard the voice of their beloved class president, and then her clear footsteps rushing out of the cafe, after she had threatened the truth out of the two girls left with them.
‘Poor dude, if he doesn’t die at the hands of that crazy scientist…He for sure will die at the hands of Huijin.’ He thought while supporting his head a bit with his arm. Lord, drinking mixed drinks was absolutely not the greatest idea he had ever had.
But, maybe it wasn’t that bad. He felt relaxed, a bit sick, but calm nonetheless. He saw through blurred vision, how the blonde girl was approaching him, and the ladybug and the ant were leaving.
‘So, it's just me and her now, huh?’
He sat up a bit, and the beautiful butterfly scooted over closer to him. He smiled, maybe he could have some fun after days of high stress, and that whole pet shop fiasco.
“Hey, so…Are you a grasshopper?” The girl asked, a high pitched tone because of the drinking. Oh God, she was wasted.
Hyeseong wanted to laugh, but this happened to be the moment when the whole drinking finally gave him the grace blow.
He passed out in an instant. And the girl in front of him scoffed.
‘God, he’s so weak with mixed drinks, thanks for the tip Bidan. I’ll make the most out of tonight.’ The girl wrapped her arms around Hyeseong, completely sober.
The rest of her friends were probably all like her, the boys they had chosen to drink with were just very bad at drinking games or had low tolerance, which guaranteed them what they were looking for tonight. Bidan wanted a sample from Suchan, Ladybug wanted a nice night. And her? She wanted an easy catch.
She was in the process of taking Hyeseong out of the restaurant.
‘God, but why are you so heavy?’ She complained, dragging most of Hyeseong around the pavement.
“Damn, grasshopper.” She let out a frustrated sigh.
“He’s a Katydid, you bitch.” The instincts of the butterflies allowed them to keep time perfectly, and to sense danger from far away.
Right now, this butterfly felt danger way too close, and her timing ability marked that it was too late to run away now.
A big scorpion was behind her, hands on her hips and these same hands were covered by a hard-looking exoskeleton. The blonde shivered in fear, she gulped enough to clear her throat and dared to ask the girl in front of her just one thing.
“Who are you?” Her voice came higher than what she intended.
“I could ask you the same thing.” The scorpion girl leaned forward, and the blonde girl finally recognized her. Anyone on campus and in the labs knew about the girl who had been one of the first rescued children insects from Pet Shop. Dohwa Cheon had received a scholarship at Nest like a few others because of her going through the changes of becoming an insect human at such a young age.
“Dohwa Cheon.” Her voice trembled, and she stumbled back, tripping over the Katydid’s body, who continued fast asleep on the floor.
“Damn right, nerd. Now, let me return the question.” Dohwa stepped over Hyeseong’s body, and leaned down, grabbing the girl by her shirt.
“Who the fuck are you? And what the fuck were you doing with Hyeseong?” Dohwa asked, her tone telling the girl to choose her words wisely, as they might be her last. After the events with Pet Shop, it wasn’t an overreaction to say no one from group A was taking the matter of any of them being kidnapped lightly. For Dohwa, Hyeseong marked a line she dared anyone to cross because she was willing to go very far for him.
Not that she would ever tell him that, there was a reason she did not admit to looking for him back at the island.
“I’m so sorry, but he came to the blind date! I swear I didn’t know he was yours!” The girl felt like crying, why the hell had that stupid ant invited boys that were so obviously taken? First that freshman class president. And now a metal scorpion!? Now, she was sure, the boys probably had not even known it was a blind date either. Oh, just her luck.
“Huh?” Dohwa arched an eyebrow, judging by her reaction, the girl was probably safe. Now, looking a little more carefully at the situation, this looked like a normal college hookup. Except for one thing…
Hyeseong was in no state to call any shots or even say no if things turned south. That was enough for Dohwa to decide her next move.
“Damn right, he is, so I better see your butterfly ass fly away from here at the count of three.” Dohwa played along, and that Katydid better be thankful later.
“Yes! Yes, ma’am! Right away.” If she was even a bit tipsy before, now she was fully sober. She rushed away from there, even before Dohwa started counting, promising to never go on group blind dates anymore.
Dohwa clicked her tongue and shook her head in the direction the girl had run to. Then, she heard a couple of snickers behind her. Daun and Hyeona were giggling at her, they were tipsy to say the least, swaying side to side while supporting each other. Dohwa rolled her eyes, she was not even going to deal with them now.
“If any of you say a word, I’ll add you both to my hit list for the next tournament.” That was enough for the two giggling balls behind her to stop. Damn, Dohwa was scary.
She grabbed Hyeseong and carried him like a potato sack, throwing him with no care over her shoulder. Then, she started walking back.
Daun and Hyeona stopped laughing but smiled a bit at the shy and almost faded tint of red in the Scorpion’s ears. She might be scarier than Huijin when teased, but they enjoyed the slight reactions they rarely got from her.
‘It's truly only a matter of when for group A, no longer a matter of how.’ Hyeona thought, she smiled at herself and looked at Daun beside her, who was still hugging her arm and supporting herself. She smiled to herself and continued walking behind Dohwa.
On the way to the dorms, they ended up meeting everyone else from class and inviting them to drink more with them. Dohwa didn’t really care, as long as she got to drink more and make sure Hyeseong made it home in one piece. She felt a stir on her shoulder and noticed the young man was probably awakening.
‘Right on time,’ She thought while she entered the room. She dropped Hyeseong near the table, albeit not gently to the naked eye, yet she made sure his back and head didn’t hit the floor because she knew he must be having a horrible time because of the mixed drinks. Even just the smell of their essence combined had been making her a bit lightheaded while carrying him there.
