A tired sigh escaped her lips.
“Exhausted?”
“No,” she called loud enough for him to hear her from the bedroom. She cocked her head to get a peek at Kakashi’s back side, brushing his teeth for the second time. “The bed just feels so nice.”
She heard him spit a mouthful of toothpaste before responding, “I’ll be there in a minute.”
Sakura hummed in reply, eyes closed allowing her muscles to release all tension and fully submerge into the plush comforter. It was only a few minutes later when she felt the bed dip with Kakashi’s weight and the taste of mint in her mouth.
“You taste so good,” her fingers brushed the nape of his neck as his minty tongue traced the inside of her mouth.
“Told you it’d be worth it.” His forearms bracketed around her head as he nuzzled his nose into her neck, taking a whiff of her soap scented skin. “Smell so good,” he murmured and it made her shiver.
“So I was thinking,” she started as Kakashi continued to kiss and drag his nose along the crook of her neck, idly listening to his girlfriend.
“Mhmmm?” he offered teasingly.
“You’ve been sleeping over a lot.”
His head instantly whipped up to attention, “Oh, I just—- I mean, I thought—-”
Sakura shook her head, dissipating any of his preconceived notions, “No Kakashi, that’s not what I meant.” She took a deep breath, finding her resolve before continuing. “I want you to move in with me. If you’re ready, of course.”
He watched her for so long she wondered if she’d ever spoken the words out loud. But she’d known he’d heard her when he finally responded, “Move in? Like, move in-move in?”
“What other kind of move-in is there?”
She watched as his cheeks tinted the prettiest shade of pink, his signature mask not there to protect him.
Her own insecurities began to peek through when silence stretched a bit longer, maybe she spoke too soon. She thought a year of dating had been enough time before popping the question. He’d been sleeping over so much she’d gotten used to seeing his things scattered around the apartment.
“We can forget this conversation too? I’m sorry, forget I brought it up.” She attempted to lower his head to her lips but he moved off her completely. She watched as he stood a foot away from the bed, “Where are you going?”
“I’ll be right back!” He was gone in a puff of smoke. It did nothing good for her nerves, she was suddenly filled with a worry so great she felt sick to her stomach. Had she scared him away? Fuck, she had. She should have known to move slower, more cautious with Kakashi’s feelings and his history of always being alone.
She watched as the clock on her nightstand ticked by marking the sixth minute since he’d been gone when suddenly Kakashi stood before her once again. This time, holding two medium sized bags in both hands. Her eyebrows quirked in confusion.
“This is basically it,” he said proudly, “I had some clones help me. We can get the rest of my Icha-Icha collection tomorrow.”
“Kakashi Hatake, you come here right now!”
He moved towards the bed, his smile from before hinting at nervous. Sakura yanked him onto the bed, moving to hover above him in seconds. “You idiot! You scared the crap out of me! I thought I scared you away!”
He smirked below her, eyes filled with equal parts mischief and tenderness. “How could I ever leave my pink haired kunoichi?” His fingers brushed beneath her jade eyes, “ I just didn’t want to wait another day. You know I don’t own much.”
Sakura couldn’t help the smile that teased her mouth, “Really?”
“Of course. But this is your last chance, you really want me to move-in? Because once I bring my entire Icha-Icha collection, I don’t plan on ever leaving.” His voice teased as he playfully pulled on a strand of pink hair.
She answered him with a kiss on the precipice of ferociousness. “That sounds like heaven to me.”
