Loving Memories Never Die

Chapter 13

Notes:

Hi!! Finally, I'm back after a much longer break than I expected, but I'm super excited to finally be able to upload the epilogue! I'm both relieved and sad that the story has come to its end... I guess I'll have to find some other wip to write on now.

I'll have more words to say at the end, so for now, happy reading <333

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Soobin stood looking into the room that he had known for a while used to belong to him and Yeonjun. In his arms, he held a pile of all the clothes and a few of the books that he had gathered over time when he’d been sleeping in the other room. The room that Soobin now remembered actually used to be Taehyun’s room, before his amnesia hit.

Even now, after having slept in this room with Yeonjun for the last week or so, Soobin remembered how it felt to not know that this used to be his room. How he had walked past it each night without a second thought, having no clue that his Yeonjun was left all alone in there without his comfort.

“You wanna know something?” Soobin asked, stepping over to the bed and putting his things down there. He looked over at Yeonjun, who stood by the door watching him expectantly. “A while back, I woke up in the middle of the night from a nightmare and went to the bathroom. When I went back, I went in here by accident. Like my body moved on muscle memory. Back then, I couldn’t figure out how that happened, because my room was the furthest away from yours, you know?”

Soobin started packing his clothes into the empty space in the wardrobe by the side of the bed, and Yeonjun came over to help him.

“You must have been tired,” Yeonjun suggested, indulging in Soobin’s story.

After packing in the last pair of pants, Soobin closed the wardrobe and turned so they were face to face. “No, that’s not it,” he said, and then a smile came upon his face. Firmly, he placed his hands on Yeonjun’s waist and pulled him closer. “I think even with amnesia I still knew, deep down, that this is where I belong. With you.”

Yeonjun’s face was in awe for a whole two seconds before he snorted. “You’re so cheesy.”

“Pfft, don’t act like you didn’t miss that,” Soobin answered, leaning forward to rub his nose on Yeonjun’s cheek to get him to laugh. He succeeded, but afterwards Yeonjun leaned slightly back to look at him.

“I did miss it,” Yeonjun said, voice more serious now. “I missed all of you. Again, I’m so so—”

Soobin silenced him with a finger on his lips. “Hyung, I know you. I know how you work, and I understand. I understand how hard it must have been for you. Even without my memories, when I couldn’t figure out why you were avoiding me so much, I never hated you.”

“But Soobin, I—” Soobin kissed Yeonjun’s mouth to get him to stop, which made Yeonjun shake his head at him. “You’re not gonna let me apologize anymore, are you?”

“Nope. Apology already accepted and forgiven. Nothing left to apologize for.”

Yeonjun let out a disbelieving laugh, shaking his head fondly. “Well, I’m not gonna stop feeling bad about it.”

Soobin loved listening to Yeonjun’s laugh, even one as short as this one. He wanted – more like needed – to hear more of it, so he once again grabbed Yeonjun and pulled him closer. His fingers tickled around Yeonjun’s waist, daring to sneak underneath his loose shirt, while he at the same time pressed loud, wet kisses in the crook of Yeonjun’s neck.

“Soobin~” Yeonjun giggled, squirming slightly in Soobin’s grip but not removing himself.

“What, you didn’t miss me tickling you?” Soobin teased, leaning his head back so he could stare down at Yeonjun’s lovely blushing face. There was such a contented look on his face, together with what Soobin could sense was disbelief, and Soobin was pretty sure he knew what Yeonjun was thinking in that moment.

He pecked Yeonjun’s lips gently. “This isn’t a dream,” he said, ending his tickling and instead dragged his hands upwards over Yeonjun’s back, until he was holding him in an embrace.

“You sure?” Yeonjun asked, eyes filled with wonder and scepticism. “Cuz’ is sure feels like it. It’s been so long since you held me like this…” Gently, his head fell against Soobin’s shoulder and he sucked in a long breath.

“I know it’s been a rough few months, to say the least, but I’m still here, okay? I never left.” Soobin’s right hand came up and caressed gently at the back of Yeonjun’s neck, carefully nudging him to lift his head and look at Soobin. “You know how much I love you?” he asked when he could see Yeonjun’s eyes again. Eyes that were searching for an answer in Soobin’s own. “I love you enough to fall in love with you twice. I love you so much that even though I forgot all about you, the moment I saw you I knew there was something special about you. And then I went and fell all over again, even though you weren’t speaking to me. Doesn’t that say something?”

At that point, Yeonjun’s eyes welled over with tears. Soobin didn’t worry, because even someone without his powers would’ve been able to see it was happy tears.

“I love you, Soobin-ah,” Yeonjun said, speaking slowly to not let his emotions take over and break up his speech. “Thank you.”