Hyeseong woke up about half an hour later, to the sound of laughter and the clicks of beer cans. He found himself surrounded by his classmates.
“How the fu-” He began to ask.
“You really know how to mess up your chances with a girl don’t you?” He heard a mocking voice behind him and turned to see Dohwa finishing what seemed to be her fourth can of beer. Her face was evidently flushed, her lips red from the drinking, and her eyelids heavy from the intoxication, yet the smug smile on her face made her look so…
‘Wow, she’s hot.’ Hyeseong almost kicked himself as soon as that thought crossed his head. ‘Am I still drunk?’ He began to question himself, and also what the hell was that idiot talking about? What chances had he ruined with a girl?
Then it all came back to him, the apology, the blind date masked as an apology, that bastard Chunghun…
And the butterfly girl who had probably run away after he passed out.
“I found you passed out on a blind date. Be grateful it was me and not someone else,” Dohwa said, and Hyeseong once again felt grateful, because that meant none else had to know-
“That way instead of the whole school knowing, only our class will…” Dohwa snickered at how fast his growing smile faded, and he realized once again that he was in a room full of people. And that those people were indeed his classmates.
Oh, now he wanted to pass out again. Dohwa got up and kneeled down behind him, patting, more like smacking, his back in a mix of comfort, and a lot of mocking.
“Relax, long legs. You’ll get your chance.”
“Shut the fuck up.” He replied. But Dohwa only continued to laugh. Even when Suchan and Huijin arrived she made sure they knew of his embarrassment. Hyeseong noticed those two a bit weird, but right now he had bigger problems to deal with.
Dohwa grabbed a beer bottle and Hyeseong sensed danger. He had gone through this many times before.
Dohwa’s tail snaked its way behind his neck as he noticed the bottle of beer in her hand a bit too late. Soon, she was making him chug down the drink, like many times before. He had only been confident in his drinking during the blind date due to these specific situations. He had developed a high tolerance for alcohol thanks to Dohwa’s savage ways.
Soon, the bottle was empty, and he was pushing Dohwa out of the way.
“He he” She giggled, clearly drunk. Then she did something that if Hyeseong’s face wasn’t red enough due to the alcohol already, then after that it could compete against any shade of red and win by a mile.
Dohwa licked the tip of the bottle, her tongue swirling around the circle. Then lifted it up, to get a few drops of the liquid out, some drops fell down her chin and slided down her neck. All the while Hyeseong was watching.
‘Fuck…’ He gulped and grabbed a pillow and covered his lap. Great timing, you bastard. He blamed the alcohol.
But truly, he no longer knew if that’s what it was. Dohwa was probably the girl he was closest with on campus. Huijin felt more like a sister to him, but Dohwa? She was…
“What are you looking at, huh?” When the hell had she gotten so close? If she moved any closer, she would be practically on his lap.
“You know, that blind date was not the apology I was waiting for that asshole to give you…” Dohwa began to talk, and Hyeseong was making the biggest effort to stay in his common sense, while he felt that familiar feeling of a tail around his waist. Was trapping him with her tail a new habit? Screw Hana, because he had learned from that day at the tournament just how strong her grip was.
And how much he liked it, and how much it turned him on. He had panicked that day because he was in an awful mood, but the feeling of her tail around him felt so…
“Fuck Dohwa, what are you doing?” He asked, breathless.
“I don’t like you going on blind dates, got it?” Dohwa stated, locking eyes with him, so fucking close.
“Had I known that jackass was going to drag you with him, I would’ve never asked him to apologize to you…but” She pouted, a habit she had when she was drunk. Such a habit in this situation was deadly, Hyeseong felt his heart doing backflips in his chest.
“I hate when you look down, you idiot. So, stop looking down on yourself, ok?” She loose her grip a bit, and Hyeseong felt a bit more self-controlled that way.
“You’re strong, Hyeseong.” She admitted. And now Hyeseong was sure he was dreaming and probably still passed out in that restaurant because no way in a rat’s ass would Dohwa ever admit that.
“But, I’m stronger.” She said with a smirk.
Ok, maybe he wasn’t dreaming. Which meant he no longer had an excuse for what he was about to do.
Dohwa’s tail was still around his waist, albeit just resting there, the rest of his classmates were busy with drinking games, and Suchan and Huijin were in their own little world, absent from any other movement around them.
Dohwa was still looking at his face, pouting and muttering something about ‘ugly flying bicth’ he didn’t even care at the moment. His only concern now was…
That damn pout.
Dohwa was so wasted right now, and maybe it was the alcohol making her stare so much at Hyeseong’s face. His eyes, nose, and…
His lips.
Before she could make the move herself. She saw Hyeseong lean down and connect their lips, his hand grabbing her neck from behind and pulling her closer. She closed her eyes on instinct. Her tail’s grip hardened and she pulled him closer. She heard the low moan that escaped his lips and was muted by their kiss.
A couple of minutes went by, minutes where neither cared if someone turned to their corner and saw what was going on. Thankfully, everyone was almost passed out at this point, and those who weren’t would be too drunk to even remember in the morning if they saw anything.
Hyeseong pulled away from the kiss. Their lips were swollen and red, and a thin saliva thread connected their mouths. They gasped for air and looked each other in the eye once again.
After, everything went black, and the dorm was full of passed-out drunk college freshmen.
Something very ordinary for such an unordinary college.
The next morning came with terrible headaches and hangovers. And two pairs that had slept beside each other, one after exchanging promises to be together for as long as they could.
And the second after exchanging something far more intimate. Neither Hyeseong nor Dohwa mentioned it, but Hyeseong decided to not accept more offers for blind dates. And Dohwa? She found another reason why she loved having Hyeseong as her drinking buddy.
