Chapter Text
“Dean, you need to calm down. Cas used a lot of energy fighting off The Empty and getting you guys back, it makes sense that he would do this.”
“Jack, nothing you say is going to help him. We just have to leave him be.”
The voices of Jack and Sam weren’t heard by Dean, at least, they weren’t acknowledged by the older man. His hands shook and his eyes were glazed over. He hadn’t left Cas’s side since they got back. When he had passed out moments after returning from The Empty, Dean carried him into his room, laying him down in his own bed and pulled up a chair to watch over him.
It had been three days.
Dean had not slept. He sat at Cas’s side watching, at every small twitch of a finger or eyelid his heart leapt, but Cas did not wake up.
Sam had come by in an attempt to let his brother rest for a bit but he got no reply, later a tray with food and water was sat at Dean’s side. The food was not touched but Sam could tell that his older brother had taken sips from the glass of water.
On that third day, the angel of the Lord rose from his sleep, gently blinking his eyes and shifting his hands.
Beside him Dean had fallen asleep, still in the same spot he had been in, head tilted down and fingers interlocked. It almost appeared as though he was praying. And maybe he had been.
Cas began to sit up, bed creaking as he did, waking the sleeping man up.
Dean shot up like a rocket, eyes darting towards the door and then back at Cas.
“Cas”
He froze.
“Oh Dean”
“Are you ok? Do you need anything? What happened? Are you alright?”
Dean spouted off dozens of questions, grabbing extra pillows to put behind the angel’s head and trying to get him to drink from the cup of water.
Cas pushed the glass away, “Dean, honey, I am alright. You can rest.”
Dean’s whole body relaxed at his words and started to sit back down in his chair. Cas scooted his body to the other side of the bed and patted at the empty space.
“Come here, Dean.”
Dean sat on the bed next to Cas, unsure of what to do, Castiel laughed at the man’s confused state.
“Take off your shoes dear, lay with me. And take off your jeans too, that's certainly not the way to relax.”
He did as he was told, but laid straight as a board next to Cas in his bed. The angel shook his head and wrapped an arm around him, maneuvering him to lay on his chest.
“You can rest, my sweet.”
