Chapter 3: ur so pretty

Chapter Text

Kyouka felt like the neediest loser on Earth as she watched Momo take notes on how Bakugou was doing Kirishima's hair.

She didn't know what had happened since she had gone on her internship mission with Gang Orca but, whatever it was, it had brought Kirishima and Momo together.

And she should be happy for Momo.

She might be the sweetest person alive but making friends, true friends, always seemed just out of her reach. Personally, Kyouka didn't get it, Momo was like the perfect friend. She was nice and smart and thoughful and pretty and a thounsand more things. How could anyone not wanna spend all their time with her, that was the real mystery to Kyouka.

So, she should have been esctatic to see another person finally appreciating Momo just like she deserved. Instead, she wished they didn't touch or laugh so much together.

Momo deserved all the good friends ever but Kyouka was her best friend. There were things that should be reserved for her exclusively.

That was how it worked. But now, Kirishima seemed to be out for her spot.

And the fact that Bakugou was acting like a freaking spooked wild cat around the redhead just confirmed that she wasn't seeing things. God, being as emotionally stunted as Bakugou was new low.

Kyouka signed with resignation as she watched them.

'You really know what you're doing, Bakugou.' Momo praised him as she followed his movements.

'I fucking told you so, Ponytail.'

'How did you learn to do hair?'

'His parents are big fashion hot shots!' Kirishima interrumpted gleefuly. 'He's had his hair done for photoshoots like a million times.'

'Oi, Shitty Hair! What the fuck?'

'What? It's something super cool.' Kirishima winked at Kyouka while Bakugou couldn't see him.

Bakugou groaned. 'You two better not tell any of the other idiots about this or I'll kill you.'

'You just don't want Mina asking you to braid her hair too.' Kyouka snorted.

'That pink bitch changes her braids every fucking week! I'm not fucking doing that!'

That made Momo giggle and Kyouka felt her heart melting.

Damn, she was cute.

'But Yaomomo should get braiding privileges now that she knows your obscure backstory.' Kirishima spoke like Bakugou's parents really were something out of this world.

To raise Bakugou, they had to be.

'Obscure backstory? You're turning into a real superhero cliché, Blasty.' That earned Kyouka a weak glare, he liked being called a hero too much to be mad.

'I'll braid Ponytail's hair but I'm not fucking touching your wack dye disaster with a ten feet pole, Mimi.'

Kyouka snorted again, what a freaking hypocrite. 'It's cool, man.'

'Maybe later for me?' Momo said as she played with one of her stimming toys.

'Whatever.'

'Well, then we did what we came here for, I think Kyouka and I should go and leave you to it.' Momo got up from the floor.

'Ponytail, stop being so fucking polite all the time. If you're tired of being around people, just fucking say it.'

That made Momo laugh. 'I'll try.'

'Are we still on for tea later, Yaomomo?' Kirishima asked, which made Bakugou glare at him.

Momo seemed to notice. 'Kyouka will acompany me, if that's okay with you.'

'You got it, dude!' Kirishima beamed at them. 'We'll talk later!'

'Yeah, we will. Have a good evening, boys.'

As they closed the door behind them, Kyouka would swear she saw Kirishima going to sit on Bakugou's lap.

Figures.

'Sorry for saying you would accompany me to make tea later without asking first, Kyouka.' Momo said as they walked towards her room. 'I just thought Bakugou would appreciate the excuse.'

'So, you have noticed?' Kyouka asked with amusement. 'Look at you and your social skills!'

'Yeah, yeah, Kirishima is helping me understand people better. It's ironic, really, when he himself hasn't noticed it yet.'

'Some people can be really short-sighted.' Kyouka sighed.

'Yeah, I agree.'

Kyouka bit her lower lip. 'Is that why you've been spending so much time together lately?'

'Well, it's because we are friends and I enjoy spending time with him.'

'That's good.' Kyouka nodded dumbly.

Fuck, why couldn't she just say what she wanted to say?

'You don't like him better than me, right?' Kyouka hated how small her voice sounded.

'What? Kyouka! How could you think that?'

This was so embarrassing.

'Well, you let him make tea with you and you go out together a lot and you let him touch you when you so rarely like that and yeah, that.'

Kyouka wanted the earth to swallow her whole like right now.

Momo just looked at her, unmoving.

'And like there's nothing wrong with any of that but I wanted to know if... Ugh, I'm being such an asshole right now. Being all weird just because you have a new friend. God, sorry.'

That seemed to prompt Momo into action. 'Hey, hey, it's okay, just tell me clearly why is that bothering you so much. I don't care if it's weird or silly but it's upsetting you and I want to make it okay.'

Kyouka smiled guiltily. 'You're being too nice, Momo.'

'I like being nice to you so, c'mon, tell me about it.'

Kyouka buffed. 'Okay so, basically, I'm really jealous of Kirishima because I want to be the person you're the closest with.'

'But you are. I thought you knew that already.' Momo looked at her with confused furrowed eyebrows. 'You are my best friend and my favourite person, Kyouka. I like Kirishima, he's very important to me right now but I'll always like you more than anybody else.'

'I'll always like you more than anybody else too.' Kyouka felt like the silliest loser on earth for ever doubting her place in Momo's life.

Momo nodded, satisfied to see the issue was resolved. 'Then, it's settled.'

'Yeah, it is.'

Kyouka walked with Momo to the kitchen in silence feeling her shoulders lighter than before.

There were still things that needed to be said, but this was good for now.
