Chapter Text
Did I somehow anger the gods? The thought crossed Izuku’s mind as he watched All Might deflate after saving him from the slime villain. There was no other explanation for all this bad luck except that someone or something was just toying with him, how else would he end up on a roof with his idol after almost being suffocated by a villain made of slime?
Don’t look over the edge of the roof, focus on your breathing.
After giving his speech on why he seemed to shrink in size All Might turns away about to leave. But he can’t leave yet, Izuku hasn’t even asked him the question he’s been dying to know the answer to. “Wait!” Izuku yells, reaching out like that will stop the hero. Shockingly it does work as he turns around to face Izuku looking confused.
Izuku just rambles on not giving the hero any time to say anything. “Do you think someone without a quirk can become a hero?” There's a pleading tone in his voice as he asks the question .
The blond's face contorts with pity, his eyebrows scrunching. Izuku didn't need pity, he just wants an answer. Izukus’s eyes wander to the ground, a rock forming in his stomach because of how long it’s taking the hero to respond. “Kid I’m sorry but it's unrealistic to believe that someone without a quirk can become a hero. If you really want to help, maybe consider becoming a firefighter or a doctor.”
No no nono no no.
Izuku doesn't dare look up as he feels his breath hitch. Hot tears are running down his face as his breath starts to pick up. He can't focus on anything except All Might's words repeating over and over in his mind. Izuku feels like he’s about to pass out- wait.. He hears a familiar sound that haunts him at school and his dream, explosions. Kacchan, Kacchan!
———-
If Izuku had a penny for everytime All Might told him something that changed his entire world, he would have two pennies which isn't a lot but it’s weird it happened twice in one day no less. Honestly how is it even possible that All Might can transfer his quirk, and out of all the people he could have picked to become his successor he picked Izuku.
His feet stumble as he nearly trips over a creak in the sidewalk. Izuku shook his head trying to clear his thoughts, not wanting to fall flat on his face because of a pebble. Continuing walking to his house for the next few minutes. When he got to the front door he unlocked it and stepped inside calling out. “Mom! Im home”
He got no response so he continued to take off his shoes and then walk into the kitchen. On the counter was a note written in Inko’s handwriting ‘Hey Izuku I picked up an extra shift tonight so I won't be home until late, dinner is in the fridge for when you get hungry. Don't wait up. -mom <3’
He went to his room after reading the note. He's grown used to his mom not being home until late into the night but she always left him food in the fridge. Flopping onto his desk chair, putting his backpack down next to him and pulling out his notebook. Izuku just wants to write and ignore everything that happened today, he can process everything tomorrow.
Before he could ever put his pencil on the paper he realizes that he probably shouldn't write All Might’s secret if he plans to publish this book. He still needs an ending for his book so he thinks back to the rooftop, feeling the cool breeze on his skin even through the leftover slime on his skin. How tall the roof was, It was at least 8 stories…you would die on impact.
He bits the inside of his cheek hard enough to make it bleed, the pain brings him back to the present. He never wants to think back to that moment ever again but it did give him an idea on how to end his book. It might be too much for the future readers but if they weren't prepared for the main character to jump off the roof after having their dreams crushed then they shouldn't have read the book.
With the ending now decided Izuku starts writing, he makes sure that whoever decides to read his book will remember the ending.
———-
The entrance exam for UA is only a week away, Izuku has been training with All Might for the past few months preparing his body to get OFA. Sadly because of all the training he has had barely any time to work on his book and even when he did have time all his muscles were too sore to move.
During his rest days Izuku would spend hours editing his book hoping to publish it after the entrance exam. There was one thing he still had yet to do, Figure out a title for his book. He has half a mind to use a random generator online to make a title but sadly he actually has standards for his own book. So instead of a random title he’s decided to just wait until everything else is done until picking it.
—-----
So a lot has happened since Izuku got his acceptance letter from UA. One example is that he’s currently has his own dorm room because UA wants to protect their students. Izuku has encountered more villains then he counts on both his hands, there hasn't been a moment to relax with all the training and villain attacks until now.
It’s been a week since Kamino and everything is finally getting back to normal, well as normal as it can get with having a quirk and friends now. On the plus side Izuku is done editing his book all he has left to do is figure out a title and publish it.
Hand running through his hair Izuku sits down on his dorm room floor looking at his now filled notebook trying to come up with a title for the book. He’s done every mother to come up with a title except one, he was avoiding this but it's his last resort. The same method he did to come up with the ending, Izuku has to think back to the rooftop and pick one of the things he felt then turn it into a title.
He closes his eyes thinking of the wind picking up and the feeling of not being able to control his breath- his eyes snap open. Pen in hand he writes down the title for his book along with the name he’ll put it under. ‘The hitch in your breath by: Tokumei Raita’
He ends up spending hours typing up all the stuff he’s written before sending it to a publisher, it doesn't matter if no one actually reads the book as long as it's out there.
