Chapter Text

“So, Todoroki..” Ashido started, sitting atop a small ledge in the bomb room. “What exactly is our plan? Midoriya and Mineta should be entering the building at any moment here, and I’m still not sure what we’re up to.” Todoroki stood in the middle of the room, only a few feet in front of the bomb. He didn’t turn to her, the air around them dropping in temperature. “..hello?”

“We don’t need a plan.” His voice was absolute, as though there was no other way forward. “They won’t be able to surpass the frost.” Todoroki rose his foot, ice crawling up the white side of his costume. He slammed his foot into the ground, the ice that once rose shooting out around him and covering the building. Ashido lept onto a pile of debris, narrowly dodging the crawling frost. The room’s walls closed in on them, with thick ice shutting them away from the world.

“What the..?” Ashido whispered, Todoroki slowly turning to her. The red glowing eye surrounded by the ice sent shivers down her spine. Though that also could be the incredibly cold temperature.

“Even with Midoriya’s strength, the ice will hold. He has a tell.” Todoroki muttered. “I believe his power hurts him, even for only a moment. He won’t be able to out punch my ice. We’ll time them out.” Todoroki turned back around, ice slowly creeping from his foot. He planned to freeze faster than Izuku punched. Mina curled up on herself, cold sinking through her veins. A moment passed, dust falling from the ceiling. Todoroki only had a moment to look up before the ceiling exploded.

“SMASH!” Izuku, with Mineta clinging onto his back, fell through the roof amidst the rubble. He hit the floor with a loud thud, ice cracking around him. Mineta bounced off of Izuku’s back, screaming like a freak given purpose. He tore handfuls of his purple balls off his skull at Ashido, keeping her in place as he soared towards the bomb.. And violently hit the floor, followed up by a sigh. “..well, I guess that’s still most of his part? I mean..” Izuku pointed at Todoroki, his gloved fingered glowing slightly. “Villain! As a hero, I must take you down!” Todoroki blankly stared for a moment, before sending a small glacier at Izuku. Izuku yelped as his power discharged, his health dropping and the ice shattering.

“Midoriya. While it does seem you can power through the ice, I believe I know something others don’t. Your power harms you. Can you keep up the power for good, or will you break yourself over a training exercise?” Todoroki surrounded himself in ice, sending waves of it at Izuku. Izuku spun on his heel, launching himself at the decoy bomb. Izuku reached a hand out, mere feet away from the bomb, only for Ashido to come flying at him. She knocked into him, causing him to fly off course. He bounced off the wall, skidding to a stop next to a recovering Mineta.

“I can’t keep fighting through the ice, and with Ashido back in the game, getting the bomb will be trouble.” Izuku frowned as Mineta hopped to his feet.

“Midoriya, throw me!” Mineta yelled, catching Izuku off guard. If he had time to think, he would’ve asked questions, however the quickly approaching ice caused him to panic. Izuku picked up Mineta by the back of his costume before throwing him like a super powered baseball. Mineta began quickly bouncing off Todoroki’s ice, flinging himself around the room, only leaving balls in his place as he swung around. Ashido turned her direction towards the bouncing purple ball of a boy, flinging acid at his trail. Todoroki scowled as his ice was cut away by the acid. Izuku leaped into the air, following Mineta’s example. He channeled power into just one toe, limiting the damage to his health and the surrounding building. Ice shards cracked and flew from the walls, causing the room to look like a winter wonderland. Ashido had little time to react as the green machine flung at her, catching her by the arm and slamming her into the ground. A second later and Mineta bounced off Todoroki himself, landing safely on the decoy bomb. The ice stopped, leaving Izuku and Todoroki to stare at each other. It was silent for only a moment then-

“The hero team wins!” All Might’s voice crackled over the speaker system. Izuku slumped against the bomb, his eye drifting to his health. Even with just using his power in his toe to bounce around, he found himself down to 37 HP.

Quest: A hero’s trials. Completed!

Task: Win the battle training against team F ( Shoto Todoroki, Mina Ashido )

Rewards: Beginning of Minoru Mineta social link.

“Another social link? I still haven’t checked the first skill from Mr. Aizawa’s social link.. Do I get skills every level? How helpful would a skill from Mineta be? He did give us the chance to win.. And I don’t think I would’ve won without him.. I think.” Izuku thought to himself.

“Midoriya! We won, we won!” Mineta began bouncing up and down excitedly. “We won the first exercise together! This is so cool!” He was clearly incredibly happy to win. “Man, you were so strong! I bet all the ladies love you, you’re so powerful!” Mineta flexed to himself. “I’m gonna head back, we did awesome!” Mineta happily skipped off, leaving Midoriya alone with Ashido and Todoroki. Todoroki looked down at his hands before quietly wandering off, clearly not wanting to chat with someone who made him face defeat.

“..I won..” Izuku took a moment to breathe. “Man, my body aches a little.. I guess using One for All so much can overpower Gamer’s Body..” He sighed. He took a step forward, before looking down. Ashido was out cold on the floor, laying in a small crack in the floor. “..please be okay.” Midoriya quickly picked up Ashido, carrying her in his arms. “..and don’t be dead.”

After quickly delivering Ashido to the nurse’s office, being assured he didn’t do much more than knocking her out, Izuku rushed back to the observation. He stood by Mineta, waiting for All Might to speak up.

