Work Text:
“When hearts broke, some things can never go back the same.”
Once, there was a lovely pair of twins. They have the same pretty purple eyes and bright purple vibrate hair. They were the sole attention of the town.
There weren't many children in the town since a long time ago, so when the twins were born, it was almost like a god send, a miracle. They were both adored and loved dearly.
However, no matter how much love was equally given to them, the adults forgot something. No matter how much the twins look like each other, they are, without a doubt, still different persons. They also posses this something.
Something that only siblings would have.
Something called "Sibling rivalry", they underestimated their jealousy as children. Especially between twins.
They have the same appearance, the almost same blood and body. They are similar, but one more thing.
Their genders.
As the younger twin and also the female one, she was adored much more than the older twin. At first it was nothing, he just had tad bit lesser of attention...
As time goes, the gap widen between the twins.
The younger one was simply more vibrate and brilliant than the gloomy older twin.
It all first begun with the comparison that comes into the picture.
During Elementary, the sister was more smarter and social than the brother. The brother was just a little slow, but he's not dumb. Even so, they started to judge since the twins are young.
The brother silently walked in the corridors, heading towards the teacher's office, going to send in his homework. There was whispering, so the brother decided to wait for the teacher to end their conversations first, since it was rude to interrupt.
"Hey, about those twins again..." Teacher A spoke with a troubled look.
"B-sensei, I think it's better to separate the twins. Their difference are seen very clearly." Teacher C said as three teachers looked through the homework and tests.
"I mean, they look the same ...but why are their results not?" Teacher B sighs. Teacher A and Teacher C looked at each other for a while.
"I mean, it's clear already," Teacher A started, obviously very annoyed with this student for pulling down the class’ grades.
"The older twin is dull, he's no good." Teacher C, the older twin's classroom teacher said with a smirk. Her usual smiling face turned to an ugly smirk.
Knock. Tap.
"Huh? When was this...?" Teacher B went out to answer the knock but to only found a pile of homeworks instead of someone.
Hush whispers flew into the ears of the older twins, the younger twin was surrounded by too much life and love to notice the bad. The teachers are alike with the other parents. They look at one side and dismiss the other.
"After all, adults likes to judge."
During Middle School, the older twin finally made friends. Friends that can take him into a world of colors and wonders, as they could also drown him into the sea of muddy despair.
Walking down the hallways, the older twin carried a bunch of bread. It was clearly not for himself but he used his own money to buy all of them for his friends.
He heard whispers, so he stopped himself at the door of his classroom. As polite he was, he didn't want to go in, silently waiting for them to finish while listening to his friends and classmates instead.
"Oh, how I wish to have a twin sister like him." Male friend A spoke with a sigh.
"I became friends with him because he had a twin...but to see him be such a wimp..." Female friend B said with a huff.
"Isn't it better to be friends with the other twin?" Female friend C came up with a solution.
"Eh..?" Male friend A looked at Female friend C who began to move. Clearly she wants to leave now.
"What about our bread? He's probably buying them now." Male friend A asked.
"He's not even here yet, maybe he didn't even bought it yet!" There was doubts in Female friend B's voice. Even though they have never paid him and kept asking for bread of their own. They ordered him to do so so many times, only giving the twin brother a careless, insincere thanks.
"Because both are twins anyways. Since she is better, let's just go to her!" Female friend C said as she pulled opened the door, to find a pile of bread all over the place.
Friends are just tools to brag and fame.
During High School, it became worst. After fame, there was one thing everyone took part to relief stress.
If you asked what towards the high school kids, they will laugh at you while throwing their cigarettes onto the floor. With dyed hair and smirks on their faces, they will boost about it.
That is, bullying.
The older brother hugs his books with him dearly, even if he treats them so delicately, his textbooks always end up in a bad situation. Either it was ripped apart, soaked in mud or even burned half.
His desks were not sparred, not even his inside shoes to classroom. It was clear, that he was bullied and isolated.
