Chapter Text
It was only the first week of the exchange program and somehow you were already the talk of the Devildom. Not that Simeon was one for gossip, but when he heard your name muttered through the hall of RAD followed by fits of laughter, he couldn’t help but be curious as to what his sweet lamb had done. Even Luke’s curiosity spiked as he tried to listen in to the ongoing conversations of young demons.
“Did you hear?” Simeon overheard a young demon telling her friend as he took his seat, “That new human exchange student? They made a pack with fucking Mammon!”
“Doesn’t he already have like 200 pacts?” Her friend asked, uninterested.
“No, not the sorcerer. The other one!” She cackled, “Like the powerless one.”
Her friend stopped her scribbling and stared at the demon. It took her a second, but she broke down in a laughing fit with her friend. “Are you kidding? ‘The Great Mammon’ made a pact with a weak ass human? That’s fucking hilarious.”
Their laughter quickly subsided when Simeon slammed his books on the table, the slap echoing through the room, startling everyone. He clenched his jaw from making remarks because it couldn’t be true. You were too kind, too precious to make a pact with a demon. A demon like Mammon much less. He was the absolute scum of the Celestial Realm. His brothers weren’t better, but Mammon was a good-for-nothing who never cared to do anything right. The Devildom couldn’t have made him better.
“Simeon?” Luke put his hand on the older angel’s arm, bringing him back to reality, “Are you alright?”
“Yeah…I’ll be right back.” Simeon got up and left the room without saying another word. He pressed his way against the loitering demons in the hall, not caring if he bumped or shoved anyone out of the way. He had memories of your schedule the second you showed it to him so he knew exactly where you were going to be. Of course, he was right, you were sitting in your Potions class, notebook and pencil already out like the good lamb you were.
You weren’t sat alone, however, you were sat next to that white-haired bastard who probably spread those rumors himself. All the eyes in the room were on you two, but you remained oblivious and kept talking to Mammon like there was no tomorrow.
As if feeling his presence, you looked up and locked eyes with Simeon who was standing by the doorway. You waved at him and gave him that heart-throbbing smile. Mammon turned to look at who was waving, his face dropping when he saw who it was. Again, you remained oblivious to the world around you and got up to talk with Simeon.
“Hey,” You said as soon as he was within your vicinity, “What’s up? I typically don’t see you until the afternoon.”
“I…” Simeon faltered, “I just came to ask something.”
“Oh, is it for that quiz in Hexes? I have a study guide if you wanna borrow it.” You were starting to turn around, but Simeon grabbed your wrist before you could leave.
“No, I’m prepared for the exam, don’t worry.” He doesn't let your wrist go, but keeps a loose hold as to not make you feel trapped, “I…Are the rumors true?”
“Rumors?”
“Yes, the rumors of your pact.”
“Oh,” Your face drops and suddenly you become aware of the whispers in the room. “I didn’t realize people knew about that.”
“So it’s true then?”
“Yes.” You whisper, looking away from him. His piercing gaze makes you feel ashamed, your face burning hot. He tightened the grip on your wrist and you gasped at the sudden force, making you stare back into his eyes. They’re shaking just as much as he is, his panic clear.
“Why?” He sounded strained, “Why did you do it?”
“Simeon?” You asked, trying to understand why he was so upset. Didn’t Solomon say they were a good thing? You could protect yourself now in the Devildom and stop being afraid of what might happen. “Are you alright? What’s wrong?”
“Did he trick you? Did he blackmail you? Did he force you?” His questions were rapid, you could barely keep up with what he was asking you.
“No! I did it out of my own will.” You chuckled, the memory of basically forcing Mammon into the pact coming back. “If anything, I forced him .”
Simeon could feel the bile building up in his throat. Why would you, a beautiful and pure being, want to make a pact? Let alone a pack with such a repulsive demon. His grip on your wrist grew tighter causing you to wince at the pain. He gasped and let you go, suddenly becoming aware of his surroundings.
The classroom behind you was staring, all their eyes fixated and murmurs floating around. Mammon was on the edge of his seat, already preparing to come to your defense as if he hadn’t run away the last time.
“I apologize.” He kept his arms to his side, flexing his hands to not grab you again. “It’s just... hard to believe you’d enter into a pact with Mammon.”
“Yeah,” You take a step away from him and he noticed the hesitation in your voice, “It just happened I guess. Um, class is starting so you should probably go back.”
“Yes,” He said breathlessly, “I’m… I’m sorry.” He wanted to touch you and comfort you, but clearly, he’s crossed a line.
“I’ll, um… I’ll see you later Simeon.” You give him a flat smile and walk back to your seat, ignoring the wandering eyes.
He wanted to reach out and apologize on his knees if that made you forgive him, but the onlookers and Mammon’s piercing gaze stopped him. When Simeon saw how Mammon ran his hand up your back as you sat down, he almost lunged at the demon. He didn’t only because he didn’t want to cause a bigger scene, embarrassing you or causing you to resent him. Your rejection would’ve been the death of him.
The walk back was grotesque with demons looking at him and making snide remarks. It seems news truly did spread quickly through the Devildom. Its own wildfire. Luke tried to question him when he came back to the classroom as the bell rang.
“Later” was all he said and Luke didn’t ask again, but he still gave dirty looks to the snickering demons around them, something Simeon would have to reprimand later.
You didn’t talk to him during Hexes, brushing him off with a small smile and then taking a seat next to Asmo who blissfully began chattering away. If he could’ve, Simeon would’ve ripped his heart out of his chest and let you step all over it. He would’ve done anything to let you know that he wasn’t trying to hurt you, but rather protect you from those terrible demons you’ve been living with. Alas, he didn’t want to cross another line so he’d back off for the time being, but he’d be there when you needed him.
And if you didn’t, well, you would.