“Welcome back, young Midoriya. We are going to go over the results of the first battle trial. First, can anyone tell me who the MVP of this battle is? Who has a guess?” All Might asked, with only one hand raising into the air.

“Sir, I can tell you why.” Yaoyorozu began. “Mineta not only subdued Ashido at the beginning of the fight, but also created a plan for him and his teammate to get to victory. He was also the one to actually tag the bomb, while both Midoriya and Todoroki caused property damage by breaking in the ceiling and breaking pieces of the wall by icing over it. Ashido played a minimal role, leading to her only notable action being knocked out. This is in part due to Todoroki not cooperating with his teammate.” The room grew quiet, with All Might pausing for a good few moments.

“Well, you overlooked a few things. Young Mineta could’ve halted Young Ashido from the start, or have reached the bomb right away. Otherwise you nailed it.” All Might gave her a thumbs up. Momo began to say more, but Izuku tuned her out.

“It is understandable that Mineta was the MVP, maybe his social link skill can’t be the worst.” As Izuku thought to himself, the social link tab opened up to Mineta’s page.

Minoru Mineta, attention starved pervert. Rank 1. Unlocked skill: Bounce back, allows the user to deflect one attack. Can only be used twice per battle.

“It seems pretty useful, even if it is limited to only two uses. What about Mr. Aizawa’s?”

Shouta Aizawa, ever tired and ever working teacher. Rank 1. Unlocked skill: Stun Fist, after an opponent is hit, they cannot use their quirk for five seconds. Doesn’t work on Mutant-Type quirks. Can only be used once per battle.

Izuku smiled to himself, knowing his bonds would grant him an extra step to being a hero.

“Let’s keep this going, next up is team C and team J! Team C will be our heroes and team J shall play our villains. Both teams can leave the observation room, but only team J may enter the building until the timer is up.” All Might announced, with four people stepping near the door to leave. Team C was composed of Bakugo and Uraraka and Team J of Yaoyorozu and Kirishima. Bakugo looked over his shoulder to glare at Izuku, only to step out of the door with Uraraka running after him.

“What’s up with Bakugo glaring at you? Did he not see how cool we were?” Mineta asked Izuku.

“Well.. we aren’t exactly on the best terms, which you can probably guess from.. Well. Him trying to attack me on the day of the apprehension test. I wonder what his plan for the test is.” Izuku trailed off, sighing. Bakugo was still a mystery to him.

Bakugo felt anger pumping through his veins. How dare fucking Deku get so strong! What the fuck even happened. Bakugo was so sure that Deku would get pummeled, but instead he won in record time. Small sparks leaped from his palms.

“Bakugo!” Uraraka had finally caught up to him, standing outside the building the villain team was setting up inside of. “What’s our plan? We can’t let Deku have the coolest win!” She was clearly pumped up, looking forward to the trial.

“..the hell’s your quirk again?” Bakugo asked, looking down at her.

“I make things I touch float! Though I can’t use it on myself very well.. And if something is too heavy, it makes me nauseous.” Bakugo stared back at the building, before looking down at the gauntlets. He scoffed, before clipping them off and setting them on the ground. They’d be too heavy.

“Could you make me float for a few seconds, Pink Cheeks?” Bakugo clenched his fingers, trying to calm the raging sparks. “I have a plan to tear apart those villains. Once I’m inside, enter from the bottom and we’ll snake ‘em out.” Uraraka gave him a grin, giving him a thumbs up. As All Might announced the start of the trial, Uraraka slapped Bakugo’s back then scrambled back. Bakugo let a grin tear at his face as his palms sparked, before explosions and the lack of gravity sent him flying. He curled into a ball crashing into a window, sliding to a stop in the room. It was empty, the doorway unopened. He felt gravity return to him as he sauntered up to the doorway, peeking outside. He saw the back of Kirishima heading downstairs, and he quietly opened the door. Bakugo stepped into the hallway, waiting for Kirishima to head halfway down the stairs.

“Man, this plan seems so complicated..” Kirishima muttered, taking a break on the steps. Bakugo crouched down, his palms igniting as he launched himself forward.

“DIE!” Bakugo screamed as he aimed his palm at Kirishima, letting loose a weak explosion, not much more than smoke to bounce over him. Kirishima hardened his back, leaving his front open. The two made eye contact as Bakugo brought his arms together and sent an explosion at Kirishima. Kirishima stumbled back, managing to harden himself just in time. He tapped a finger to his communicator.

“Bakugo’s up here with me! Keep an eye out for Uraraka!” He yelled, before running at Bakugo. Bakugo slid in, grabbing the lone strap across Kirishima’s chest. He lowered his palm, sending out a blast that caused the two to spin. After a moment, he let go of Kirishima, planting his boot into his opponent’s chest and sending him out of a window.

“Dealt with Shitty Hair.” Bakugo began, speaking into this communicator. “Heading down to enclose Ponytail.”

“I haven’t found her yet, I think she might be on one of the middle floors.” Uraraka answered back, her voice scratchy over the communicator. Bakugo grinned, running down the steps and blasting his way down the halls.

He would be the victor.

Notes:

Izuku's battle trial went quick, huh? I'm trying to make a good point of how strong Izuku is early on, so when he does have an actual challenge, he struggles.

Bakugo steps into the spotlight! He's so pissed he's actually working with someone early on! Wonder how that'll change him..