They looked into each other eyes, and as naturally as breathing, both leaned into the other to allow their lips to meet once more. It became a long but oh so sweet kiss, where their lips stayed connected without the need to move. It was exactly what they both needed, to get a pause from reality and just get lost in the moment.

When their lips finally disconnected, Soobin smiled and dragged his thumb over Yeonjun’s slightly wettened cheek. “What were you saying thank you for?”

“For…” Yeonjun sighed contentedly. “For everything. For being here. For coming back to me. For loving me even though I don’t always deserve it.”

“Silly Hyung,” Soobin said, shaking his head. “You deserve all the love that I have to give you and more.” His thumb made another sweep over Yeonjun’s skin, this time only because he wanted to touch his love. “No more crying now.”

“I just got my boyfriend back, I’ll cry as much as I want to,” Yeonjun retorted teasingly.

“Mhm,” Soobin mused, “so, what can I do to stop your crying, then?”

Suddenly, Yeonjun’s innocent face turned into something darker, something seductive. “Oh, I could think of a few things that would help.” His hands sneaked up underneath Soobin’s shirt after having released it from its confinement tucked into his pants. Slowly, he dragged his fingers upwards, nails lightly scratching at Soobin’s skin. They moved until Yeonjun could confidently rest his hands on top of Soobin’s chest. Leaning in with a crooked smirk on his face, Yeonjun whispered, “I could also think of a few things to make it worse.”

-

A few minutes later found Yeonjun and Soobin on the bed, with Yeonjun pressing Soobin down into the mattress. Their shirts were discarded, yet there was no risk of them growing cold.

Yeonjun was on his way to ravening Soobin’s chest, his mouth dangerously close to a nipple, when the door to their dorm banged open.

“Hyungs!” They both recognized Beomgyu’s voice, and it had the effect of Yeonjun jumping off Soobin in an instant.

It was too late to spare Beomgyu, unfortunately. “Oh my god, my eyes!” Beomgyu wailed as he realized what was happening inside the room he’d just entered. “Give me some warning, will you!”

“Sorry?” Soobin asked from where he was lying, still in the exact same position as when Yeonjun’s mouth had been on him.

“Ugh,” Beomgyu groaned, making a somewhat disgusted face. “I’m happy for you, and all that, but your timing is awful, as usual.”

“Why don’t you just tell us why you came here before I throw you back out?” Yeonjun threatened. As usual, Yeonjun’s anger couldn’t frighten Beomgyu, who just rolled his eyes.

“I came here,” Beomgyu said slowly, as if he was speaking to children who had a hard time listening, “to tell you that Kai succeeded in separating me and Taehyun-ah’s power cores. I thought you’d be interested, but it seems you’ve got more important stuff going on. Don’t let me be the party-pooper.”

With that, Beomgyu turned on his heel and bolted out of the room. The door shut loudly behind him.

Soobin burst out laughing. Meanwhile, Yeonjun stared at the door, barely believing that had just happened.

“So…” Soobin drawled. “Should we go see what he’s talking about?”

Yeonjun let out a frustrated sigh. “Well, he killed the mood, so I guess we should go.”

With a snort, Soobin lifted himself and sneaked a peck on Yeonjun’s lips. “I’m actually curious to see if Kai really did succeed. Rain check?”

“You bet.”

They made it off the bed before Yeonjun stopped Soobin with a hand on his bicep.

“We should tell them you got your full memory back, too.”

Ironically enough, Soobin had already forgotten about that little fact. He let out a chuckle and grabbed Yeonjun, linking their arms together. “If I do that, will you continue what you were doing with your mouth?”

“I’ll do whatever you want me to, baby.”

Notes:

So that was that. Now the story is over. Feels incredibly weird to say that. What a wild ride it became, hahah, I truly didn't expect the story to turn out the way it did. But I'm quite happy with the result, actually.

What I'm more than happy about, though, is all of you. Whether you're a silent reader, if you've given kudos or if you're one of the amazing commenters, I'm so thankful that you've been reading and (hopefully) enjoying the story. I must say, some of your comments pushed me to add stuff to the story that I might've been too lazy to go into otherwhise. Like, can you believe I didn't plan to write how Soobin's mission happened at all? It was actually because I had no plan for it, so I thought I could just not mention it again and hope no one would notice heh. Then I read some comments and suddenly inspiration and ideas were flowing, and voila! I'm very happy that I managed to put that in, the story would've felt quite empty if I hadn't been able to wrap up that plot point. So yeah, an extra big thanks for so many great comments, they were truly wonderful, every single one of them.

Now, who knows, maybe we'll see each other again in the future, if I manage to finish the stuff that are in my drafts right now. Life has its ups and downs, but I think I'll always enjoy writing, and after the amazing response I've gotten I'm looking forward to being able to share more with you in the future. Let's see what the future brings!
Have a lovely rest of your day/night/morning or whichever time of the day it is for you <3333