He always sat, at the middle of the classroom. He could not even ignore the stares and not-silent whispers. Everyday, he sat at his seat with his heart tighten in pain, fear and anxiety.
"He doesn't deserve such an excellent twin."
"Yeah, he should give it to me instead."
"He's such a wimp!"
"He's dumb too! Look at his grades!"
More whispers.
The students, his classmates, her friends, everyone just speak whatever they want. No matter right or wrong. Harsh tone, judging eyes, laughing smirks, and bad intentions, within the dark, their laughter haunts the twin brother.
More judgements.
Their parents, the outsiders, the teachers, no one ever asked anything. They assume, assume and judge for themselves. Results was something that didn't lie, nobody asked him.
No encouragements.
His parents never say anything to him, they don't even blame him nor do they care about him. He watches how his twin get showered in love instead. It was worse than being scolded, they pretended he didn’t exist even when he was the one who cooked dinner for the whole family. Even without his parents, he thought he still had a family.
Only disappointments.
To his disappointment, his twin sister never cared about him as well. Oh, he wasn't shock, because as twins, he could sense about a little what the other was feeling. He wished he was wrong.
"Thus, his heart began to break."
With trembling emotions, he faced his twin one day.
"Hey, sis. Why are you doing this to me?" He found out that people don't start rumors and judge other with just looking. His twin, with the same face as him continued to smile innocently.
There was someone who spread the bad rumors.
Someone close to him, if they were to sprout the bad things and his weakness.
That's right.
His own twin sister.
"When hearts turn black, madness dwells in the good. Good people break, not for their sanity, but for their resentments."
On top of the rooftop, the cold december winter breeze is cold. Two person, with purple hair and purple eyes stood.
"What do you mean, older brother? I thought you didn't care?" Her smile no longer felt innocent to him anymore.
"I..." He stood shock a little, after 17 years of being together, he only noticed how twisted and evil minded his twin really is, under those smiling facade of hers.
She continues to smile, chuckling as if mocking his naivety.
"I don't care?! But you were the one to tell me not to mind, yet you-!?" He shouts, eyes widen in both anger and resentment.
"Oh, me? I want everything! I don't want to share anymore!" She spoke with a wide eyes, her smile crumbles to show frowns and clear disgust on her eyes.
"So you took away my friends, my classmates, my teachers and even our parents!?" He asked gripping his knuckles, his head looking down. His whole body shaking in anger.
"Heh. That's right, I am more social so everyone goes to me! I have better grades, of course teacher adores me! I am better in everything, of course our parents only pay attention to me, and ONLY ME!!" She said laughing madly when she though he was trembling in fear or sadness.
"Even when it was you who faked it, to like everyone when you think of them as annoying flies?" He started talking, he remembers feeling slight annoyance and anger when he saw his twin with a group of people. He also noticed, this annoyance wasn't his. It was his twin's emotions.
"Eh?" She gasped, clearly in shock as she is unable to understand why he started to talk again.
"Even when you cheated on every test? Becoming teacher's pet, like in literal sense to get test papers ahead of us?" He continues, of course he'd notice the dark spots on his twin and the different shampoos.
"Why...how did-!?" Now, she began to feel like panicking. Her eyes shrunk, her hands goes up to pull her hair in stress.
"Heh. You even tried as much to use everything you have to make me isolated. It was to make sure, no one found out, all you said were lies..." He laughed, he remembers late night doors opening and closing. He remembers of every evening where his twin held arms of different men.
"You....You knew this whole time?" Now, she's the desperate one here.
He laughed, for once. His hands reached towards his back, taking out a cloth from his back pocket.
"Of course. I am your twin after all." He laughed, madness written in his eyes.
"Then....what- what do you want! You can't prove it- you don't have proof, no one wants to believe yo-" She started shouting at him, as if to comfort herself.
"This." He took our a recorder out from the cloth, and pressed the play button. Her voice resonates in the empty rooftop.
She stop her tracks, dropping onto the floor like a puppet with no strings attached. She looked up to him, her smile so crooked and fake as she begged.
