Work Text:
Maybe having Hamlin as his lawyer wasn't the best idea.
He was better than the clown Nacho had suggested, but he was just too cute to be taken seriously .
The jail's interview room seemed a little less empty with Hamlin here. Lalo couldn't stop looking at him. He chattered animatedly about what he could do for Lalo, shuffling through paperwork as he did, his pale eyes downcast. His eyelashes were golden. It was the way he phrased it that caught Lalo's attention: Get him off . That was a double entendre, wasn't it? Was Hamlin the kind of guy who'd be into that? Lalo didn't know him well enough to say, but he was intrigued by the idea.
"Well, Mr. de Guzman," Hamlin was saying, sliding his paperwork back into his expensive-looking leather briefcase, "I can't see you making bail."
"No?"
Hamlin looked up through his lashes, his brows darting up towards his hairline. "You murdered someone," he said. He sounded like he was speaking to a child, and Lalo's teasing smile fell away. "I'll do what I can, but the odds aren't exactly in your favor."
Lalo hummed, leaning in to rest his elbows on the edge of the table between them. He said, imbuing his voice with so much authority that Hamlin stiffened in his seat, " Get me out ."
Hamlin mirrored the sound, then stood, crossing the room to knock on the steel door and calling, "I'm ready." He turned back to Lalo. "Don't threaten me," he said, his tone perfectly even. "We're on the same side, Mr. de Guzman. A little respect would be greatly appreciated. I'm here to get you off, remember?"
Was that an offer? Lalo's smile returned, slipping across his face like oil. He stood, too, following Hamlin to stand directly in front of him. They were exactly the same height, and Lalo met his eyes. He grabbed the back of Hamlin's neck, pulling him in for a kiss. It was likely the only one he'd be getting for some time.
Hamlin, to Lalo's surprise, went with it, his pale eyes slipping closed as he kissed back. When he pulled back, though, there was a little furrow between his brows. It was cute.
Lalo asked, "You're gonna get me off, huh?" The teasing tone was back.
Softly, so the approaching prison guard didn't hear, Hamlin said, "Yes."