"Don't expose me! I'd give you anything! Please don't!" She begged and begged. Tears flowing down to mess up her makeup.
"Heh...anything?" He replied, she felt a spark of hope as she began to finally look at his older twin in eyes, properly for once.
"Yes! Anything!" It was a shock, for him to see her purple eyes bright up with a wide grin on her face. A small light reflected to her eyes.
The more she smiled, the more he felt something is wrong. The way she smile sends a shiver down his spine.
"...B-brother?" She shakes heavily, her tears didn't stop but she stopped begging.
"My dear sister, what I want is for you to-" Before he could finish, he felt a jab at his stomach. His hand touches the spot, and all he felt was the burning pain of betrayal.
His twin looked up to him with a wide grin, a knife stained in blood in ber arms, "Like heck I will give you anything! If you want to steal anything from me, I RATHER TAKE ALL YOU HAVE LEFT! YOUR LIFE!"
She laughed loudly as she approached him, she corned him to the edge of the roof. With madness covering in her eyes, she took no notice their situation was dangerously.
There was a long saying, some clearly doesn’t believe in them, but it’s true...
She charges forward to him, the knife stabbed into his stomach once more but to fell off the rooftop. Both of them together.
If one of twin dies, bad things happen to the other...
Results of falling off the building, the older twin was surprisingly still breathing while the younger stabbed herself at the neck with the knife.
"All I ever wanted was for you to be my sister again..." He whispered.
That's where things began to turned.
Why?
Bad things happen.
He found out of his ability to regenerate. No matter how he injured himself, death will stay away from him. As if telling him, he will never reunite with his closed one. As if telling him, "You are alone forever!"
Smack!
Returning back to reality, Skull looked up while rubbing the sore spot on his head. 6 babies and one young girl stood in front of him.
"Lackey, what are you in daze of! I told you to get my espresso!" Reborn scolded.
"Me and Lal wants sport drinks!" Colonnello said with his hands on his hips.
"I will have a strawberry milkshake..." Mammon said and looks away.
"Then, I will have an Oolong Tea, Skull." Fon said with a smile.
"Ah, Skull-san, please get me a chocolate milkshake!" Yuni requested with a smile.
"Ok! I am fine with getting drinks for Yuni and Fon, but can't you guys ask me in a better way!!" Skull complains to get kicked at the head by Reborn and Colonnello.
"What's so bad about it? We trust you to buy our drinks, be happy!" Colonnello complains.
"You're stuck with us till we all die together anyways! Now go get my drinks!" Lal said with a huff when she saw doubt in Skull.
"Indeed. You aren't alone now, so go be of use to us." Verde waves his hand as Skull nods.
"Ah, what do you, Verde?" Skull asked back.
"Anything you having," Verde waves off as he stared at his papers as if working at a puzzle.
Yuni giggles a little while Skull nods and happily walks away.
"You guys are always like this. Although, you all act mean to Skull-san but you guys try not to involve him in these shaddy meetings." Yuni giggles and says when everyone's aura began to change dark.
"He is one of us, anyways. Although he is weak, no one but us can make fun of him," Reborn says darkly, a dark shadow overcast him. He looks as if a death God with such a dark aura.
"Hah, we all are special anyways. With special identities." Yuni nodded, a bright light shined in her hands. The flower she stepped on just now revived itself.
"After all, we can't die anyways. Let's kill those who plan to kill off Skull. I got them in my basement." Verde said as he readjust his glasses.
"Indeed." Mammon and Fon nodded their heads.
"Hey, I’m backkk!" Skull crashes in late as everyone began to look up.
"You're late, lackey!" Reborn mocks while Colonnello and Lal began to talk to him. Mammon took the strawberry milkshake silently while Fon and Yuni thanked him.
"Thanks," Skull said as he passed a cup of coffee to Verde.
"?" Verde looked at him with an eyebrow raised, because Verde ain't going to say thank you.
"Nothing." Skull laughs, because he's not alone now. The shadow of his twin is no longer needed, because, now he is the needed one.
